La Petite Fermette is a little hobby farm in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It lies at 620m above sea level, just outside the small and rural hamlet of Mouïche. The surrounded countryside is unspoilt - meadows, forests and mountains with a rich flora and fauna.
As well as our many activities on the farm, we rent our free-standing wooden house on La Petite Fermette. It's a cosy ecological house suited for 2-4 people with the option for an extra two people in an adjoining but separate studio (nice for friends, grandparents, etc…)
The house has a large, light-filled living room with 2 sofas and armchairs. There is a wood burning stove to warm up the house on chilly evenings.
From the living room you can look through to the kitchen wich includes all the necessarry items - fridge with small freezer, oven, coffee machine and gas hob. Rainwater is used throughout the house, with a special tap in the kitchen exclusively for drinking water.
On the ground floor there is a bathroom with toilet, shower, hand basin and washing machine.
On the first floor there are two bedrooms, both with twin beds, with the possibillity of joining two beds together to form a large double bed.
There is a possibility to stay with 6 people at La petite fermette. Next to the house is a adjoining but seperated studio (for 2 people). The studio has it own entrence, a cosy double bed, kitchen, fridge, toilet and hand basin.
From the covered terrace you have a beautifull view over the vegetable garden to the valley below. The garden is private and not over-looked, with many different areas to sit or lie in the sun or shade, with sun beds, hammocks and cosy corners to sit in and enjoy.
The house is situated on its own private garden of 3000 m2. The garden is enclosed completely, ideal for children and pets so they can roam around freely. The gîte is an ecologically built house where we look at its use of energy resources. Rainwater is used troughout the house and we used recycled materials. The wooden house is built on the foundations of an old sheperd's hut. This gives the house a real mountain character.
The owners Anouk and Rene keep themselves busy with the ecological vegetable garden, animals and other things that are necessary to live a free, and balanced life with nature. Cooking lovely meals for there guests with vegetables and herbs from the veg garden, making fresh cheese from the milk of their Basque mountain sheep, making fresh sourdough bread, organising beautiful walks with horses, or having fun with making pizza's together with the guests on a lovely evening.
For the more adventureous, there are endless possibilities for outdoor sports and excursions in the surrounding areas from walking, hiking, mountainbiking and horse riding to mountain climbing, canyoning and caving. (There are plenty of hiking maps of the area.) With the local lakes (Montbel and Puivert) and rivers close by, you can swim, sail, canoe, kayak or even go white water rafting. For those who enjoy heights you can also go gliding.
(La Petite Fermette is a working hobby farm and at times there will be some activity such as feeding the animals and taking care of the garden. We are not staying ourselves on the property of the gite.)
