“Simply stunning!” I travelled to many places but have never felt upon entering my lodging the way I did when I set my foot in Tranquility Villa. The place is indescribably beautiful -- the pictures on the website do not justice to the views you have from the villa. Together with my family, we had huge trouble coming up with appropriate adjectives that would sum this place up. You have the view of the Caribbean Sea to your left, palm and bamboo trees and Blue Mountains in front of you and to your right. The villa staff -- Dennis and Beverly -- should teach courses on hospitality. They were warm, friendly, and welcoming; we immediately bonded with them. Dennis cut gorgeous flowers every morning to set at the table on the terrace. Beverly cooked Jamaican food that was just incredible. Our driver, Charlie, proved to be so much more than a driver. He was an amazing guide. He went out of his way to accomodate us and to show real Jamaica to us. I really have nothing negative to say about Tranquility Villa. The villa is clean and stylishly furnished, the beds are comfy, the service is impeccable, and the owner with whom we booked our stay was kind and willing to spend considerable amount of time over the phone with me prior to our landing in Jamaica and answer my questions. The ride through Blue Mountains to get to Port antonio is beautiful and definitely worth the 2 hours in the car. Since getting back, we are recommending Tranquility Villa to all our friends and family. Just before leaving the villa, we took a picture with Beverly, Dennis, and Charlie and as we were leaving, found ourselves tearing up -- which tells ou how lovely the staff was towards us! It was a heavenly stay!

“A place where its beauty takes care of you!” Just looking at the pictures of Ridge Bay Chateau brings nostalgia from my recent getaway! Just like the breathtaking view that can be seen from Ridge Bay..the interior of the villa is just as enchanting. I enjoyed every minute of my stay at the villa. You can't help but fall in love with the scenic beauty of the lush parish of Portland and Ridge Bay wets your appetite very well! It is just minutes away from some of Jamaica's most exotic beaches and even the "city" where just chilling at the Marina all felt heavenly. Ridge Bay is one of those places where you can really just kick back, relax and enjoy..all you need to do is get there and everything else will just take your breath away.

“We Loved Norse Hill” This was my wife and my first trip to Jamaica and this wonderful area near Port antonio (and my first-ever review of a vacation spot). Norse Hill is unbelievable, yeh mon! The house is large, as are all of the rooms. Beautiful wood work, ornate railings, local artwork, high ceilings, cool architecture, you name it. The staff was very friendly, polite and welcoming. We only had breakfast because we were gone during the days and nights. Fresh fruit, plantains, pancakes, bacon, eggs, a local dish of greens and fish that was fantastic, juices etc, basically anything we'd like started off our days. From our second floor good-sized balcony we could see the large and immaculately manicured lawn, stately trees, hanging vines, flowers, beautiful swimming pool and view of the Caribbean, about a 10 minute ride to reach. The grounds are a tropical paradise and my only regret is that we didn't spend more time hiking around the property. Trails lead to clearings in what is a real slice of paradise. And the beaches below have the clear aqua green water that you usually see in a magazine like Conde Nast Traveler. Couldn't recommend this place enough. It probably sleeps 8 or more tho I'm not sure. We slept in a large comfortable canopied bed with mosquito netting. We opened the doors to the balcony and a nice cool breeze made sleeping really easy. At night we heard all kinds of exotic bird sounds as well as an early rooster or two. I've never seen so many different plants, ferns and palms at such a large scale before. If you love gardens this is one you must see and explore. It's world class! The house and grounds are as clean and well maintained as can be. Just down the road is Gee Jam, a bar/restaurant /recording studio, where the views are almost as outrageous as at Norse Hill. We got to tour the studio where Beyonce has recorded, among others. If we ever come back to Jamaica we'd invite some friends along to fill up the house and we'd make sure to tour the grounds more.

Port Antonio holidays

Miles away from Montego Bay and Negril, you will find a sleepy village at the foot of the Blue Mountains that goes by the name of Port Antonio. Favoured by A-list celebrities, you too can holiday like a star by renting one of the many available properties on Holiday Lettings. Browse the selection today and plan your perfect Caribbean getaway!

About Port Antonio, Jamaica

Located on Jamaica’s north coast, east of Ocho Rios, it’s easy to see why Port Antonio has become a secret getaway for royalty and stars across the globe.

With beautiful beaches—and the fact it takes a three-hour drive to get there from Kingston—Port Antonio has a colonial charm not found in other parts of the island.

You will not find any high-octane beach parties or locals trying to sell you their wares or hook you up with a tour. But you will find a laid-back place for travellers looking to escape the world.

Port Antonio nearly took off as a holiday destination after being discovered by Errol Flynn and his buddies back in the 1940s. This is a town where movie stars like Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton used to arrive at by private yacht.

As the tourism pendulum swung west, Port Antonio went back to growing banaanas and fishing but still remains a popular destination.

What to do in Port Antonio

What you will find in Port Antonio is what people like to call the real Jamaica. It’s the kind of place where you eat peas and rice rather than expensive imported food, and drink Red Stripe beer from the bottle rather than sipping a gin and tonic on a verandah.

Most people who visit Port Antonio do so because they just want to laze on a beach and go for the occasional swim. However, if you like to engage in other activities there are plenty of things to keep you busy.

Visit the Blue Lagoon—a spring-fed body of water where the warm Caribbean waters collide with cold natural spring waters. Depending on the amount of sunlight, the water changes colour from an intoxicating green to a deep sapphire blue.

Have a local fisherman take you out for a day of snorkelling or fishing in his brightly coloured wooden boat—that's a great day out!

Top travel tips for Port Antonio

With Caribbean temperatures hardly ever changing, the best time of year to visit Port Antonio is mid-November through December when airfares are low. Peak season is January through March with most of the rain falling during the summer—which is also when you may encounter a hurricane.

With slippery rocks around the beaches and jungle waterfalls, be sure to bring a pair of shoes that you can wear while in the water.

There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy eating like a local. You can sample the freshest of seafood, taste the spice of jerk chicken and the unusual flavours of curried goat with fruit and vegetables. Just the way Mother Jamaica intended them to be.

Port Antonio is perfect for solo travellers and families looking for a safe Caribbean holiday where they can relax while enjoying the white sandy beaches and warm gin-clear water of Jamaica. To find your slice of island paradise, browse all the rentals available on Holiday Lettings. There’s something for your individual accommodation and budgeting needs.

Mr Barrys - Portland 4 Bedroom villa with a view sleeps 9
Couldn't take my eyes off the view

I dont normally write reviews but thought this place deserved one so here goes. We were told about harmony heights through a friend who explained to us that the place was still under construction but if you didn't need all the comforts of home was a perfect place to get away. As it was our first time in Jamaica we were a bit nervous about having to travel 2 hours by road from kingston but for an extra charge a driver from harmony heights met us on arrival. When we arrived to the house all I can say is that it took our breath away and the view from the veranda was different class. The area was a bit off the beaten track but close to some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. Service at the house was good and a friendly welcoming atmosphere all the while, there wasn't any wifi but that wasn't a bad thing as it meant we wasn't stuck to our laptops all day and night. Also there wasn't any hot water but the sun in the day kept the water nice for a shower or 2, the area had loads of places to eat but we preferred to take a taxi into town to the supermarket and cook for ourselves in the kitchen. Every morning we had a choice of fruit and cereal, toast , eggs or Head's delicious coconut cornmeal porridge. On the whole we got to stay in a beautiful house in a beautiful country for a beautiful price.see more
