Buqa is situated in the Heart of Samoens Village. It stands over looking the village with great panoramic views. Its well situated so you get the best of both worlds. The privacy whilst enjoying the village vibe. There is ample secure private parking at Buqa.

The Grand Massif region

Samoens is a summer and winter Mountains and Lakes resort that makes a significant part of the Grand Massif plains in the Haute-Savoie region of France. Regarded as a romantic resort - as displayed by ‘love hearts’ dotted around the village - Samoens has remained relatively undiscovered, unspoilt, cultured, charming and is a truly picturesque village. Sat at 800m, it is considered an ideal family holiday destination and a get-away for those who have a passion for the outdoors.

Where is it?

At the foot of the imposing Criou Mountains and a short step from Fer a Cheval, Samoens is sat proudly in the heart of Giffre Valley, 20 minutes drive from Le Cluses, 55km from Geneva, 30 minutes drive from Portes du Soleil and 40 minutes from mention a few!

Natural Beauty and History...

Samoens is a far cry from a concrete jungle that often comes hand in hand with a typical all year round alpine resort. Samoens has been awarded a coveted Coq d’Or for being one of the prettiest villages in France. Furthermore, it boasts an art-cultural authenticity; once a stone cutting centre, Samoens has preserved its historical inheritance, being the only French ski resort to be listed as a Monument Historique. With its rustic, characteristic focal points dotted around Samoens, such as the Village Church, medieval water fountain in the square and The Botanical Garden at the heart, Samoens has kept ‘true to self’. It has maintained its ancestral rural, traditional feel. With the hubbub of the Wednesday market that brings this village to life, you’d agree that Samoens is much more than a winter ski resort, it is a real community, all year round.

Samoens excellent snow record in the winter months, and easily accessible at 1600m, Samoens is part of the Grand Massif, linked to a network of pistes, allowing extensive skiing. It is also a quick -and free- shuttle bus ride away from surrounding ski resorts such as Flaine, Le Morillon, Le Carroz and Sixt, opening you up to 265km of vast piste plains, which is about as far as the eye can see... and much, much more.

In Summer, Samoens makes a significant part of the Mountain Biking culture, with 600km of track to venture. Not only that, but Tour de France have been known to cycle through certain parts of Samoens. With the array of activities at hand and the beautiful scenery at its doorstep, this resort allows you to do as much, or as little as you like.

There is plenty to see and do in and around Samoens, mostly within leisurely walking distance.

Centre of Samoens

The centre focal piece of the village is the Jaysinia alpine botanical garden, created in 1906, and boasting over 8000 varieties of alpine flora, as well as waterfalls, castle ruins from XII century and a chapel from XVIII century. Buqa is sat in perfect balcony view of this beautiful 3.5 acre garden.

The square in the heart of the village has an Ice Skating rink, which converts into an outdoor nightclub - great fun, especially on New Year’s Eve!

Samoens and its surrounding area has all the amenities that cater for the residents and visitors. There is a good choice of bars, cafes, restaurants as well as pharmacies, over 40 clothes, trinkets, crafts and souvenir shops, supermarkets, ski/bike equipment and hire shops, bakeries, chocolatiers... and a tourist information office to help you find all of the above!

There is a variety of banks and ATM machines in the town. Samoens, like the rest if France, operates in Euros. For your convenience, all the shops, bars and restaurants accept major credit cards.

Local Market

Every Wednesday, there is a market, which sells local fresh produce of the Haute-Savoie, such as cheeses, (Raclette and Tartiflette are the local specialities), sausages and wines, as well as local crafts- all reasonably priced.

There is also a Dairy factory and gallery Frutiere de Samoens for those with a real appreciation of the cheese making process.

You will find a living farm museum Le Clos Parchet in the village, for those among us who want to explore the history of the Upper Giffre Valley.

Recreation and Relaxation

To relax indoors, Criou cinema is in the centre of Samoens and it offers 2 to 3 shows a day during the season.

There are many beauticians dotted around the village, for relaxation, pampering spas and complementary therapies such as Reflexology and Indian head massage. One therapist who comes recommended is Claire. She is located next to the church in the square.

t: +33 (0) 672 62 24 64

The Sports Centre is one of the newest additions to the village. It has an indoor climbing wall, indoor tennis and squash courts, and Parc d’Activities for real family fun.

