The villa is in an elevated position on the edge of a quiet residential area, looking towards open country; a large local supermarket is within 3 minutes walk. We are within an easy 15 minute walk of Pézenas's historic town centre, which has all you need in terms of shops, street cafes and restaurants. For your first night, perhaps, there is also a good restaurant within 7 minutes walk. For ball games, tennis and other leisure pursuits, a local park is just 3 minutes walk away and a selection of spacious, sandy Mediterranean beaches are within a short drive (eg Vias Plage 18km, Marseillan Plage 24km, Cap d'Agde, 25km).

Béziers airport is just 20 minutes drive away, with flights from Luton, Stansted, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oslo, Dusseldorf and Paris. Montpellier airport (45 minutes) has daily flights to Gatwick and Saturday flights to Luton as well as many European airports. Both airports are accessible by public transport. Other nearby airports with flights to the UK and Europe are Carcassonne, Nimes, Perpignan and Girona (Spain).

With its excellent location, the villa has quick access to the A9 and A75 autoroutes, providing fast links to the many attractions abounding in the Languedoc-Roussillon (Occitanie) and Cévennes areas. Indeed the villa is very easy to find, being about 1km from the A75 autoroute (toll-free from Clermont-Ferrand, except for the spectacular Millau Viaduct).

Pézenas is described in the Rough Guide as one of the most singularly beautiful towns in the French Southwest. It has a huge Saturday market and there are numerous events staged in the town during an extended season. The old town has a historic buildings trail and a wonderful selection of artisan shops. On two nights of the week in July and August the shops are open until midnight and local wine growers bring their produce to town for you to taste. A little further afield are the city of Montpellier and the ancient fortress of Carcassonne, to mention just a couple of interesting places to visit.

Winter lets are available: December, January, February. In winter (except 16 December to 5 January) the second week is half price, or we offer 3 weeks for the price of two. We have full central heating and a log fire is available for guests' use. Sadly, for winter lets, we need to pass on to you the cost of the gas and electricity that you consume during your stay, but there is no charge for any logs that you use.

OUR PRICING IS NOW IN £ STERLING, so that UK travellers will not be subject to exchange rate fluctuations. We also welcome visitors from the Eurozone and all other countries and are happy to accept euro payments. To make fee-free euro payments, we ask you to make a euro bank transfer to our UK euro bank account. (See the notes at the end of the pricing section for more details).

Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

Pezenas

Pézenas is located in the Vallée de l’Hérault, a beautiful area stretching from the Cevennes mountains down to the Mediterranean coast. Much of the area is covered by hillside vineyards and the landscape is dotted with numerous medieval villages. There are many other attractions in the area, including caves, canoeing and theme and waterparks near the many beaches you can discover. You will find brochures for many of the attractions in the villa, but better still, plan a few trips at leisure before your departure using guidebooks or the departmental websites such as herault-tourisme.

Towns to visit are Montpellier, Sète and Carcassonne, a world heritage site.

Getting around

You will be able to see more of the area more quickly if you have a car, but there are bus services to Montpellier, Beziers and Agde (all of which have train/TGV stations) and some of the surrounding villages. If you wish to go to Montpellier by bus, you have to change onto a tram at St Jean de Vedas to complete your journey. However, many guests have said that after they arrive they have been happy to spend most of the time by the pool, with an occasional walk to the nearby supermarket or the town centre. Bike hire from a cycle shop in town (Planet Velo) is also an option.

Interaction with guest

Our English Speaking House Manager will visit soon after your arrival to point out features of the villa and answer any questions. She or her husband will then be on hand throughout your stay to answer any queries you may have or to help with any emergencies. After paying the balance of the rent, we will supply you with a code, with which you can access the villa at any time after check-in time.

“Gorgeous villa”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2016

We had such a great holiday staying at this lovely property. Villa is spacious, very clean and very comfortable. Our two girls (12 & 14) were delighted to have a bed room each. Large sofas and comfy chairs in living space. A very well equipped kitchen. The pool is great, we used it a lot. Supermarket is very close, and is well stocked. We often got our bread from here in the mornings. Good selection of wine too. Pezenas town Center about 20 mins away on foot. We walked in once or twice a day. The town is lovely, with lots of cafes, restaurants and shops. Tour de France passed through the town during our visit. Just 10 min walk from the villa. That was quite exciting. We also enjoyed the Bastille Day fireworks. There was a great holiday atmosphere in Pezenas on those days. The Saturday market is amazing. Richard, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. So friendly and helpful. As were everybody we came in contact with, Maria, her husband and the cleaners we met as we were leaving. Everybody was so nice. All 4 of us would love to return, and would recommend it highly.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for sparing the time to write such a detailed review; we are very pleased that you and your family had a great holiday at our villa. We were interested to hear about your frequent walks into Pezenas town centre; we find it a great advantage to be able to walk there, and to be able to walk back again after visiting bars and restaurants! Thank you for your kind comments about our brilliant local team; we will pass these onto Marie, our house manager. You and your family would, of course, be very welcome to return to Les Vignes Anciennes at some time in the future.

“One of the best holiday rentals we've stayed in!”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2013

We stayed at Les Vignes Anciennes for two weeks in June, & as usual experienced both trepidation and excitement prior to our arrival. Once inside the property we explored with growing delight. This villa has everything. A home from home but with a swimming pool. Many places we've stayed in France have a tendency to uncomfortable beds - not here though, our bed was very comfortable indeed. We chose to stay in the upstairs bedroom because of the lovely private balcony, but downstairs had a great double bedroom also, plus a huge wetroom, plus a generous sized twin bedroom. The upstairs bathroom was a good size with a very efficient shower & decent sized bath. The kitchen was excellently equipped, the lounge very comfy, & the huge flat screen tv with English channels was a bonus. Having the swimming pool right outside the patio doors gave that extra special feeling of staying in total luxury. We loved the little minstrels gallery above the lounge! The open plan aspect & high ceiling gives the villa a wonderful light & airy feel. This villa is also equipped with wifi, & a laundry room which is a great asset if you're staying a fortnight. Pezenas itself is a beautiful town with lots of character, & plenty of lovely shops & restaurants. A relatively easy 20 minute walk will get you into town, walking in on a saturday is advisable because that's market day so parking can be tricky. The positioning of the villa is good, with easy access to the major road networks. The management team for Les Vignes Anciennes were terrific, very friendly & helpful. Thank you Marie! We had a great holiday & brought home lots of happy memories!

“First class accomadation”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2011

A superbly fitted out villa with quality fixtures and fittings, you could not fault the equipment and the villa itself was first class. On the edge of Pezenas with good local facilities, but close enough to the centre of town with its shopping and restaurants, not in a noisy area so very restful would definately go again.

“A beautiful house in a superb location.”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2011

We stayed in "Les Vignes Anciennes" in July. On arrival, the house was beautifully clean, spacious and was well equip. The swimming pool and small peaceful garden area kept adults and teenagers entertained for hours. It is set in an extremely convenient location, close to supermarkets and just a short walk into the beautiful town of Pezenas. There was little need to venture out in the car, however the vast selection of local sandy beaches and fishing ports just a short drive away were well worth a visit. We all loved this holiday, there was something for everyone, sunbathing, beach, sight seeing, a vast array of restaurants and bistros and the picturesque artist town of Pezenas to explore.
