“Ottimo! The only downside was having to leave.”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2016

I had booked our holiday almost a year in advance having seen Pigna featured on a Place in the Sun. Ian and Sue's house seemed perfect as it offered lots of indoor and outdoor space for me,my husband and two children aged 13 and 10 and was situated in the old winding streets so was central to the cafe's and restaurants but gave a real sense of going back in time as well as feeling like you lived there ( wishful thinking ! ). I was looking forward to the holiday so much I was worried it might not live up to our expectations - In fact it surpassed them and I loved everything about Pigna and the house and whilst I usually like to visit different places the only question is when we will be re booking. The information supplied by Ian and Sue beforehand and in the Villa was so helpful - my family joked with me that I was forever reading the " bible". There was so much to do and whilst we managed to visit Rock Pools ( stunning ), the beach at Menton and San Remo, Monaco and Monte Carlo and many of the picturesque neighbouring villages, experienced a festival in Pigna which my husband loved dancing at ! I feel I have to return as there is so much more to do/ see. We enjoyed the food, wine and fantastic variety of restaurants., we found the prices unbelievably reasonable unless you went to the more touristy places which is only to be expected, The local cafe Des el Roy did the most amazing pastries, cakes and coffee and Ice creams and again we couldn't believe the prices. Our children loved the holiday we all agreed it was our best yet and as I said we are already arguing about when to go back. Before booking Ian warned about booking car hire outside of the airport terminal, I stupidly booked a car with Touché based at the Park Inn hotel opposite terminal 1, our flight was 2 hours late but even so we arrived before 9pm and the desk was closed so just a warning to avoid this company, there are plenty of others at the airport. So it's just left to say a massive thank you to Ian Sue and Penny for introducing us to this lovely unspolt place and your gorgeous holiday home which offers so much more than just a holiday rental. Wine on arrival, comfy beds even medical supplies, great selection of books and DVDS if you wanted them. Thanks also to Georgia who met us and provided lots of helpful advise, she is English maintains a Birmingham accent but lives in Pigna so am very envious. I loved getting up in the morning opening the bedroom door onto the balcony and looking up at the village Castel Vittoria on the hill opposite and seeing the Sun light it up. My mornings back in Ramsbottom just don't have the same effect !!

Owner's reply: WOW!! Thank you Sam and family for the 'Ottimo' review!! So glad you had a great holiday and we'd love to welcome you back to our house in Pigna anytime. Just drop us an email if you want to re-book, we always get busy in the summer holidays but we're happy to offer families who've stayed before priority if we can. Hope you're not too sad to be home although understand how you miss the place, we do too!! Best wishes, Ian & Sue

“FABULOUS VILLA - PERFECT LOCATION!!”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2013

If you want to experience the real Italy and stay in a medieval village (with all modern conveniences of course!) then this is the place for you. From first booking and contacting Ian and Susan, the owners, through the service received from Georgia who takes care of the housekeeping of the villa, to leaving and (sadly) handing back the keys, the whole experience was friendly, courteous and over and above what is normally expected from villa rentals. You are made to feel that you a guest in a friend's home rather than a paying customer. The villa itself is gorgeous, very roomy with lots of outside space for just relaxing, sunbathing or entertaining. It is furnished to a very high standard and the rooms are large and light and airy. There is all the equipment you need and even two televisions (with UK Freeview channels just in case you can't bear to miss the British soaps!). The location is perfect, just inside the medieval village but with easy access from the car park with the views from the terrace to die for, beautiful mountains with a fairy tale village appearing to be hanging on the side of a mountain. It is so peaceful and relaxing you probably won't want to leave. But you will want to walk down to the main village and visit the local restaurants and café/bars where the food and wine are excellent and very reasonably priced and where you can meet with the locals who are very friendly and welcoming. We made friends with the owner of Sul Ponte, the restaurant/café in the village, and the patisserie owner, who soon remembered our 'tipple' - in the patisserie our 'tipple' being the delicious homemade ice cream! If you are 'tennis mad' like us there is a newly built tennis court available for hire in the village at a reasonable charge per hour, bookings are made with the owner of the patisserie. Pigna is ideally located for both the French and Italian Riviera, with easy access to Monaco and Nice on the French Riviera and, on the Italian Riviera, through pretty coastal villages to San Remo. We had a wonderful time and will be returning next year to see all the places we didn't have time to visit and once more enjoy this unspoilt Italian paradise. Thanks Ian and Susan for sharing your beautiful 'Place in the Sun' and we look forward to spending many more holidays in your villa.

Owner's reply: Thank you Irene and John for the great comments - hope to see you again next year
