Location description from owner

The Kyrenia District

Girne is possibly the best holiday area on the island, bringing history to visitors while entertaining them. You can catch the nostalgia by visiting the historic places and travelling around its streets, sensing the smells of jasmine and orange blossom. You can taste its delicious cuisine in the plentiful restaurants and sip your coffee at coffee houses during summer evenings. Also in the harbour is Kyrenia Castle built by the Byzantines in the 7th century to protect the city from Arab raiders. It has apparently remained intact for centuries but has also been enlarged & better fortified over the last few hundred years. The northern Cyprus Region Climate: The winters in Northern Cyprus are mild and rarely extend beyond February and with over 300 days of sunshine a year, the temperatures can reach into the 30c as early as March. In April and May Cyprus is at its most beautiful with fields of wild flowers in full bloom and the weather is not unlike that of good English summer. July and August are the hottest months and ideal for sun worshippers. Not surprisingly September and October are the most popular months as the weather is still wonderfully warm (rarely below 30C), but the evenings are cooler. To get a taste of Cyprus 30 years ago you are advised to visit the Karpaz peninsula where time stands still. There are miles of sandy beaches with not a person in sight even in the summer. Ancient towns, basilicas, ruins and tombs scatter the area waiting to be explored. Be sure to visit the old dungeons in Famagusta and the ancient ruins at Salamis.

Lapta

Lapta Oceanside, is 9 miles (15 kms) from Kyrenia. Lapta strip is the main road through the town and offers bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes and hotels. Beaches are a principal attraction in North Cyprus, and vary widely in character from the busy Northern Cyprus hotel beaches, which offer many facilities, to the secluded stretches of sand in the Karpaz, where the visitor may have an entire beach to himself. North Cyprus beaches are a national heritage.
Water sports and scuba diving are available on some beaches in North Cyprus where professional tuition and supervision are on offer. In general, the beaches associated with Northern Cyprus hotels are kept clean and provide facilities such as toilets, sun loungers, parasols, bars and restaurants. Entrance fees vary. To name few beaches are close by: Incirli beach is a public beach which is the closest, within 5 mins walking distance. Also there are many other beaches next to the Incirli beach. Also another public beach is a Mare Monte which is managed by municipality which has showers, toilets, changing rooms with a bar for food and drink for very convenient prices.
Golden beach, Escape and Lapethos water park is within 2-3 min. drive. The old town is a popular retreat for expatriates.Lapta is also known as Lapithos.
