Location description from owner

The Rhône-Alpes region

AnnecyLocation DescriptionAnnecy is situated at the North West corner of the lake. Geneva is 50 km due north, Chamonix 70km due East, Lyon 120km south west, Albertville 50km south. The first thing you notice about Annecy is its vast turquoise lake. Its beauty has attracted people for centuries - there's been a settlement here since prehistoric times. Annecy lake feeds into a network of canals and the waterways lead you straight into the compact old town, which is overlooked by the towering Annecy Château. Following the canals is a good way of navigating the winding cobbled streets, which have hidden in their depths a 12th century palace, churches from the 15th and 17th centuries, and many cafés and restaurants.FacilitiesPromenade, port, museums, castle, cinema, railway station, parks, bus station, 2 public beaches, casino, galleries, boat trips on the lake, coach excursions to local places of interest.FestivalsFestivals Fete du Lac (1st Saturday in August), Music Festival (Old town early July) Animation film festival (late May), Bastille Day celebrations 14th July.ActivitiesGuided tours of AnnecyAnnecy Castle and MuseumAlpine Lake MuseumOld PrisonPalais de l'IleAlpine Miniature MuseumSaint-François de Sales MémorialHaute-Savoie Conservatory of Art and HistoryCruises on the lakeMarkets in the Old TownAntiques' Market

Menthon St Bernard

Menthon Saint BernardLocation descriptionThe village is positioned on the east shore of Lake Annecy 9 km from Annecy. The village is overlooked by the impressive Chateau du Menthon and the twin peaks of “Dents de Lanfon”. Much of the village itself is built on the relatively flat area by the lake making it easy for getting about on foot. Nearby places include Veyrier du Lac 3 km, Talloires 3 km, Roc du Cher 2 km, La Clusaz 22 km, Col de la Forclaz 10km.FacilitiesShops include a Boulangerie, Patisserie, General store, Newsagents, Pharmacie, Café de la Place, Supermarket, gift shops, bus stops and a petrol station. Eating out. Auberge des Dents de Lanfon, Chalet du Port, Vieux Savoyard, Pizzeria.Leisure facilitiesPromenade, port, boat stop, public beach, sailing club, tennis courts, cycle hire, hiking and mountain bike trails, tourist information, Chateau du Menthon, golf course at Roc du Cher, pony trekking.ActivitiesMenthon Castle, Ferme de Charbonnière (farmhouse), Cruises on Lake AnnecySkiing:The property is ideally placed with easy access to major ski resorts. The resort towns of Grand Bournard and La Clusaz are within 20 minutes drive of Maison Menthon, whilst Chamonix and Val D’Isere can be reached within an hour. Both Menthon and Annecy offer more relaxing evenings than the adrenaline fuelled après ski evenings traditionally associated with alpine resorts, and you can relax in the quiet bars and restaurants or even in the house itself which offers far more spacious accommodation than the typical alpine chalet.Much of the skiing in La Clusaz is suited to beginners and intermediates, with Beauregard particularly suited to beginners and young children.Advanced skiers will want to spend most of their time at La Balme, with its extensive off-piste opportunities. There is also the Asics Trail, a night-time downhill snow trail over the pistes of La Clusaz which is lit by torches.
