From the owner

three secluded cottages nestled in the jungled foothills overlooking the sleepy market town of port antonio on jamaicas northeast coast.Walking distance to craft and produce markets and the transportation center where local route taxis take you to nearby beaches..or hiking and rafting excursions in the nearby blue mountain national park. The property is densely fruited with mango, banana avocado, papaya, and soursop trees..wild parrots, hummingbirds and many other birds endemic to jamaica are daily visitors... the cottages are 100,200,and 300 steps up a steep hill,so a certain level of fitness is advisable.comfortable, lightweight, walking shoes with good grip on wet surfaces are advisable...running water is not hot unless u choose to heat it on the stove..the air is conditioned by fans and sea breezes.situated as we are in the rainforest, you will encounter mosquitos, ants and lizards..sometimes in your room...beds are covered with mosquito netting..long pants/socks are advisable early evenings..some visitors need a nite or two to get used to the sounds of early morning roosters ,dogs, parrots and woodpeckers..linens provided...jamaicans are a loud and boisterous people who sometime give visitors the impression that they are about to fight ..dont worry..its just normal behavior..lots of huffing and puffing..as for loud music..its hard to escape anywhere in jamaica..maybe an all inclusive hotel..but then u wake up in the morning to the sound of weedwackers...port antonio people by and large do not depend on tourists,so they live their lives without that restraint on their love of loud music.many people prefer the top cottage but it has its drawbacks..100 more steps to carry provisions..bathroom is downstairs bedroom up..some people dont sleep well first night if it rains loudly on the roof..it bears repeating, long pants an.d socks are helpful in the evenings to deter mosquitoes...i would go as far as to say that if you are allergic to insect bites, this rainforest environment might not be the best choice for you..finally,a tip on luggage..suitcases are impractical due to the steep terrain and distance from the car park..backpacks are a better option..and a final tip..many places in jamaica, including mango ridge are not easy to find after dark..our lane is across from the sunrise tavern..sommerstown rd..just up from the adventist church.

Cute cottages that provides vigorous work outs and all the highlights of rural Jamaican nightlife.

Our simple cottage had character and a (distant) ocean view but these features did not compensate for a night full of annoyances. Our cottage was 149 steps up a steep hill. Fortunately, we are physica… More

Owner's reply:
jill and her 2 guests booked a 3 bedroom home for 2 nights at the rate of 30$ per person per night..she later requested to book only one night and altho we have a 2 night minimum,we made an exception in her case..the issues with the 149 steps, bar music, dogs and roosters are clearly mentioned in our property description in order to alert prospective guests beforehand should this be a concern before booking..we also caution prospective guests that we are in a rainforest environment complete with mosquitos and other jungle life..we particularly note that guests should take precautions to protect themselves by using repellant and or wearing long clothing in the evenings..all beds are covered by mosquito nets and have fans..all guests receive a washcloth and 16 by 30 inch medium size towel..the comment about treacherous and rickety stairs is pure fiction...your snarky comment that the positives of your one night were no ganja smoke and u only booked one night says more about your sense of entitlement than anything else..we have over 650 positive reviews on multiple websites and your mean spirited diatribe will not deter us from providing budget accomodations for open minded travellers..oh..sorry about the frog...
