Location description from owner

The England region

The Chapel is in Wing, a very small traditional conservation village within the glorious Rutland countryside situated between the county town of Oakham and the near by town of Uppingham, both being historic market towns. Each town and the villages which surround them are of much interest from an historical and architectural point of view as well as the many independent specialist shops, museums, art galleries, hostelries, garden nurseries, restaurants, cafes and tea rooms. In Wing you will find The Kings Arms Inn and Restaurant, less than a 3 minute walk from the door, which provides locally sourced food and ale alongside roaring open fires and a short walk to the edge of the village you’ll find yourself at Wing Hall where you can sample the delights of the Farm and Village Shop. On Sundays you can enjoy afternoon tea at the village hall and various attractions throughout the year.

The South Shore of Rutland Water is well within a 10 minute car journey with easy access to its various attractions such as sailing and water sports facilities, cycle tracks, bird-watching, fishing lodge, walking, climbing wall, reptile and bug zoo, crazy golf etc, etc.

The Rutland countryside’s highways and byways are ideal for cycling and walking alike and there is a multitude of footpaths and bridleways which crisscross the agricultural land between the towns, villages and hamlets.

For fishing, walking and cycling, the Eye Brook reservoir is a 13 minute drive and Wakerley Woods is 15 minutes away.

A 20 minute drive hop across the border into Lincolnshire will see you in Stamford with its nearby Burghley House famed for the Burghley Horse Trials, being the back drop to many period dramas, its gardens and its historical architectural interest. In another direction you can find yourself in Northamptonshire which has lovely countryside and many visitor attractions especially stately homes and gardens, the closest of which is historic Rockingham Castle a short 15-20 min drive from The Chapel.

There are various golf courses throughout the county from the historic Luffenham Heath Golf Club to the newer Rutland Water and Greetham Vally Golf Courses

Wing

Beautiful rural historic part of the English countryside. Traditionally a 'playground' for visiting royalty this ensured the preservation of the rural character of the smallest county. More recently predominantly farming , with lovely countryside perfect for walks, cycle rides and getting close to nature. R.Water is internationally famous for it's birdlife and the two beautiful nature reserves on it's shores.Ospreys are now well established here and return to the Water each year, but the number of species of birdlife now at R. Water is immense. Despite an increase in visitor numbers recently Rutland retains an Olde World charm and laid back character. Much in Little is the County motto and there is too much enjoy and explore.

Getting around

It's preferable to have a car as Wing is a small village with only a limited bus service. Many local Taxi firms available. It's possible to walk to Rutland Water, if you are fairly fit, but it is a climb to return as Wing is on a hill overlooking The Chater Valley. By car it's about 5 mins to the nearest point on Rutland Water or 20 mins or so to the opposite shore. Nearby Shaws Coaches run outings all over the UK. Trains run from Oakham, 10 mins away by road, or Kettering, which is about half an hour by road.

Interaction with guest

Interaction is at your discretion. The Security Key safe means you can arrive at your own convenience. There is no need to collect keys from another location or to meet us the owners. We are local which means any problems can be dealt with swiftly with minimum disruption to your holiday. We live nearby and are always happy to meet guests and to help with anything we can. However for those who are seeking seclusion this is not a problem as we do not visit The Chapel when it is occupied unless asked. A mobile number is also provided for emergencies, day or night. We are very happy to be on hand to assist you and are equally happy to respect your privacy during your stay if that is your preference.

“OK”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Would not write home about it. Nice location. Bedrooms are open to the whole rental. No privacy. Otherwise good but would not book again.

Owner's reply: Hi David, We are sorry you found The Chapel disappointing however, the property description does state quite clearly within the listing "..This property is open plan design – the only internal walls being around the Bathroom!.." and we feel that we have demonstrated this very clearly in the photographs provided. We are not sure what more we can do to make guests more aware of the internal arrangement of the property? Any suggestions would be welcome. We hope your next holiday let is more suited to your requirements.

“Relaxing Break”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2016

We had a lovely relaxing break in The Chapel. The property was spotlessly clean, well equipped and with excellent appliances. It was the ideal place to explore the beautiful county of Rutland.

Owner's reply: We are glad you enjoyed your time at The Chapel... Sue and Kerrie, our cleaning fairies, do a fantastic job for us and we will ensure that we pass on your comments.

“The Chapel Wing”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2016

We had a very good stay The Chapel was a very interesting and well equipped base to stay and explore the area. The owners were helpful when we had a problem and were able to give any advise we needed. With several folders on the amenities in the area which were very useful.

Owner's reply: We are glad you enjoyed your stay and found the information folders useful. Thank you.

“Amazing bolt hole in a super location”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

Everything about the chapel was brilliant. The warm welcome from the neighbors (hello Kev ), the beautiful and tranquil setting and the great village pub..amazing food and lovely staff. The farm shop at Wing Hall is superb, selling gorgeous local food, it made me wonder why I had brought supplies from home! One note of caution: we are reasonably fit but the hill on bikes from both directions between Wing and Rutland Water was an absolute lung buster...but that first pint once done will have been well earned

Owner's reply: We're are really glad you enjoyed your stay.. hopefully we'll see you again soon.
