Enjoy a prestigious lake view location in a nice apartment which is situated in the grounds of the historical Villa Capoana. The villa built in the year 1605 for the Duke of Mount Marciano in Fiumelatte was home to noble families for many generations until just recently, a part of it was reconstructed. In renovating, the construction company has ensured the preservation of the monumental fountain and garden area, which was a highlight of the historic villa and is now a beautiful showpiece of the exclusive residence.

This apartment is just 15m from the water’s edge and offers luxurious fixtures and fittings throughout. The modern features are 'state of the art' from the elegant floor tiles combined with under floor heating and the Swiss train station clock weighing scales and 'alligator' paint effect walls in the bathrooms!

The kitchen is fully equipped with ultra modern appliances including a professional food processor and orange juice maker, a large fridge/freezer with cold water & ice dispenser in the door, a wine fridge and featuring a clever minimalist central island, which conceals a working area and sink area beneath and can slide forward to create a breakfast bar. There is also a dining table which can seat from four - twelve people when extended!

The large living space is great for entertaining - with elegant black leather sofas and a very unusual reclining 'snake effect' lounger which can be adjusted into a variety of positions. The entertainment systems are lavish - there is a 60” LG TV and DVD player and a HD 3D TV, and the whole apartment has been fitted with surround sound - even outside on the large terrace!

An office area with WiFi, wireless Bluetooth provide further conveniences of home and the living area also has very large glass sliding doors which gives you a magnificent, panoramic view of the lake.

This apartment features two bedrooms, a bedroom with a double bed and 2 single beds and a bedroom with a double bed, conveniently with iPod charger and enjoying flexible accommodation if connected by (lockable) internal doors to another Property Ref. 140. These two stunning apartments can be rented together to create a unique 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom luxury complex sleeping up to groups of 12.

Walking under a romantic wisteria covered archway to the back entrance of the property there are custom made outdoors steel drawers for firewood storage and also stairs lead down from the gate to the private garage with automatic remote control doors. The property is accessed by elevator directly onto the terrace!

The apartment is located in the town of Fiumelatte, just 1km from the beautiful town of Varenna on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' - Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna.

Varenna is home to Italy's shortest river, the Fiumelatte. Only 250 meters long, it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rock face and crashes into the lake from the end of March to the end of October each year. And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his ‘Codice Atlantico’ notebook.

Two famed villas to visit nearby are Villa Cipressi with its terraced gardens cascading down to the shores & Villa Monastero, a true showcase on Lake Como. With the mild climate & abundant sunshine & warmth right into the evening; olive & cypress trees abound and the local area is a paradise for those wanting to relax and unwind during their stay.

Skiing in the area is bountiful; resorts such as Madesimo, only 1.15hr north of Colico and the local ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 minutes away.We offer a range of extra facilities, which are available for hire through our office 'Happy.Rentals' in Menaggio: Cot Hire - EU 20 per stay, High Chair - EU 15 per stay, Push Chair - EU 25 per stay, Camp Bed – EU 85 per stay, Wi-Fi - EU 35 per stay. Please note that signal and connectivity is not guaranteed and may depend on the strength of the signal in your rental property.

Response from the manager
I always am concerned when a guest has had less than a positive experience in one of the most spectacular apartments on Lake Como. I try to learn from their experiences and improve upon what I think is the perfect rental apartment based upon my 5,000 plus hotel stays I have had as a Tour Manager both in Europe and in North America. I take great exception when a reviewer gives the wrong impression to future guests, as is indeed the case in this review. Della Fontana Penthouse and Loft dates back to 1605, and has been completely redone 10 years ago by a local builder and overseen by a famous Civil Engineer who happens to live next door. His home, 200 meters away, is featured in the John Legend Video “ALL OF ME”. There is nothing that this Engineer/Architect does that is “AVERAGE”…The pictures of my apartment PROVE that there is NOTHING average in my penthouse….The guests impressions that they stayed in an average apartment are clearly not true. The positives you listed about the apartment, along with the photos on at least 12 websites and on the recently filmed Italian House Hunting Show, “Non si Scorda Mai”, prove that it is anything BUT average. My Apartment was selected by the Mayor of Varenna to represent the Village as a classic apartment on the outside, but with every conceivable MOD COM on the inside. It is, by far, the nicest apartment in the best village on Lake Como. Varenna is seen 25+ times a day on CNN for their travel segments, and along with Bellagio, is used by the Italian Government when promoting the country…To think that an apartment of this stature, worth over a million euros, is available for rent, and then is referred to as “AVERAGE”, Is mean spirited, and untrue. However, the negatives you listed need to be addressed, one by one: 1. The apartment was clean on arrival, you would have been the first to call had it not been…three sets of cleaners clean the apartment after each guest leaves, and specific to your stay I happened to be in the apartment below you, and it was immaculate on your arrival, including the bathrooms…however your comment about the bedroom Jacuzzi, made for two, and just perfect for couples on a honeymoon which we get often, can produce a discharge when guests do not run water after the bathtub drains. I have updated the booklet to reference this, and have instructed the maids to use the sanitation feature of the spa during each cleaning of the apartment…this issue will never happen again. 2. There is the option to rent the entire two floors, you chose to rent an apartment. In every hotel in the world, with rare exceptions, you have guests on either side of your room…in this case you have another apartment on just ONE side, and that apartment is separated by TWO walls and a double door with acoustical panels…further…your apartment was exclusive to the top floor, accessible only by a private keyed elevator and a double gated rear garden…your Jacuzzi on the terrace has its cover lifted in a way where it is completely private and blocked from viewers above…the window that is open to illuminate the stairs in fact is blocked by the stairs, you see out, no one can see in…and by the way, there are no guests or tenants in the two apartments behind. The construction workers are a rare presence and are installing a pool in the complex…this apartment is ULTRA PRIVATE and from a security standpoint, can host guests with security details in supreme security. 3. Towels…it is NOT a hotel…this issue is being reviewed, but in rental properties it is assumed that guests will arrive with groceries, toiletries, and beach towels if near the sea, or in this case, a Lake Resort…but extra towels seems something that a rental agency would provide on request. 4. Layout is as it is…you can see that the furniture, perhaps you think is bachelor pad, but not many bachelors buy ROCHE BOBOIS 13,000 EURO SOFAS AND 700 EURO CROCODILE DINING CHAIRS…In FACT the level of furnishings is beyond what one would find in any hotel…I live in hotels, and have used that experience to provide five different types of pillows, all Memo Foam Mattresses in all four of the beds. Every conceivable toiletry, from shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, talcum powder, moisturizer, make up pads, ear buds, FIRST AID kits, Kleenex, etc.,etc.…in fact from the kitchen to the bathrooms, NO RENTAL PROPERTY provides the amenities I give. Read the other guests comments…your low marks are again MEAN SPIRITED and FALSE INFORMATION. 5. There are 29 lights in the living room…you can make it extremely romantic if you use your imagination…I provide LED candles and the real thing, throughout the apartment…but, you had a point with the stark white LED overheads…so I changed them to warm lights throughout the upstairs, making for a less bright lighting effect…I appreciate, and further guests will appreciate the difference. It was too harsh the lighting upstairs. In summation, I think your observations included some improvements to future guests stays…however your mean spirited and false statements do no one any good, and your ratings of the apartment differ from the 100’s of guests we have hosted in DELLA FONTANA PENTHOUSE and LOFT over the last eight years. With its two Jacuzzis and super comfortable beds perched above the most romantic lake in the world, Della Fontana Penthouse and LOFT is the perfect Romantic spot, and yes perhaps James Bond would feel comfortable there on his honeymoon.
