Castagni d'Oro B&B
B&B | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
This homely English family-run B&B is situated in Brandeglio, a gorgeous little village about 25 miles north of Lucca and sits high above the ancient thermal spa town of Bagni di Lucca in the mountainous Garfagnana National Park.
Outside, there is a sunny terrace with a table and chairs, ideal for al fresco dining or simply relaxing with a good book. There is also a level, lawned garden for sunbathing or enjoying a welcome cool drink under the shady trees, and with a wonderful view across to the mountains.
After a quiet and restful night, Louise and Adrian will serve you a generous continental breakfast and a bottomless coffee or tea pot in the dining room or maybe outside on the terrace.
Children are welcome and we have a cot, highchair and fold-out beds available. Children up to 9 years can stay for free with reduced rates for older children.
Well-behaved pets will be considered, although we do have 2 elderly cats.
Due to Italian law, smoking is only allowed outside the house.
Parking is in our own driveway and there is a secure garage for motorbikes, cycles and ski equipment.
We can provide packed lunches and other meals on request, or guests can bring their own food and use our plates and cutlery.
We strive to be as flexible as we can with guests' requirements, such as early or late arrivals and departures, keys to rooms and outside doors, and providing laundry and car-lift services. We speak some Italian and have lots of information regarding where to go and what to see.
Louise and Adrian hope to welcome you to their home very soon.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany must be the most well-known Region of Italy with famous cities like Florence, Sienna, Pisa and lesser-known gems such as Lucca and Volterra.
The most popular, and hence most expensive, area for living and holidaying is Chianti which lies between Sienna, Florence and Pisa. It is known as "Chiantishire" due to the large number of wealthy British ex-pats who have settled there, buying up huge palazzos and vineyards. The landscape is as seen in all calendars of Tuscany with soft rolling hills, olive groves, vast vineyards, hilltop towns and pencil-sharp cypress trees.
But Tuscany has many other faces, including high rugged mountains, flat sandy beaches and smaller, tree-clad mountains.
We are situated in the last type, in the small Pizzorne mountains just north of Lucca. We are in a tiny mountain-top village, so we have fantastic views all around of other small mountains and hills, deep river valleys and even the huge Apennine mountains towering in the distance. The largest ski resort in Tuscany, Abetone, is only 12 miles away. although it is considerably further to drive there around the winding roads and hairpin bends.
Bagni di Lucca
Bagni di Lucca is a pretty little town, nestling in the Garfagnana mountain region between the golden beaches of the Tyrrehnian coast and the Apennine mountain range, with ski resorts such as Abetone. Both are only an hour's easy drive from Bagni di Lucca.
The town is famous for its hot water thermal spas, which were first used by the early Romans and much later were developed by Napoleon Bonaparte's sister Elisa when she was governor here.
Bagni di Lucca has bars, trattorias and restaurants and plenty of places to buy ice cream. There are also shops, supermarkets and banks.
For leisure, in adddition to the obvious Spas, there are also public swimming pools, tennis courts and horse riding centres.
Biking of all sorts is popular: road bikes, mountain bikes and even extreme downhill which involves hurtling down the grass-covered ski slopes at terrifying speeds!
