Its Cognac country as well as having beautiful riverside locations and picture postcard castles. The attraction to this area is the accessibility to other regions and places of interest within this region. It is the perfect spot for cycling with cycle tracks in the region as well as low traffic volumes. Relax, rejunevate and discover the real France.

"Once again an absolute delight in rural France"
We decided to return to Chez Sophie after our shorter stay in 2013. The house still felt like home and I suspect it will continue to do so, considering the improvements and additions that the owners keep making to it. The newly installed pool was very, very welcome during our 2,5 weeks there. The temperature of the water varied from 20 degrees (pretty cold) to 26 degrees (comfortable). The garden could benefit from more comfortable chairs and an umbrella. The bedrooms could use more storage space. But having said that, we absolutely adore this house and the village it is in. Quietness, peace yet friendly French and amenities literally around the corner. Special appreciation for Sylvie and Mike. Thank you so much! Would recommend to anyone and will definitely return in the future.
We are glad you loved Chez Sophie again. You are right we will continue to improve the house and furnishings as it is always good to have a fresh approach. Hope we see you again. Regards Rose

"Perfect little French getaway"
Wonderful house in a French village with nearly all the necessary amenities. The house itself is beautifully decorated. The garden is a big plus; lots of privacy and space. We had very nice weather when we were there, so we practically lived outside. We suspect that when the weather is less good, that the house would be on the small side for anything over 4 people. We did miss a dishwasher, which we expected to be in a house so well appointed (towels, toiletries etc are included). Furthermore, the ceiling of the kitchen is very low. My husband is 1.94 m tall and really had to bend down all the time. This is not a problem anywhere else in the house, however. Big thumbs up to house manager Silvie who lives just around the corner. Villefagnan is a sleepy village with two bakers, two small supermarkets, a pub et cetera. Very convenient. Ruffec (larger) 10 minutes' drive. Very English oriented area.
Many thanks for your kind comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay, Chez Sophie
