“Perfect location, spacious and clean”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2016

As three friends travelling together the large double and twin bedroom, bathroom with shower and toilet were perfectly adequate. For a larger group there is also a large room with a fold-down double bed with a separate smaller bathroom with a shower and toilet. The facilities also included a large lounge/dining/kitchen with hob, microwave and ample crockery and cutlery. There is also a washing machine outside the smaller bathroom. We were met promptly by Andrea who took time to tell us how to find the harbour, cable-car, Genovese and ethnic quarters, supermarket, and his recommended restaurants covering all budgets and tastes. These are within 2-15 minutes stroll of the apartment. The apartment is located right in the heart of the medieval part of Genoa. It overlooks a small piazza which has five streets going off it, each one leading to somewhere slightly different from the others in terms of style, shops, restaurants and attractions, so well worth a stroll down them all. Our routine for breakfast was to collect fresh warm focaccia from the Louigi at the coffee shop/bar in the piazza to go with locally bought cold meat, cheese and tomatoes and as he never seemed to closed, enjoy an espresso and a last drink on our way home from dinner. We ate out every night as it was really good value for money but there are many food outlets and even a Chinese takeaway within minutes of the apartment for anyone preferring self-catering. The people were so friendly wherever we went and with everything virtually on our doorstep we soon settled in and got our bearings. We did get lost one day on our walks and ended up in the new part of the city. It was big and busy with lots of designer shops but not enough character. We were glad to get back to where we were staying as it definitely felt like going home. The only thing to note is that in this medieval part of the city you get to experience the amazing Genoese history, architecture and way of life but the downside is that the buildings do not have lifts. As this apartment is on the third floor, like many others it would not be suitable for people with mobility problems. If you get a taxi from the train station or airport give them Best Western Potico as the destination as ours was not sure if he could drive to the apartment as the streets are narrow. The apartment is just behind the hotel. We would definitely recommend it as perfectly located, spacious and clean good value accommodation. A perfect base to explore this wonderful city.

“Great place, well positioned and close to action !”

Thanks Andrea, We enjoyed our stay at your facilities and had good time in Genoa. The only drawback is the third bed (wall bed) which isn't very confortable for 2 adults !

“Stylish, comfortable, clean”

Reviewed 20 Oct 2014

This flat is in a brilliant location: the almost car-free historic Genoa old town, very close to local amenities including food shops, restaurants, cafes etc. Within walking distance of the old-town sights and the harbour, and close to bus-stops if you're going further afield. [Taxis seem abundant also.] The flat is two floors up, no lift, and we were absolutely OK with that. The flat is immaculate and very stylishly-decorated, a pleasant place to be based for our busy holiday. 3 bedrooms/ 2 showerrooms (one ensuite). One of the beds is folded down from the wall - we didn't need to fold it back up but I daresay you could. There is air-con which we didn't need since we went in the autumn, but I can imagine it would be very welcome in the height of summer. The kitchen area is compact but well-equipped with a four-ring hob, electric kettle, no oven but a combined microwave/grill, and we were perfectly able to produce good family meals for the 5 of us. The dishwasher is a blessing. Nice big fridge as well, and the dining table extends to a good size, we kept it extended for our whole stay. Great bakery downstairs in the square, great poulterer, great fruit and veg shop around the corner, butcher and supermarket also. Washing machine opposite one of the bathrooms and a clever clothesline out the window We saw the owner when we arrived and he was friendly and helpful. There is WiFi in the flat which was useful for train-times etc., and we enjoyed using the TV news to try and improve our Italian ...! The flat is in general extremely well-equipped but if I could change one thing I would have a bigger coffee pot. It's a typical italian espresso-maker and we like a long coffee - which we got by making it very strong and then adding hot water from the kettle... So nothing we couldn't work around. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property, we had a really nice holiday.

Christine, having you here was a great pleasure. I am really looking forward to having you again one day

“fantastic location”

We stayed in this apartment for six nights (5 adults/teenagers) and thoroughly enjoyed it! fantastic location in the middle of the old part of town and within walking distance to a lot of the sites of Genoa! Great stay! We hope to come back soon!

Thank you for your nice review but must of all thank you for your stay in this new flat. I am happy you enjoyed at best the apartment and the location. Looking forward to having you as a guest. Sincerely, Andrea

“If I would purchase the flat in Genoa, I would purchase this one...”

We met the host at the train station and felt like we know him a long time. The way to the flat was not long , but magnificent: statue of Columbus, old Palace, University, Church and we are at home. We came late in the evening and decided to walk for half an hour to see what is nearby of our flat. In 2 minute we were at the old port, big wooden ship, aquarium , in 7 minutes we were at the funicular and saw the whole Genoa in the night - beautiful... Everything, what you can need, you will find at your new home: nice design of every room ( three bedrooms and sitting room), internet, dishwasher, washing machine, iron, fan, all things to prepare wonderful supper . It is very convenient to have two bathrooms, we were 5 adults, so you must not wait, till everyone has a shower in the same bathroom. What to speak, come and live here...

Thank you for your nice review but must of all thank you for your stay in this new flat. I am happy you enjoyed at best the apartment and the location. Looking forward to having you as a guest. Sincerely, Andrea

“A comfortable and well-located apartment”

Reviewed 25 May 2014

Casa Acquario Acqua Marina is a recently renovated 3rd floor apartment near the port and acquarium. It overlooks a small square in the old part of Genova. The location is great for sightseeing - most sights are within walking distance - and it is convenient to the main train station for day trips to Portofino, the Cinque Terre, etc. There are also lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars close by. It is a tightly packed and close-knit residential area and several (mainly pedestrian) streets feed into the square, making it a busy, colourful and interesting space. The apartment itself has been nicely refurbished. It has two comfortable bedrooms and another small room with a fold-down bed. It has two modern bathrooms which, although small, are functional. The apartment has a combined lounge, dining area and kitchenette which is pleasant but somewhat compact and would be cramped for a group. The apartment has all new appliances including a washing machine and a dishwasher. It has internet access and air conditioning. Unfortunately the apartment block doesn't have an elevator so consider whether you are happy to climb three sets of stairs. Also, the area is old so be prepared for shabby buildings, odd smells and not the cleanest of streets. There is some noise from the nearby restaurants in the square in the evening but it quietens down reasonably early. The apartment is a little dark and doesn't get any sunshine but it is quite airy and pleasant. Overall, we felt the positives out-weighed the negatives and we enjoyed our stay in the apartment . The host Andrea was always very helpful and attentive and was pleasant to deal with.

Dear Helen, I am pleased you like your stay in Genova. Regarding your comments, you have consider Genova is a Medieval city with centuries of history at its back, finding an elevator here is almost impossible - I guess it is not necessary explain the reasons - Regarding the light, again, in a city build by many small alleys, where building are one close to the other - in the last centuries this was a trick to flight against the enemy - one cannot find plenty of sun light and Casa Aquario is actually receiving quite a lot if light to be in the hearth of the old city thanks the two big windows facing in the square. Some noise is normal, we are not in the country side, but as yourself wrote, at a few steps from every where. For sure there is not the cars noise being the flat in a walking area, regarding people talking or every day smells, well, it means the city is lively and to my point if you is more then welcome. Thanks again for your stay. Best, Andrea