There are local guides available all year long (it is worth noting that they are prominently French speaking only)

Places nearby to visit:

Flaine is a vaste open ‘snow bowl’, and at 1600m it is renowned for excellent snow conditions and sunny days. This purpose built ski resort features the first 8-seater high speed chairlift Les Grands Van, and is ideal for a family skiing holiday.

Flaine is also considered a good centre for summer walking, past deep ravines, rocks and fissures. Guides available through Flaine tourist office.

Sixt fer a cheval boast a cascade of waterfalls through high mountains and forests, as well as a huge glacial amphitheatre, Cirque fer a cheval. This resort provides a special day out to enjoy the scenery and tranquillity of the mountains.

Les Carroz is a traditional alpine village, perched on a plateau at 1140m. Its little cafes and pavement of quirky shops compliment the wholesome feel of the Grand Massif. Don’t be fooled. It has much to offer in both seasons. For Mountain Bikers there is a permanent down hill track that’s 4.5km and 800m down!

Morillon mirrors its neighbouring resorts. It has a 16th century church at its heart and is very popular among the French tourists. It also features a handiski school, specialised in handicap ski. In summer, Morillon is great for mountain bikers. In addition, it boasts Lac Blue recreational park, situated in the centre. Activities on offer include fishing, tennis, volleyball, horse-riding, mini-golf and petanque.

Less than 1 hour’s drive away from Samoens, Chamonix is considered the ultimate paradise experience for all snow and bike enthusiasts, and those looking for a alpine adventure. The cherry on the cake is the backdrop of Mont Blanc - the highest mountain in Europe - with its majestic glaciers; which can be viewed perfectly from Aiguille du Midi.

The variety of terrain on offer for snow riders of all ages, abilities and tastes make it deservingly the ski capital of the French Alps in the winter months. Such activities include skiing, on and off piste, snowboarding, speedriding, heli-skiing, shoe-snowing and cross country.

The summer season in Chamonix offers a multitude of sporting activities such as hiking over 350km marked trails, mountaineering, rock climbing, mountain biking across 40km of tracks, paragliding, 18 hole golf and numerous water activities.

Chamonix town is also popular for being vibrant and diverse. It offers a great nightlife, a good choice of bars and nightclubs with amazing House DJ’s, as well as plenty of shops, attractive boutiques, museums and café's adorning the streets to appeal to all holidaymakers.

"Well and truly Buqafied! Great location + great accommodation = great holiday"

Team Buqa work hard to make your stay at Apartment Buqa special - and it pays off. Comfortable, homely, well equipped (really well equipped from the tech to the kitchen to the games/books to the furnishings, etc!), and all within a stones throw of the centre of Samoens. We can see why they chose this place as their holiday home, and are grateful they have shared it with us - everyone should go on holiday to Buqa!

Having Buqafied guests is what makes us smile. Looking forward to seeing you again :) Thanks so much for the great comments.

Our family had a fantastic time at Apartment Buqa at the end of January. There was ample room for the 5 of us, in fact we could easily have taken a few more. The apartment is very, very well equipped, with WiFi and smart TVs in all of the rooms and under floor heating. The place was immaculate when we arrived and the owner and manager went out of there way to ensure that everything was prepared for our stay. The owner takes a very keen interest to ensure that you have a great time, which is extremely comforting. The apartment is located a short walk from the centre of the village, up quite a steep hill. Not a problem in normal footwear, but you'd not want to do it in ski boots. We hired a car so this was not an issue. Don't be concerned, a car is not necessary when staying here, it just suited our requirements to visit other resorts as well as Samoens. If you get heavy snow, which we did, you'll need snow chains to get back up the hill. We did not take the chains off for 3 days! We were very happy with our choice of Buqa for our holiday and would have no hesitation in returning. I can't wait to go back.

Buqafied :)

"Beautiful house in a stunning French town"

We stayed at Buqa for a week over new year week It is a beautiful house and comfortably housed our 2 families, 4 adults and 4 kids It is very close to the charming traditional village of samoens and it is a five minute walk down the hill. There is a ski bus to take you to the slopes but we preferred to walk each day as it is not too far and stretches the legs before your ski Buqa has everything you need and we were very impressed with the boxee system where there was over 200 films we could watch on the tv. The log fire and cosy living area makes it hard for you to want to go out in the evening, but we did eat at le serac New Year's Eve which was really good and very reasonable. The kids also loved the ps3 den in the attic. There is a big field in front of Buqa and the kids spent hours playing snowballs and sledging there Samoens is beautiful and we were really lucky to get a load of snow and blue skies. A perfect week. The grand massif is a very picturesque ski area and is one if the best we have visited Elan the owner and Gilles the property manager in samoens were fantastic right from when we booked. They answered every question and really gave us a five star service. They booked our restaurants and offered us transport whenever we needed it. Thanks for a wonderful holiday

