Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Seton Sands Holiday Village is located along the seaside in East Lothian, Edinburgh. The park is an easy 20 minute drive to Edinburgh city centre. Or leave your car at the park and take the 26 bus that stops right in front of the park into the heart of magical Edinburgh where you can roam the Royal Mile and tour Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace (the Queen's residence when in Edinburgh), wander down to the Grassmarket or over to Princes Street and through lush Princes Street Gardens.

The options for day trips from the park are endless. Exploring the quaint fishing villages along the coast of Fife is high on the list of things to do and makes for a fun day of sightseeing. Drive the Borders' Abbeys route and tour the abbey ruins of Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso, and Jedburgh while enjoying the gorgeous countryside and classic villages along the way. Berwick Upon Tweed is just over an hour down the coast road and well worth the drive. Visit the ancient Lindisfarne Priory and the romantic, 16th century Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island, just a few miles off the Northumberland coast... but check the tidal schedule. The island is cut off from the mainland twice a day during high tide. Harry Potter fans will want to make a day of it and visit Alnwick Castle and its fascinating gardens. Alnwick Castle doubles as Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films and has been home to the Percy family for over 700 years. The family has warmly opened their special home to tours, including some of their private living areas. Even Loch Lomand and the lower parts of the highlands can be seen in a well-planned day trip.

Port Seton

The local area includes the fishing ports of Cockenzie/Port Seton, Prestonpans, Musselburgh, and Portobello. Portobello was known as Edinburgh's seaside resort town in days gone by. Today, a walk along its seaside promenade is a great way to spend a couple of hours. The classic town of North Berwick with its landmark Bass Rock is just a few minutes down the road in the other direction. There are boat trips and tours available at the harbor. You'll pass the small hamlet of Dirleton and the impressive ruins Dirleton Castle on the way to North Berwick. The castle is open to the public and well worth the stop. And if it's castles you crave, then Craigmillar Castle - between Edinburgh and Port Seton is fun to explore. Do you like to hike? Then Arthur's Seat, the dormant volcano that overlooks Holyrood Palace, the Royal Mile, and all of Edinburgh and beyond is the place for you. With the remains of an ancient chapel, two lakes, endless trails and a breathtaking view from the crags and the top of the mountain, Arthur's Seat is definitely one of the area's top destinations. And if it's rest and relaxation you're hoping for... Then we have that too. Spend your days strolling the long beach of Longniddry just steps away from the caravan... search for sea glass and treasures. We never get tired of it.
