Description

The Old Stable is a charming cottage with a private mature garden and a fantastic panoramic view of Lough Foyle, the North Coast and the Atlantic Ocean. The original house is over 100 years old and has been beautifully renovated in recent years. The traditional charm is preserved and modern conveniences added for comfort, includes central heating, a modern kitchen and a wood burning stove. This is an ideal holiday retreat for individuals, couples or a small family who value privacy and tranquility.

The garden is very peaceful and private, enjoy a barbecue or just take a seat outside and enjoy the magnificent view. Relax watching the boats going by or while listening to the sound of the small stream and the birds.

This is a great tour base for exploring the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula. A short (15 min) walk takes you to the Blue Flag Shroove Beach and Inish Head lighthouse, where you will find a beautiful sandy beach, with car park and toilet facilities. The beach is suitable for children, swimming activities and life guards are on duty during summer months.

The seaside villages of Greencastle and Moville offer nice restaurants, including the award winning Kealys Seafood restaurant. A friendly local pub is a 5 min walk away from the cottage and both Greencastle and Moville offer genuine Irish pubs, live music and summer festivals. Greencastle Golf Club is a beautiful 18 hole links course, visible from the house and only a 5 minute journey by car. From the house you can join the stunning Inishowen Head loop walk (8km) or from Greencastle join a beautiful shore walk to Moville (2km). Moville also offers sea kayaking and canoeing.

From April to September the Foyle car ferry service takes you from Greencastle to the scenic coast of Northern Ireland (15 mins journey) where children can enjoy an amusement park and sandy beaches. The famous Giant's Causeway and The Bushmills Distillery are approximately 1.5 hour car journey from the Old Stable. The Historic City of Derry is only a 30 min. drive away, hosting as the City of Culture 2013, including a varied program of arts and culture.

There is plenty of space for parking. We do not permit smoking in the Old Stable, we hope this consideration for others does not cause you much inconvenience.

“Perfectly placed, cosy cottage.”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

The Old Stable is beautifully presented and decorated. The view and positioning over looking the Loch is simply stunning. Only 5 minutes drive from Greencastle, where I enjoyed the best fish and chips I have ever had. Here is also the Foyle Ferry which was very handy. It only takes about 20 minutes from the cottage to walk down to a beautiful, golden sandy beach,at Stroove. I had a very enjoyable stay at The Old Stable, and may just return there in the future.

“Wonderful Relaxing Retreat”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2015

The old stables is a fabulous 1 bedroom cottage. We had our new baby and it was extremely well catered for with a cot, black out blind and changing mat. Very cosy with excellent facilities especially if you want to cook in which we did. Feels very rural but excellent walks to local beach Stroove and into Greencastle which has a shop, restaurant, couple of bars and a fish shop. Would highly recommend for a relaxing break and as a area to explore the Inishowen peninsula. Wonderful! Also excellence views over the Foyle.

“Prachtige vakantie in Inishowen”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2014

We verbleven in juli een week in The Old Stable in Inishowen.

“Peaceful retreat with fine views and pleasant garden”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2013

The accommodation is very good, comfortable with everything that you may need. It is, clean bright and spacious. An idyllic place for two people or family. The photos of the interior on the website did not do it justice. But one of the main features is the view across Loch Foyle which is stunning on a fine day.The mature garden is in a secluded area with facilities to eat outside. Very peaceful amd private. It is a very quiet location with several good walks in the vicinity- fine headlands and beaches. A car is essential in order to get around the peninsula and Derry/Londonderry is only about 30 minutes drive away. The city is worth a visit, being the city of culture for 2013. We would definately return here for another vacation. The proprietors were helpful and friendly.