HNY Victoria.. It's such a pleasure to read the review, and most important to us that you left Buqafied! Please keep in touch and thank you for your trust! Team Buqa

"Great location"

Buqa was a great place to stay with all the comforts of home in a beautiful location. Unfortunately lacking in snow this year but still managed a bit of skiing at Avoriaz as well as the ice quads in Flaine. Would very much like to go back again with the family at a time when the snow has already fallen as Samoens is a lovely village and has a bit more character than some of the larger ski resorts. Many thanks to Élan and Gilles for making our stay such an enjoyable one !!! Jim & family.

Jim, thanks for the comments. The snow was late this year, the snow gods were still snoozing. Luckily they woke up and made up in time for Christmas. Thanks for the great review and happy to see you're Buqafied! All the best for 2015 and beyond! Team Buqa

"Top notch place to stay with all mod cons and tech for the kids..."

Very tastefully furnished and well stocked apartment - with everything you need for a great time which is 2-3 mins walk to the centre of the village. Samoens is a lovely village ideally situated - with lots of places to eat and drink, a local market and fresh food - good large supermarket 5 mins away. We rented the apartment for a week - which wasn't really long enough for us to do all we wanted to do - weather was great with lots of sun during the day and when it rained - it rained overnight We did lots of cycling, climbing (Via Ferrata ) and rafting as well as lots and lots of hiking up into the mountains - literally right on the doorstep - this is truly a beautiful part of the Alps with so much on offer. If you are feeling lazy you can always take the lifts up and walk down..! We would highly recommend to anyone who loves all the modern creature comforts and wants to be able to access the great outdoors right on your doorstep.

"Beautiful, clean and modern Chalet in a stunning location"

The apartment was exactly as promised, spotlessly clean, and every modern appliance you could ever need. It wasn't lacking anything. We met the local contact person who was extremely helpful and friendly. The customer service proved by Elan was exceptional both in the lead up to the stay and our time there. He was extremely prompt with answering all our questions and seemed to genuinely care that we had everything we needed and that we had a good holiday. Well done Team Buqa, what a perfect stay.

Buqafied :) It's comments like this that makes proud of the work we do. Thanks again Debbie. Team buqa

"Fantastically chilled holiday in the most beautiful location."

Apartment Buqa is the perfect place to get away from it all. The views from the balcony are simply breathtaking- paragliders, waterfalls and clouds. There is plenty to see and do in Samoens even off season. The botanical gardens are truly stunning and are the perfect place to take in all the stunning scenery. Apartment buqa is fully equipped to cater for the odd rainy day too- films, music, games and books all to be enjoyed beside the roaring log fire for when the temperature drops. So all in all a truly chilled out and buqafied holiday!!

Buqafied ! Thanks for choosing Buqa :)

"A perfect stay in Buqa"

The Buqa appartment is very comfortable and very-well equipped. We spent a very good time in Buqa with our 2 children. Jacuzzi, wii games for children, comfortable sofas and beds, well-equipped kitchen, beautiful view from balcony at 5 minute-walk from Samoens center! Can you have better holidays? Elan helps you to prepare your stay and is very comprehensive. He answers all your questions very quickly! Buqa team is perfect too! Thank you and keep "buqafied"!

It's a pleasure to read that you're Buqafied :)

"Apartment Buqa - excellent accommodation for a great ski holiday"

From the electrically heated ski-boot storage to clean white sheets and towels, apartment Buqa offers welcome comfort and luxury after a great day's skiing on the Grand Massif. We loved: the high tech: from kitchen to entertainment, this apartment lacks nothing - even includes a welcome jacuzzi bath and underfloor heating - not to mention the awesome wood burning fire place! We were impressed by the cleanliness and high level of maintenance.. not to mention the brilliant service and friendliness from both owner and caretaker. We will be back :-)

Buqafied :) Thanks for the feedback and rebooking in March 2015. Team Buqa

"Great chalet where we felt very much at home"

We had a wonderful week at the Buqa chalet. We received a warm welcome from Gilles and had all the information beforehand from Elan. Everything was at hand in the chalet and facilities close by. We had a great week of skiing in the beautiful and extensive Grand Massif area and would very much recommend staying at the Buqa Chalet.

We're happy you are Buqafied :)
