“Superb!”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2015

We had a truly perfect stay at La Maison Breuil. Pippa and her husband were fantastic to deal with before, during and after our stay. The house and pool were fantastic and well equipped. Most importantly for the teenage the girls the Wi-Fi was excellent! The local amenities are ideal - bakery 5 minutes walk and Sarlat centre only 10 minutes walk. We could not have picked a better place for our holiday! We very much hope to return soon!

“Beautiful house, perfect for a family holiday”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2015

We stayed in 'La Maison Breuil' for a week at the end of July. We had never been to the region before and the location of the house gave us the perfect combination of quiet accommodation but with the option to walk into nearby Sarlat for dinner when we wanted. The house itself is gorgeous, the renovations that have gone into the property have been carefully thought through resulting in a property that has kept it's character but that still manages to include everything you need for modern life (dishwasher/washing machine, tv/dvd and of course wifi which it seems impossible to live without now!). We all really loved our stay here the rooms were all beautifully clean with freshly laundered, comfortable cotton sheets and we all slept very well. The large, sheltered, outside table meant that we were able to eat every meal outside and the kitchen was perfectly equipped. We also had a couple of barbecues. The layout of the outside area is also well done - the garden slopes up to the pool which is surrounded by decking which is lovely for lounging around in the sun. We all had a fabulous time splashing around in the pool. The table on the front terrace is also perfect to sit at on warm summer's evening looking out onto the petanque court. The owner is lovely and very pleasant to deal with - which I know should be a given but oftentimes it is not! For example within the house manual doesn't just provide basic info on how to make sure you don't break anything it also contains information on the local area, where to find doctors, pharmacies etc, restaurant recommendation which shows that they are keen to go the extra mile to ensure their guests enjoy their stay and feel welcome. We would all recommend Maison Breuil, in fact we are thinking of going back ourselves! The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area and having Sarlat on the doorstep is great when you cannot be bothered cooking but also do not want to drive for miles. We felt like we were in a home from home for the week, where we could truly relax, and that for me was the best thing about our stay.

“A beautiful townhouse in a fantastic location”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2014

What a beautiful place La Maison Breuil is. The location is great, just a short walk to the centre of Sarlat and with excellent private parking facilities. The villa inside is immaculate with everything you could need including a modern dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer. The pool area was great to relax in with plenty of outdoor lighting to set the mood, Paula was great with clear, timely communications and no surprises - really friendly and helpful. We used the villa to explore the Perigord Noir area and would recommend Chateau de Beynac, Gardens of Marqueyssac and Gabarres Norbert. The area surpassed our expectations with it's landscape, attractions and beautiful villages. We will definitely go back - highly recommended.

“French character house, relaxed atmosphere and ambience and excellent location in a great area for a welcome break”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2013

The property has been renovated to that of a typical French house situated in Sarlat. It was homely and had a relaxed, non stuffy atmosphere and the pool was very welcoming in the hot days. The town centre was only a few minutes walk away, ideal for walking into and for shopping. The petanque court across the road was good both for exercising the dog but also for polishing up our boules skills. The beds were comfortable and the linen and towels good quality. The welcome pack was a pleasant surprise. All in all a good location in an historic area for a relaxing holiday for the family.

“A comfortable pied a terre in a good location!”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

We booked the Maison du Brieul as we know the area fairly well but wanted somewhere to stay that didn't always require us to get in the car to get to a restaurant or could walk to a bakery each morning. The other requirement was a pool. The cottage ticked all our boxes, 5 minutes walk into Sarlat, and was very comfortably furnished, lovely comfortable beds and right in the centre of the action in the Perigord Noir. Close to castles , caves, canoeing and everything else you may need. Thank you Paula for a lovely week and professional service, we hope to be back!

