Location description from owner
The Umbria region
In Umbria, a region that has gained a name for being the green heart of Italy, tourism is growing because of the unfamiliar harmony between nature, antiquities, historic centres and culture. The quiet of the countryside, good provisions and an inimitable cuisine are the great draw. This region is less touristy than Tuscany and this is especially appreciated by many tourists. It forms an ideal starting point for enjoying the peace of the surrounding hilly and mountainous landscape and on the other hand making trips to beautifull towns like Todi, Orvieto, Narni, Spoleto, Perugia, Gubbio, Assisi. You can also easily visit – in day trips - famous towns and charming villages in the southern part of Tuscany such as Siena, Arezzo, San Giminiano, Pienza, Cortona, Sinalunga, etc. Many tourists visit also Rome from here, without staying in the city which is very hot in summer. It is possible to go by car (journey of 1h-1h30) or by train from the stations of Terni, Narni-Amelia, Orte & Orvieto.
There are numerous charming little villages – many of medieval origin - as Amelia, Labro, Spello, Norcia, Bevagna, Montefalco to visit. In many towns and villages you can taste local dishes or buy local wines and olive oil (generally of excellent quality). We must not forget the mountains with some splendid woods, e.g. Terminillo (up to 2000 metres by car). In around 1 hour it is possible to reach the shimmering lakes of Bracciano, Vico, Piediluco, Bolsena and Trasimeno. The Mediterranean Sea (mostly sand beaches) situated between Tarquinia and Chiarone are 90-120 Kms away (around 1h20-1h40 driving). Near the city of Terni you can also visit the Marmore falls (165 meters, one of the highest of Europe), there is nearby also a rafting/canoeing/hydrospeed center.
Orvieto is situated on the flat summit of a large butte of volcanic tuff. The site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone. Main sights: Orvieto Cathedral, Underground city, Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, The Albornoz Fortress. The lake of Bolsena is around 22 kms far away. The water of the lake of Bolsena, now particularly clear and limpid thanks to an imposing sophisticated purification system managed by a consortium of Communes of the lake basin and to the fact that there are no pollution-generating industries in the area, has always been clean. The mild climate is particularly suited to children and older people. The sports that can be practiced on the lake include sailing, motor boating, water skiing and windsurfing. Places to visit:
Bisentina is an island in Lake Bolsena. It is accessible via a ferry service from Capodimonte. A curiosity is its evergreen oaks. There are also Italian gardens, a couple of churches and a convent. The Malta dei Papi, was a prison for priests found guilty of heresy, created out of a small cave.
Bolsena. The town that gives its name to the lake is now mainly famous for an apparent miracle that occurred in 1263. A consecrated host bled onto a corporal, the small cloth upon which the host and chalice rest during Mass. The appearance of blood was seen as a miracle to affirm the Roman Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation, which states that the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. The Corporal of Bolsena is now kept at Orvieto cathedral and is venerated because the red spots on the cloth appear to show the profile Jesus Christ.
Capodimonte. Not to be confused with the Capodimonte near Naples that gives its name to the famous porcelain, this Capodimonte has an interesting castle that used to belong to the Farnese family. It was mainly a fishing village.
Montefiascone. Interesting cathedral and some famous white wine.

- Very Good
What a stunning place. The house is in a fabulous location - private yet only 10 mins drive to town. The views over Orvieto are breath taking and can be enjoyed during the day from the pool but also on an evening sat on the balcony. The pool itself is gorgeous and is surrounded by vine yards, fruit trees and blossoming flowers. The owners are so lovely and left us baskets of tomatoes and eggs every few days. Such a treat. We will definitely be back!
We had the best holliday ever, 4 adults and two teenagers. In a quiet aera, with the perfect view of Orvieto. The poolarea and garden where amazing, and the house where very clean and well-maintained. The owner clean the pool every morning, around 6 o'clock - without beeing a disturbance. When we arrived there was wine, water, egg, milk and pasta - and some mornings the owner would leave a basket with egg and salat on the terrasse - lovely suprise. The pool was big, and for sole use. The owner doesn't live at the premises. Change of linens and towels once a week. We had NO NEGATIV coments. We stayed for two weeks, we will be back next year for three weeks :-) Perfect house, perfect location and very nice owners. Would recommand it to everyone. Thanks for a lovely holliday in beautiful Orvieto :-) Best regards fam. Amble
“Fabulous location, excellent pool and gardens!”
Wow! What a view! Such a lovely location, rural but 5 mins from Orvieto with all its cafes/restaurants/shops/architecture etc. House was very clean and comfortable. although we spent almost every waking minute by the pool if we weren't out exploring local area and Rome (v easy train journey from Orvieto). The pool and gardens were amazing! It was very handy to have a loo, fridge etc up by the pool area also. Alvaro cleaned the pool every morning, was very friendly, courteous and descreet and generously gave us produce from his gardens and chickens! Well maintained and well equipped. Overall, we were extremely happy and would love to return. Only thing to mention, is that there is only one shower that can be used really and that's in the en-suite. The one in the main bathroom doesn't have a screen or curtain and is a hand held shower over the bath. Wasn't a problem for us (family of 4) but might be for others.
