Location description from owner

The Puglia region

Crystal blue sea, green countryside, intense red terrain, golden sunsets....You can experience a multitude of emotions holidaying in Puglia all year round. You can find all of the tourist information that you may require on www.viaggiareinpuglia.it. Puglia protects its special environments, such as the National Park of the Gargano, where Rodi Garganico is.

The Gargano was one out the 31 Places to go in 2010, according to the New York Times (January 10, 2010). The Park covers the whole homonymous cape and also includes the Tremiti Islands. Here there are several rare protected habitats such as the Foresta Umbra ('Umbrian forest'), the last existing sample of a vegetation characterizing most of Mediterranean area during prehistory.

Cathedrals, basilicas, and sanctuaries testify to an artistic growth influenced by dominations and seigniories are now important destinations for pilgrims and tourists. Among these, the Pulsano Hermitage (top rank Italian sights to preserve in 2011), the San Michele Sanctuary in Monte Sant'Angelo, along the ancient Via Sacra Langobardorum, or San Giovanni Rotondo, the town where Padre Pio lived and died.

Rodi Garganico

RODI GARGANICO, a small town, perched on a little headland in the northern coast. It is surrounded by orange and lemon trees, hidden by a thick cane-brake and with a smell of orange flowers. It was built by the Cretens (later on the Greeks settled down). The very nice old town is typical with its narrow lanes, stairs and little gardens. The church of San Nicola di Mira in Byzantine style and the church of San Pietro, dated back to 1200 with statues of the XVI cent., are to be seen.

Rodi Garganico exerts an increasing appeal for people seeking relaxing and memorable holiday experience in a well preserved environment. On the other hand, on the main pier of the new harbour small restaurants, boutiques, wine bars, ice-cream and pastry shops offer a wide choice to spent a pleasant evening, listening live-music particularly in the summer or dancing in a disco facing the sea.

Rodi Garganico is a privileged starting point for one-day trips to the impressive San Michele Sanctuary, where pilgrims carved their hands in the rock before sailing for Holy Land, Emperor Frederic II's renowned Caste at Castel del Monte (a unique masterpiece of medieval military architecture, Alberobello famous for its whitr cone-roofed houses, the Castellana Caves or the amazing Sassi di Matera, where Mel Gibson shot is film "Passion of Christ".

“Great spot”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2016

This is a wonderful place to unwind and relax. The property is clean, bright, and modern with plenty of space for a couple. The kitchen is also modern and spacious. Best of all, there’s a balcony that offers fantastic views of the sea. The owner of the property, Claudio, lives on the lower floor of the property and is available to offer advice for shopping, trips in the area, etc. He is charming, attentive, and generous, and ensured our stay was as comfortable as possible. The property is located in a citrus grove and is only about a 10 minute walk from the sea and the town. Despite its proximity to the amenities of the town, it is very peaceful and quiet. It’s also a good location for exploring the rest of the Gargano Peninsula and other parts of southern Italy. We would highly recommend this property for any couple or small family who wants a restful, peaceful seaside vacation.

“Beautifully stylish apartment with unbelievable views set amongst an orange grove tended by a brilliantly helpful host”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

The secret to the success of our stay was undoubtedly Claudio who could not have been more helpful even to producing a CD player and a clove of garlic which I had forgotten to buy. Plus my email enquiry about where to buy lacto-free milk locally resulted in two bottles in the fridge on arrival. The building is full of character and quite old but has been delightfully refurbished in country-modern style. Beware though if you are not keen on walking up hills; the stunning views of the harbour do come from the fact that it is set into a steep hillside and if driving, the track up there is very narrow. Claudio will meet you and show you the way as finding it unaided would be tough. Rodi Garganico is an unusually interesting resort combining steep winding historic streets with a massive beach, modern-day picturesque harbour and beautiful colourful wall art. Worth the drive getting there.

“Terrific Experience - Five Star”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2012

(1) Rodi is the best town for a Gargano home-base. Better than Peschisi or Vieste. (2) The apartment was spacious, modern, with all the conveniences. Parking was easy, and secure. We had breakfast every morning on the Terrace, with its great view of the harbor and the Sea. Of course, we also enjoyed wine on the Terrace each evening. (3) The best thing was our Host, Claudio. On the night we arrived, he met us in town and guided us to the apartment. Next day, he showed us the daily Market, and some of the local shops. Frequently, he joined us for a glass of wine, and told us about the local tales and personalities. He was a delight!

“Magnificent seaview!!!”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2012

We spend 2 weeks at a beautiful location: modern well designed appartement with magnificent seaview. The appartment is located among a huge mediterranean garden.. we can recommend Villa Guilia seriously. Claudio and his wife Elvira are really excellent hosts, who helped us to enjoy our holiday by giving a lot of recommendations.

“Wonderful place with awesome hosts”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2012

Thanks to Villa Guilia and its friendly and very helpful owners we spent great holidays in Gargano. Villa is located 15 minutes from beach by walk, surrounded by lemon and orange trees and gorgeous bushes. Just go outside and pick some fruit from trees for super fresh and sweet refreshment during the day. Apartment was very clean, bright, air conditioned, with well equipped kitchen and sea view from terrace. There is also barbecue on the property, which you should use after visiting local fish market - highly recommended. Some basic goods and ingredients very ready for us and they made arrival even more comfortable. Claudio picked us up on the city outskirts and gave us plenty helpful informations about town and surroundings during our stay. He also drove with me through city and showed me places I am glad we didn't miss. He was really impressive host. We were staying there with 1+ year old kid who loved the place and enjoyed Italians' love and adoration of kids.

“Claudio is an excellent host who did everything to make our stay enjoyable”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2012

The apartment is wonderfully situated with fantastic views across the Adriatic from the balcony. Dining al fresco was great (when the weather permitted). Starting the day with freshly squeezed orange juice made with oranges just picked from the garden was brilliant. The fish restaurant, Alpheus, in Rodi recommended by Claudio was excellent - have the seafood starter to share. Sadly when we were there in mid-May the weather was not great and the beach was not accessible really as it was still being prepared for the main tourist season, which included problems with the new marina & coastal erosion.Wi fi made available by Claudio whenever we needed it. Definitely get Claudio to meet you & escort you to the apartment intially as it could be tricky to find - that's why it's so peaceful.

“Lovely spot, gracious hosts, very relaxing”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2012

We spent 4 nights in this apt and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The apt is on the 1st floor with a terrace overlooking the sea. Orange trees are abundant on the property so that fresh squeezed juice can be a daily treat. Location is about 5 minutes outside of town by car, or a 20 minute walk. Claudio is a very gracious host, always happy to answer questions. Our stay was before the beach season started, but proved to be a perfect time to hike in the Gargano forest above the town. The apt is spacious, with a well-equiped kitchen. It is a very quiet location since it is outside of town. Rather than provide directions, Claudio met us in town and guided us up the hill. This made our arrival much easier. The only caution is that the hot water heater in the bathroom is a bit on the small side. It is perfectly adequate if you stagger shower times amongst the occupants, however.
