Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

On the Atlantic coast, between the châteaux and the castles of the Loire Valley and the Bordeaux vineyards, lies Poitou-Charentes, one of the sunniest parts of the French western coast. Its mild climate - 2,250 hours of sunshine per year - makes it perfect for a visit any time from early spring to late autumn. A 300 mile-long coastline offers fine sandy beaches and is backed by fragrant pine forests.

Within a short drive of the world famous St Emilion château the region produces some of the best wines in France with the local 'producteurs' are only too pleased for you to visit and enjoy a tasting session. Cognac (an hour away) offers a further opportunity to sample local world famous brandy.

Also an hour away is Royan which has five beaches sheltered from the prevailing westerlies, ideal for bathers and all those who enjoy building sand castles - there is also an opportunity to enjoy the local fish restaurants and visit Royan's world famous Zoo.

Aubeterre Sur Dronne, which is a 40 minute drive away, is "one of the most beautiful villages in France". It has a vast Monolithic church carved into the cliffs.

Montguyon

Montguyon itself was originally a fortified castle town, now it is a bustling market town and on the first Wednesday of every month the streets are lined with stalls selling some fantastic fresh local produce. There is a lively Monday morning market each week in nearby Chalais where the English community gather together. Another good market to visit is in Coutras, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. During July & August you can enjoy a couple of night markets per week, one in Montendre on a Tuesday and the other on a Wednesday in Chevanceaux. There you can enjoy local food, wine, market stalls and entertainment for all the family.

Montguyon and the surrounding area offer a great choice of restaurants, bars, shops, bakers, butchers and banks.

On the outskirts of Montguyon there is a recreational lake (Beau Vallon), the water is very clean for swimming and boating. There is also a restaurant, snack bar and a children's play area.

Montguyon is ideally situated to explore the beauty of south west France.

In August there is a medieval celebration which is held every second weekend.

Close by there is a leisure park, "Le Paradou", at Parcoul, which is ideal for families. It boasts a beach lake with pedalo's, crazy golf, go- carting, trampolining, waterslide, billiards and table tennis to keep the kids happy and a bar and restaurant to keep the big kids happy. Admission is free.

Another local beach lake and restaurant at Guizengeard hosts jet skiing and Quad biking.

There is a Formula 3 race track and karting track and restaurant just opened this year, 2009, within 15mins of Les Chenes.

“absolutely fabulous”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

The villa was perfect, spotless and very well equipped. The pool was a welcome relief in the very hot weather that we had while we were there. The villas is situated in a beautiful, peaceful area, but very near to everything needed, i.e. large supermarket, fuel, banking facilities etc. There is much to see and do and lots to keep you entertained. As a rule we never holiday in the same place twice, but for this place we have made an exception - we have already booked to go back next year!!

“fantastic holiday villa with superb facilities”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2012

We are just back from our second consecutive visit to Les Chenes. Had a absolutely brilliant holiday at this gorgeous villa. The swimming pool was loved by our 4 year old son and our friends children who are 5 and 10. The games room is a excellent addition with table tennis, table football and multiple outdoor games. The kids loved the welcome presents waiting for them on arrival. All in all a lovely place to stay and would thoroughly recommend it
