Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

The Midi-Pyrénées is situated in the heart of South West France. The region is vast and therefore extremely varied. To the west, the landscape is undulating with vast fields of yellow sunflowers and red poppies in spring and early summer. Further to the east lie deep gorges carved out millions of years ago, hilltop castles and picturesque walled villages known locally as bastides such as Cordes-sur-Ciel, Najac and Villefranche de Rouergue, built on a grid of streets around a central square, a reminder of the turbulent history: English invasions, Cathar struggles, the religious wars and Albigensian crusades

The castle itself was sacked by Simon de Montfort in 1212 and changed hands many times between the English and French during the 100 years war. The Viaur river marked a strategic position and denoted the frontier of English occupation.

Saint Martin Laguepie

Laguepie is steeped in history, the 11th century chateau stands high above the village and is the majestic focal point as you arrive at your destination. The area is surrounded by many more beautiful villages within easy travelling distance by car, including Najac, Cordes-sur-Ciel and St Antonin de Noble Val to name a few.

For lovers of the outdoors there are numerous sporting activities available close by including swimming, kayaking, tennis, horse riding, walking, cycling, climbing and fishing. Shops and restaurants are a short walk down to the village.

We have several acres of private oak woodland with pathways to enjoy. We have two mountain bikes which are free to use.

Here are some guest reviews:

"The weather has been perfect and we have pretty much lived in the garden. We've really appreciated the tranquility of the river, the opportunity to swim and boat (save some energy for the swim back upstream to the boathouse) and a pool deep enough to dive into.
It is practically perfect. A piano and left-handed guitar were all that were missing.
I'd strongly recommend it and would like to return."

"What a wonderful place! The children were thrilled to be staying in the ruins of an ancient castle but when they saw the swimming pool, hot tub in a turret, ping pong, badminton, trampoline, widescreen TV with DVD, PC etc, they were thrilled even more-and we're gutted to leave. This is a gem of a location and a delightful house. We wish you well with your venture and recommend you highly.
Places we visited.
Cap de Couverte-Great value fun family day.
Agrip Adventure Park-High rope courses. Exhausting for forty something's. Najac and Cordes Sur Ciel are good for cool evening wanders
Viaduct de Millau-Don't miss it.
Roquefort caves and cheese tasting-much enjoyed.
The children have written a large Thankyou!-It was great."
Ryk James and family.

"A truly wonderful holiday. Delightful setting. Very well thought through. House and the garden is truly special.
One of the best holidays we've had for a long time. Many thanks."

Below the castle is a riverside boat house with a large garden which leads to the Viaur river which guests are free to use . It offers tables and chairs for picnics and barbeques.

“Wonderful!”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2013

This is such a lovely house to stay in. The garden is enclosed in the old castle keep, the pool is clean and big, there is table tennis, a hobbit house, badminton, hot tub - all in your back garden and over looked by the castle ruins that you are semi detached with. It is ideal for children as there is so much to do in the garden. The house is really well kitted out, as it is lived in, on arrival we even had wine chilling in the fridge and pasta, and enough equipment to bake cakes with the little ones. The village is tranquil and has the most amazing restaurant - Les deux riviere - at around 80 euro for a meal for 2 including wine. A perfect place to unwind. The train from the airport was 1 hour 15 and easy, if you don't want to hire a car. The manager will pick you up from the train station.

“Excellent property with central position.”

Our stay at the Chateau was truly memorable. The house was immaculately clean and well maintained. The house and gardens are very spacious so there was plenty of room for the 7 persons staying. The town where the chateau is located, is central to many interesting short drives (and some longer ones). All in all we had an excellent week.
