The Province of Leinster region

The Sunny South East of Ireland has the most hours of sunshine in the country, as its name suggests, allowing you to make the most of our sandy Blue Flag beaches and coves, and other favourite activities such as coastal walking, hillwalking, golfing, fishing, horse riding, water sports and visits to castles, abbeys and historic ruins.

The Blackstairs Mountains to the North of us and The Comeragh Mountains to the West are very popular with hill-walkers. Five of Ireland's major rivers flow through the region to the sea providing excellent fishing for brown trout and salmon, and of course sea angling off the coast. There is also a course fishing lake 5 km from the cottage.

A day trip to Kilkenny is a must and the drive through the pretty Nore Valley towns of Inistioge, Thomastown (Jerpoint Abbey) and Bennettsbridge enhances the journey and offer opportunities to see the wide variety of local pottery, glassware and other crafts in the area. Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny Design Centre, Rothe House, a 16th Century merchant's home, St. Canice's Cathedral (1285) and its Round Tower are some of the attractions to be enjoyed in Kilkenny.

Irish history and heritage can be explored with day trips to see The Rock of Cashel in Tipperary, Kiss the Blarney Stone and visit Jamesons Distillery in Cork, visit the former monastic settlement at Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. Travel to Dublin and take the Hop On/Hop Off sightseeing bus which takes in Trinity College (Book of Kells), St. Patrick's Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral/Dublinia presentation and Guinness Storehouse.

There are lots and lots of other possibilities!

New Ross

We are less than 1 hours drive from Rosslare Harbour, with Cork and Dublin 2 hours away.
Waterford (Crystal), Wexford and Kilkenny are under 25 miles from us.
The many sandy beaches and pretty fishing harbours of the Hook Peninsula stretch southwards, with the Blue Flag beach and harbour at Duncannon just 12 km away.

The beautiful J. F. Kennedy Arboretum has a huge array of trees and shrubs and a viewing point from where you can see 5 counties and coastline. The JFK Arboretum and the Kennedy Homestead (birthplace of JFK's great grandfather) are less than 4 km from the farm.

With a good riding centre, a Mini Farm with a variety of animals and Secret Valley Adventure Farm, cinemas, bowling and indoor adventure centres all nearby there is lots to keep the kids occupied if they tire of the beach!

The busy market town of New Ross is 9 km with a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants, bars and shops. On the quayside is a replica Famine Ship "The Dunbrody", open to visitors all year round making a memorable visit for adults and children. A database of emigrants/passenger lists is available in the visitor centre. Also open to visitors is the Ros Tapestry Exhibition, a wonderful set of locally designed and stitched tapestry panels depicting the colourful history of the New Ross area.

St. Mary's Abbey, Tintern Abbey, Dunbrody Abbey, Ballyhack Castle, Duncannon Fort and are just some of the antiquities open to the public in the area and well worth a visit!

However, if you don't have to do anything else but 'chill out' and relax in the cottage and garden if you prefer!
