Home description
Looking for a romantic getaway? Come and relax in the Tuscan hills. This is a recently renovated, semi-detached (just 2 other apartments in the building) ground floor 1 bedroom apartment, just opened to the public.
Situated 5 to 10 minutes walk from the river's beautiful waterfalls, with its invitingly clear waters. The apartment is just 20 to 25 minutes (walking) from the centre of Bagnone, where you can find amazingly good value bars, restaurants, and shops.
We came for a weeks holiday and fell in love with the area immediately. Before we knew it, we were back to spend 7 months renovating this 200yr old apartment.

The Tuscany region
Both Pisa and Florence, with their famous tourist attractions are a short drive, as are the stunning seaside resorts of Le Cinque Terre and Lerici (we recommend going underneath the castle to find the breathtaking hidden beach there).
Bagnone / Corlaga area
Close by, one can bathe in the river, an outdoor olympic size swimming pool in Villafranca or the natural hot springs of Equi Terme (where beauty treatments are also available). Visit spectacular castles in Fosdinovo; go shopping in Sarzana's famous outdoor antiques market; and for evening entertainment choose from Bagnone's theatre, outdoor cinema or bars.
A wealth of local sagras are to be found during the summer months, such as Bagnone's cake festival and the spectacular medieval festival in Filetto.
Skiing in Tuscany: The season generally starts mid-to-late December and lasts until late March. A number of ski resorts are less than an hours drive from the apartment, including: Cerreto, Prato Spilla, Zum Zeri and Abetone (which is slightly further).
As an example of prices, a Monday to Friday adult pass at Abetone's Val Di Luce resort costs just 65 euros and children's passes are only 42.50! Where other than the Appenines can you get on such good quality slopes for £6 to £10 a day?
One of Bagnone's bars serves fantastic hot chocolate, perfect for after a day on the slopes.
Walking, Biking and Hiking: Bagnone is surrounded by spectacular scenery, offering romantic strolls or serious trekking through chestnut forests on ancient charcoal burners’ paths, or beside crystal clear mountain streams, racing down from the Appenines.
Close by The National Park of the Alpi Apuane offers a vast network of trails for walking, cycling and horse riding. This region is also known as the ‘parco cento laghi’, (one hundred lakes), all accessible on foot from the ski-lift station at Prato Spila (40 minutes away).
Other activities: Tuscany is famously a haven for artists and enthusiastic amateurs. The nearest Golf course is located in the picturesque seaside village of Lerici (45 minutes away). There are a couple of places closer than the parco cento laghi with horse riding facilities.
How to get there
Low cost/ budget flights are always available from England, with Ryanair flying to 3 nearby airports, all under an hour away; Pisa (94.5k), Genoa (110.9k), and Parma (114.6k).
Milan and Bologna are around 2 hours drive from the apartment. Other companies such as BA also fly to the area.
A car is recommended so you can get the most out of Lunigiana, but the trains are a very inexpensive and reliable way to get around Italy. A taxi is available from Villafranca-Bagnone train station to the apartment for a just 15 Euro.

"Wonderful week in Tuscany - Philippa and Paul Date Submitted: September 20, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We had a wonderful week-long stay at the apartment in Bagnone/Corlaga. We went at the end of May and the weather was great, with the added bonus that there were few tourists around (though I get the impression the place is off the tourist track anyway).
We are keen walkers and the walking in the area is great - whether stepping straight out of the door of the flat or traveling to specific destinations to do round routes. (A car is needed in this area generally I feel.)
What was particularly nice were undertaking walks that took us to different Malaspina castles, these would appear unexpectedly as you turned a corner.
The flat has everything visitors need, including the world's best shower. The kitchen is well equipped and cosy. The neighbours were friendly and very helpful.
Bagnone has a great bar - opposite the war memorial/town hall - where the people are friendly and the free nibbles and cheap beer irresistible. A spaghetti with hare dish called 'a la caccia' (which I am told means 'in the style of the hunter') on offer in local restaurants is well worth a try.
Pontremoli is a short drive away and a good day out, as is a longer journey to the seriously beautiful city of Lucca.
In short I can't recommend the apartment highly enough. "
"Excellent holiday in Bagnone - Jules and Flora Date Submitted: September 12, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Dear Will and Rosie, We had a wonderful time in your beautiful Italian hideaway. Thankyou once again for all your help, all your suggerstions for what to do with our time were perfect.
We enjoyed the area so much we never got around to the day out in Florence we had spent so long planning! Maybe next time!
We have let all our friends know what a great time we had and I've no doubt we'll be back next year for more time by the waterfalls, in the bars and cafe's and romantic walks around the tuscan countryside.

"Wonderful Memories of Sunny Bagnone - Emma P Date Submitted: September 09, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Will and Rosies charming hideaway in the hills of Corlaga was the perfect place for a romantic getaway for young (ish) couples with a passion for beautiful scenery, plenty of walking and a traditional Italian experience.
The accommodation was bright and clean and walkable from the centre of beautiful Bagnone and the journey from Pisa was very easy and quick along the A12/A15.
Will was extremely helpful with instructions and suggestions and the neighbours were extremely friendly albeit they didnt speak any English and we spoke no Italian.
I would definitely recommend this property to friends and Bagnone and the river were beautiful (beat the beach any day!!!)
Thanks to Will and Rosie and best wishes to future visitors for great times and wonderful memories! "
