Location description from owner

The Boa Vista region

Sal Rei (salt king) has a unique African/Portuguese atmosphere. Shop for provisions, local crafts, stop in a bar or restaurant: have a drink, eat freshly caught fish or other 'local' dish like 'catchupa', overlooking the quay, beach or town square.

Chill out on the balcony or by the pool, enjoy a cool drink from the pool bar/restaurant.

Hire a car, dune buggy, bicycle or scooter - explore the island, see small villages & superb endless white sand beaches (eg Santa Monica).

Go sea/beach fishing, snorkelling; diving; wind/kitesurfing; trekking; dune buggying, horse riding.

See loggerhead turtles nesting/hatching, glimpse whales around Sal Rei Islet, a feeding area for humpback whales-a magical sight if you are lucky enough

Sal Rei

500k west of Senegal in the Atlantic Ocean, The Islands of Cape Verde enjoy their own diverse culture, strong sense of history and identity that has been widely influenced by Africa, Portugal and Brazil, yet remain unique to the Cape Verde islands.

The ten islands all offer something different, with enough beauty and beguiling charm for even the most seasoned traveller, along with a tropical climate and miles of beautiful light golden sandy beaches.

With flights under 6 hours from the UK, the small time difference and the friendly people, it is hard to beat as an all-round holiday destination, and still low key enough to feel like a bit of a discovery.

Boa Vista is home to some of the most dazzling beaches on the archipelago covering a staggering 55km. Closest to the African mainland, Boa Vista is not only renowned for its stunning beaches but its marine life too. Nightlife here is very low key and quiet with just a scattering of local restaurants and bars.

More About Boa Vista

Boa Vista is quite literally covered in sand and many buildings have been completely absorbed leaving an endless blanket of sand. A great example of this is on Praia da Chaves, an old ceramic factory covered in sand is still intact with machines in situ! Sahara like dunes in the interior of the island with sprouting date palms are an impressive sight and well worth a visit.Depending on the time of year you may even spot some turtles on the islands southern beaches. Boa Vista is thought to be the third most important loggerhead turtle nesting site in the world, with the favoured time of year for turtles to nest usually being during the months of June through to September.

The miles of unspoilt coast line are excellent for you to enjoy uninterrupted walks as well as being a popular location for windsurfing enthusiasts.

Other watersports are available in addition to quad biking tours and line and deep-sea fishing.

Festivals:

There are a few festivals on the island including the common music festival that takes place on Santa Cruz in August. The other main colourful festival is:Santa Isabel (Municipality Day) 4 July - The day of Santa Isabel, the patron saint of the island. Celebrated with processions, swimming, horse racing, tours and a public ball.

Hot Tip for Boa Vista:

In addition to turtles on the beach you may catch a glimpse of whales in the islet of Sal Rei, a feeding ground for humpback whales and a magical sight if you are lucky enough to experience it. Whale sightings usually take place from Mar - Jun.

“Boa Vista”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2015

We stayed for a week at Geris Boa Vista appt. The complex is pretty peaceful all day and night and has a lovely relaxing atmosphere to it. The location is perfect for access to a beautiful beach and a short walk into the local town. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for the week. No air con but this was not an issue as ceiling fans were sufficient. The complex was also very well looked after and the pool always immaculate. During our stay a small business offering massage and other relaxation therapies opened up. A lovely addition to the complex. Would definitely visit again.

Many thanks Laura, I hope we'll see you again when you're craving the sun! Ihad also had mosquito blinds fitted just before your stay, and installed a bbq which will be nice on the new side patio area. Also, there are windows front and back, so there is always a cooling through draught even when it's very hot. I believe Marina's massage 'parlour' nearby will prove very popular with owners and guests alike either before or after a refreshing swim and/or drink, meal or snack at Elcibar - all within 2 minutes stroll!!

“Super!!!”

We are from Germany and were there three weeks with our children (13 and 17 years). There were two nice bedrooms and everything was very clean. Excellent was the swimming pool and the bar on the housing complex. The people on the Island were very friendly. We recommend this appartment completely.

Thank you so much for a lovely review and for being perfect guests!!

“Paradise!”

Reviewed 30 May 2014

I stayed at Vila Cabral 2 for a week in May with my best friend.. It's our third visit to Boa Vista but the first time staying in an apartment in Sal Rei. The apartment was lovely, right by the beach and only 5 min walk to the shops and bars. & we had the pool pretty much to ourselves as it was a quiet week! The only slight downside was elci bar was shut for 4 days whilst we were there and so although we'd paid for wifi, we couldn't use it on the days they were shut - obviously something that was just bad luck & to be fair we coped without. I would definitely recommend reggae night on Tuesday evening at Morabeza, it's an amazing vibe, good music & who doesn't love a bar on the beach! Social Club is beautiful as well and we had a brilliant day relaxing by the beach & sunbathing there. I've always loved Boa Vista & this time was just as good!

Very many thanks for a lovely review. So happy you enjoyed it. Sorry about the wifi, but there is a working 'dongle' available in the apartment, for just 20 euros refundable deposit - you only had to ask my 'managers' - never mind, next time eh?...hope to see you again soon (or even in Sal perhaps!)

everything was perfect and so easy from enquiring to booking to airport pickup to the actual apartment the location and the people in surrounding apartments to ask directions etc, EXCELLENT.

What can I say? Except thank you and do please come again - our aim is to share this wonderful place!!

“Great place - made the trip worthwhile!”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2014

The apartment was brilliant and served us well over the week we were in Cape Verde! It is within a few minutes walk into the centre of town, has a beach straight across the road and the little shop within the building was one of the best places! Always seemed to be a party there each night! Would book again when I head back!

Thank you, look forward to hearing from you again when you are planning your next visit - just make it a bit longer, there's so much to do!!
