Location description from owner

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region

Cold winters with clear views, blue skies then dumping snow, spring flowers that bloom from the valley floor upwards over a 2 month period, a summer that can start when nature feels like it,autumn brings a colour and beauty that only the Alps can understand- temperatures range from -20C to 32C .

Full of history, the region of Savoie can offer what you want to get from it, sport, relaxation, beauty, heritage visits and a whole lot more, we are here to help you through the areas of your interests.

It's the best cycling area for the fanatical and the not so fanatical. On the doorstep you have access to the tough Tour du France climbs of Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de la Madeleine, Col du Telegraphe just to name a few.

La Lechere

Fontaine boasts that is 1 klm from the highest cross country ski area in Savoie, beautifully groomed runs to take your breath away. The local tourist office is available to rent you skis, raquettes, boots and a sledge to enjoy the area at its best. Over Febuary school holidays there is plenty going on to entertain all ages. We are on the doorstep to Val Morel and 3 Valleys ski areas, all just a 30 minute drive away.
In summer Fontaine has an annual Bread festival- July, the Mayor kneads and cooks the bread in the old ovens that once provided the 3 adjoining villages (Molencon, Grande Naves and Ronchat), each village use to take it in turn to keep the fire lit which was used for cooking bread and pastries.

There is also the Bio Veg Market "Courtis du la Haut"-September- held by the local gardeners, this is where you can buy their produce-all sorts of vegetables, delicious home made jams, cheeses, syrups, breads and this is finished with the traditional meal.
The tour du France come by the valley each passing year, so bring your bike and follow the pros.
There is a special history in this village, our local guide, Lucien Delapierre can take you through the historic Church and then down to the river through the ancient water mills, explaining how life use to be.

“Beyond our expectations”

Reviewed 15 Jan 2014

If you are looking for a luxurious place to stay in the French Alps, without breaking the bank, then this is it. The ultimate in both accommodations and food. Nikki and Hugh are the hosts, and speak both English and French. Nikki is a gourmet cook - each meal is Michelin three star quality. As well, there is a fully-equipped kitchen if you wish to prepare your own meals. There are plenty of activities in the area, some within walking distance, in all seasons, so that you are ready to once again relax and enjoy the evening fire with your companions. We stayed here for a week with our family at Christmas, and for several days with friends in the fall - everyone was truly blown away by the experience. We will definitely return. Having stayed at many B&B's, hotels, and resorts on many continents, this one is one of the very best.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your feedback, l hope to see you all again in the near future xx

“My two sons of 7 and 4 now want me to build a luxurious house and learn how to cook like aunty Nikki!!!”

Amazing experience in a luxurious, relaxing and down to earth atmosphere.. With two very active boys we kept busy and there is so much to do in such a quaint village. We cycled up to the top where we enjoyed the incredible views of the Alps and tucked into a very tasty picnic…..The boys loved the rock climbing in the village which was great for all levels. I thoroughly enjoyed the fab shopping in the valley. Spoilt again in the evening to a delicious meal and good wine…!! I would recommend the Chalet Savoie Faire to EVERYONE…

Owner's reply: Thanks for the lovely response, l could think of nothing better than to have the family back to play in the kitchen and climb the rock walls, See you again soon, Kind regards Nikki and Hugh

“Great chalet, great food, great walks, great views and great company ... We couldn't of asked for anything more”

Thank you Nikki and Hugh for a perfect 2 days. You were so welcoming, we felt at home from the moment that we arrived. And what a home! We stayed as part of our trip though Europe and on our travels we visited some great restaurants but I can honestly say that your beef bourguignon was the best meal that we ate!! . Thank you again - we can't wait to come back.
