Fawkes Perch is a self-contained studio apartment furnished in a contemporary style and located in the heart of West Mersea. The apartment is a 5 minute walk from the beautiful monkey beach, another 10 minutes and you’re in the Anchorage.

The self-contained apartment is below our own flat. The apartment is one large room, with a king size double bed and a large corner sofa-bed. The property is ideal for a couple but the sofa bed in the room which would be ideal for children but would be a bit cosy for four adults in the room unless you all knew each other really well! There is a lovely walk in shower and an ‘Elfin Kitchen’ located in the corner of the room with fridge, combi oven and two hotplates.

There are plenty of opportunities to eat out locally, the Art Café across the road serves a range of breakfasts lunches and afternoon teas. It is lovely stroll along the coast out to the famous Company shed passing many other options on the way. Or you could pick up a woodfired pizza from the new restaurant round the corner. The carnivore in our family raves about the butchers! The fish and chips are also popular – normally eaten on the beach.

There isn’t a garden, but like us we hope you will prefer to spend your evenings walking along the beach or enjoying a drink and the sea views at the local pub, both about 5 minutes walk. There is a table and chairs outside for alfresco dining and a communal space for BBQing.

We provide towels and bedlinen for the flat so all you need to pack are swimming costumes and beach towels. There will be fresh flowers, tea, coffee and milk all in place for your arrival. We aren’t always around but our friend lives locally and will provide her contact details so she can deal with any problems should they arise.

We’ve only recently discovered the delights of Mersea ourselves, and can’t believe it has taken us so long to discover this Essex gem. and find it difficult to get beyond the local beach as it is so beautiful. It is really accessible by public transport, a regular bus-service from Colchester stops metre from the apartment.

Parking for one vehicle is available – we’ll send details. Dinghy and secure cycle parking may be possible – please contact us.

There is level access throughout, although not designed for wheelchair users, please contact us to discuss if our apartment can meet your needs.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Gareth (the owner) a message.

If Gareth (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