“Perfect vacation rental”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2013

We stayed at La Maison Breuil for a week in June. The house is beautiful and fully equipped with everything you might need. There is a large Carrefour supermarket in Sarlat where we bought everything that we needed. We drove to the different villages during the day- most within 10 minutes drive. We also went canoeing down the Dordogne for 3 hours. In the evenings we could walk to town to have dinner in one of the many lovely restaurants. Our teenage boys enjoyed the Dordogne area very much with all the activities available and also enjoyed the pool at the property. The free wi-fi was also great to keep them busy on their iPods. I can recommend this property without any reservations. The house is comfortable and well decorated for a family of four. The booking process was easy and I contacted Paula with a few other questions that she helped me with. We will definitely try to return to this house and the Dordogne region in the future.

“An elegant house in a beautiful town.”

“A perfect base from which to explore Sarlat and the Dordogne”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

From 22 March to 5 April 2013 we had a very enjoyable stay at Maison Breuil in Sarlat-de-Canéda. Our party consisted of two middle-aged couples, and a daughter who joined us for the first week. The house accommodated us comfortably. Sleeping and bathroom appointments were clean and fresh. The linen and towels were of good quality. Even the attic bedroom was adequately comfortable for two with a full bathroom across the landing (mind your head on the door lintels!). The sitting room with television is pleasant, but this we hardly used, preferring the cosy kitchen with its round dining table, chairs and music centre. The kitchen has everything one could reasonably need; much is new, nothing is lacking and all is clean and in good working order. The garden is attractive and clearly well-tended. Unfortunately, on account of the weather (not unusual for this time of year, the temperature was mostly 6 – 16°C and the sky overcast), we could make only little use of the patio and terrace (which would be a boon on sunny days). The swimming pool was covered (none of us would have ventured to swim), but would be welcome in hot weather (apparently abundant in summer). All in all the property was everything we had hoped it would be. We much appreciated the welcome basket on our arrival as well as the folder with helpful information, including recipes typical of the area and brochures. We also found the free Wi-Fi and landline very convenient. The immediate surroundings are semi-suburban, but tranquil and with a rural atmosphere. The walk into the medieval town, by at least four different pretty routes, is about 800m (about 10 minutes' comfortable walk). We never missed a market day and regularly bought fresh bread from the nearby boulangerie. Sarlat itself is delightful; the architecture is arresting and best seen in the early morning and evening, The surrounding countryside and all the neighbouring towns are charming. Having a car is a great advantage. About the host and hostess, and management: the property changed hands while we were making arrangements for our stay. The new proprietors, Paula and Stephen, have taken over seamlessly and have in fact effected many improvements, among them substantial refurbishing. In our e-mail contact with them they were unfailingly prompt and very cordial. In Sarlat they and manager Steve were in all ways efficient and helpful. (We secretly wish they would open other guest houses elsewhere for us to stay at!) We had a wonderful holiday.

Dear Ingrid, Jan & Family It was so kind of you to invite us to meet you for pre dinner drinks on your last evening. We thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know you all, you were very gracious hosts and your feedback was very much appreciated. Were delighted you enjoyed your stay at La Maison Breuil and had such a wonderful time in Sarlat (especially the fun you had with the market traders). Once again Thank you for your review. Best Wishes Paula & Stephen.

“Lovely house in great location”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2013

The location of this house is superb, within easy walking distance of the town for anyone. The house is beautifully presented with everything you need for a great stay. The bedding was fantastic quality and we slept very well. The Ipod in its docking station is a very nice touch and has a playlist for all ages. One thing we took advantage of more than anything was the Free Wifi and landline calls home. The unexpected welcome pack was very much appreciated as we arrived later than expected, and the glass of wine with fresh bread and cheese went down a treat. Although the pool was not open, we did use that area along with the patios with super outside dining table for al fresco evenings, well wrapped agains the winter chill.

“Fantastic house only a short walk from the action”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2013

We found the property to be exactly as advertised on the website, and the new owners of the property (Paula and Stephen) to be extremely helpful. The house is less than a 10 minute walk from all of the action in the middle of Sarlat. The information packs (brochures etc) and welcome basket when we arrived were a nice touch - and the free Wi-Fi was perfect for keeping in touch with relatives back in Australia. The beds were very comforatble and the linen brand new. This house is a great place to base yourself in Sarlat!
