Hello, and a warm welcome to The Bay Tree Cottage, a stylish and comfortable holiday home for two right on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
Very substantial discounts are available on the rentals shown on TripAdvisor for short breaks of four, five or six nights. To check the discounted rates make a booking request and the owner will offer you a much more attractive price.
One of the most beautiful stretches of the South Downs Way can be reached by footpath from the doorstep, but if you don’t fancy a climb there are roads to the top too. Either way, don’t miss the views. On a clear day you can see across The Solent to the Isle of Wight, and in the opposite direction, across to the North Downs.
The cottage was originally built as a workshop and has recently been converted into spacious self-catering accommodation. Light from west facing windows floods the vaulted living space. The windows look over a private terrace to a shared garden (pick your own herbs) and stunning sunsets. The bedroom with king-size sleigh bed has a generous en suite shower room.
Bay Tree Cottage is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists and from which to enjoy the county’s internationally famous sporting and cultural highlights – Goodwood’s motorsport and horseracing events; summer arts festivals in nearby Arundel, Petworth and Chichester; and closer to home, the tudor splendour of Parham House. Amberley Working Museum, South Down Gliding Club, Wiston Steam Rally, and the RSPB’s Pulborough Brooks reserve are all nearby and there is a growing choice of local vineyards to check out.
There are English/European, Thai, Indian, and Chinese restaurants in easy walking distance of the cottage in the centre of Storrington village, plus a hotel, several pubs, a fish and chipper, and a choice of takeaways. A little further afield there are traditional country pubs and restaurants that serve notably good food. And when you don't fancy either going out or cooking for yourself, The Bay Tree Cottage offers a third choice - to be served at your own table by an award winning food writer who happens to be the owner. Choose from a seasonal dinner menu, or if you are pushing out the boat, order a swish hamper for Goodwood, or Glyndebourne, or just for fun.
Brighton, Chichester and Gatwick Airport are less than an hour away by car, and Heathrow Airport takes about ninety minutes. There are trains to London, Portsmouth and Southampton from Pulborough Station which is ten minutes away.
The owner has lived here in Sussex for nearly thirty years and loves the ‘whale-backed downs’ as Kipling described them, the glorious walks, the chalk hill flora and fauna, the area’s history, its geography and its people, and looks forward to sharing them with you.

“A real home from home”
A beautiful cottage, cosy but deceptively spacious and well equipped, Bay Tree Cottage became our home from home whilst we waited for our house sale to go through. set in lovely surroundings with super walks. Shona is a super host, friendly and very accommodating. Highly recommended!

“Wonderful self catering cottage”
We had been travelling through Europe and the UK for two months staying at seventeen different properties and Bay Tree cottage was by far the best of all. The accommodation is very clean and fully equipped. The owner, Shona is also able to provide dinners that she cooks herself. We can recommend the lamb. The cottage is close to a pub that serves meals and Sunday roasts and is not far from the village that has a Waitrose supermarket amongst other shops. Storrington is a good base for day trips to other areas. We would definitely return to Bay Tree Cottage if we returned to England.
