Location description from owner

The England region

Steyning is one the the prettiest Sussex towns. It has more or less everything - a fine high street, historic buildings, good shops and lovely countryside nearby.

Steyning is one of the few places where there seem to be more independent retailers than high street chains.

Nearby attractions include the gorgeous village of Bramber, with its ruined castle and St Mary's House and Gardens and the river. The South Downs Way passes just to the south of Steyning at Botolphs, climbing towards some wonderful countryside around the Steyning Bowl.

Steyning

Steyning is pretty well preserved. There are still plenty of old buildings in Steyning including Tudor style half timbered houses and some smart Georgian town houses too.

Sir Georges Place is a row of victorian tannery workers cottages and Mill cottage is located through an archway and down a twitten/path which takes you over a mill stream and across to Mouse Lane.

Mill cottage is a mid-terraced georgian cottage with low ceilings and beams oozing character and charm. With the backdrop of the surrounding cottage gardens and the ever present hum of the mill stream it is the perfect location for a relaxing weekend away , mid-week short break or as a base to explore the beautiful South downs and sussex coast.

House rules

The reason I say unsuitable for children is due to the stairs and the close proximity to the mill stream. I would however accept babies and/or children over 6 years upon request.
Also I would advise that due to the quirky nature and age of the cottage it may not be suitable for tall people and the elderly as the ceiling heights and stairs are quite low/high and difficult to negotiate. Please speak to the owner if you are unsure and require further information.

“Beautiful Cottage set in the pretty village of Steyning”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2016

Beautiful comfortable cottage. We had a great time exploring the area with easy access to the South Down walks. The village was amazing to walk around as there was so much to look at regarding the unique properties. We will let all our friends know about the cottage.

“Cosy cottage in excellent location”

Reviewed 21 Feb 2016

We stayed at Mill Cottage with our little dog and had a lovely time. The weather was disappointing to begin with but the cottage was warm and cosy. The cottage was spotless clean, the kitchen well equipped and the bathroom was fabulous. We parked the car outside the cottage at the start of our stay and did not use it at all after that as we walked every where and caught the bus for visits to Worthing and Brighton. Steyning is a lovely little town with lots of interesting and quaint little shops. The Star Inn close to the cottage is well worth a visit. Very welcoming, with an open fire and good food.

“A charming cottage”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2015

Mill Cottage is perfectly located off the main high street and close to all the amenities and nearby walks. The decor is light and bright and is extremely clean, a very comfy bed and all kitchen paraphernalia is supplied. We had the most wonderful and relaxing stay and cannot fault anything about the accommodation – genuinely a first class place to stay! We will definitely be back and would highly recommend Mill Cottage.

“Excellent rural cottage”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2015

Lovely cottage with beautiful decor and a great power shower. Tucked away in a quiet spot very relaxing for laid back weekend. There're number of walks and museums to see in the surrounding areas. Also can go to Brighton if you want to go shopping in the famous winding Lanes. Steyning is a place I will come to agin and recommended for a couple or solo holiday . Locals are very helpful and friendly

“Excellent cottage for a couple”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2015

Mill Cottage was a beautiful little cottage. Very clean with good facilities. a conformable living room, great bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. I would highly recommend this cottage to a couple that would like to stay in the area. The owners left tea and coffee and even bought some milk so that we could have a drink when we arrived

“Fantastic High End Cottage”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2014
