La Vieille Grange is a lovely 5 bedroom home in the heart of Roquebrun. Once a store for wine belonging to one of the main wine estates of the village is has been refurbished into a beautiful, spacious home with a small detached annexe. The style of the house is reminiscent of a provencal-style farm house - and a rare find in the Languedoc. It has the style and authenticity of "real France" combined with all the modern appliances required for a relaxing holiday for families or groups of friends.
The house comprises a huge lounge and kitchen looking out over the garden and pool with three sets of double doors opening directly onto the garden and terrace. The lounge has a comfortable soft seating area for ten people and a similarly large dining area. The fully-equipped galleried kitchen leads out onto the pool and BBQ area - with seating for ten people to dine al fresco. The kitchen itself contains a dishwasher, electric oven, microwave and fridge/freezer. A washing machine is situated in the separate laundry room.
There are five spacious bedrooms - all with en suite bath/shower rooms. The master double bedroom opens onto a large balcony with uninterrupted views of Roquebrun's mediterranean garden and medieval tower. The other bedrooms in the main house (2x doubles and 1 twin) are all light and airy with calm views of the river and garden. One bedroom leads off the lounge and enjoys its own access to the garden - perfect for older visitors who don't like stairs. A further double bedroom is situated in the small cottage.
It is fully furnished with a stylish mixture of antique brocante and modern furniture together with up to date comforts. All rooms have heating and air conditioning.
The amenities of the village are close by - shops, tourist information, restaurants, river swimming and canoeing and yet when you close the garden gate you will enter your own oasis of calm and privacy.
La Vieille Grange offers everything you need for a real French holiday in one of France's most beautiful villages.

La Vieille Grange has a floor area of almost 300 m2, the garden also is about 300 m2 and the pool is 6 x 12 m.
The house has four large bedrooms, all with ensuite bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.
The master bedroom (39 m2) has a double bed (160 x 200) and a bathroom with, in addition to the above, a bath and separate shower. Through the French windows you have access to the private terrace of 50 m2, with views of the village and the ancient tower of Roquebrun.
There are also two large bedrooms (one with a double bed, one with two singles) upstairs and there is a bedroom on the ground floor with a double bed (160 x 200). From this bedroom you can walk directly into the garden. A fifth bedroom is located in a detached annexe (bed 190 x 140). All beds are equipped with duvets.
The salon has a fantastic fireplace, and the whole house has electric heating which, in the summer, can function as an air-conditioning system. In the upstairs hallway is a library with several English and French books. There is also a large bookcase in the downstairs bedroom.
There is ample garden furniture for outside living and there are 6 sun loungers around the pool plus four other reclining seats.
At the back of the garden there is an old chapel, which is still owned by the family that once owned the entire wine domaine. While they still have a right to visit the shrine, during the last few years this has not occurred .

The garden is a particular feature with year round sunshine from Roquebrun's micro-climate and yet plenty of shade to retreat from the heat of summer -provided by the 200 year old pine together with olive and mimosa trees. Part of the garden is laid to lawn for small children to play. Oleander, vine, lemon and rose bushes provide colour and interest around the ancient chapel which belongs to one the oldest wine growing families in the village. Visitors are, of course, asked to treat the chapel with respect.
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Walk to river swimming in River Orb. 45 minutes Med beaches. Roquebrun is near Beziers, Pezenas, Olargues, Narbonne, Montpellier.
Thanks to its warmer climate, a magnificent Jardin Mediterranean has been made in Roquebrun, with an enormous variety of plants from almost every Mediterranean region.
Perched on a south facing slope over the river Orb, beautiful Roquebrun offers everything you need for an entertaining holiday!
The origins of Roquebrun go back to the 9th century when a stronghold was built here to ward off invaders from the south. Nowadays only a part of one of the original towers still reminds of that era. Roquebrun is now better known because of its micro climate (due to the protection from the north wind by the mountains) that permits all sorts of Mediterranean plants and trees to thrive here that usually only grow in more southern regions.
In summer the small 600 inhabitant town comes to life and lives up to its reputation of "le petit Nice".
Roquebrun is a picturesque old midi village with narrow, winding streets, often without cars. There are a few cafés and restaurants along the river and near the Orb bridge there is a Petit Casino supermarket.
At the local Caveau you may get acquainted with the local (AOC Saint Chinian) wines and more pleasant surprises can be found at the many independent domaines.
Roquebrun boasts a lovely pebble beach on the river Orb with lots of shaded places and a magnificent view of the old village. A nice place to spend a hot summer day!
But Roquebrun is also a starting point for canoes. A number of beautiful and exiting canoe trips are offered through the lovely Orb valley. And of course there is every possibility to go trekking and (mountain)biking.
And, of course, the Med itself with its sandy beaches. At only about half an hours drive!

We are 6 friends and have spent a summer holiday week together for the last few years in villas in Europe. We were all of the opinion that this villa would take a lot of beating. It is an old house with modern equipment, cooker, American fridge/freezer etc. it has a fantastic garden with lovely swimming pool and areas of sun and shade all through the day. The interior is comfortable and has many thoughtful little touches that make a holiday special and is how we imagined a French villa to be. Roquebrun itself is a small village that has everything we needed, plenty of vineyards, a yummy bakery, 3 or 4 restaurants and bars and a small general shop. All in all it was near perfection.

"Best villa we have ever stayed in ."
We were a group of 10 people of varying ages and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Vieille Grange. The villa has a great location in the centre of Roquebrun but still enjoys total privacy. Everyone was able to have their own space as the rooms are very large, you never felt as if there were 10 people there. Roquebrun is a lovely town and very welcoming to tourists. Thank you for allowing us to have a fabulous holiday in your wonderful villa.
Thank you for your kind review. To give you an update: a (free) wifi network has recently been installed in la Vieille Grange, so internet access is now available.
