You will love it here, and you will have a great place at an excellent price in an area of rural Costa Rica that is authentic and unspoiled. Your water comes from a spring 2 miles in the jungle. It is pure and perhaps the best you have ever had. The air you breathe is generally blowing through 50 miles of jungle...areas with no cities, factories and no contamination. Beef here is grass fed, chickens free range. Many of the veggies are organic. The fruit is unbeatable.
We are not kid-friendly, pets not allowed, smoking not allowed. If you smoke on the terrace or in the house, your security deposit in full will NOT be refunded. Just a heads up.
Sometimes we are in Costa Rica, staying at White Hawk. When we are, we are there to help with any questions you may have. We can help with reservations for things to do and places to see. We will help in any way we can, but only when you want help or information. When we are not here, Laughing Falcon is managed by our friend Kelly. He is available by WhatsApp or you can go down our hill to his restaurant, La Ventanita. He will help with anything, just as we do. And before you come we will send you 4 letters about driving here, directions to get to our house from either airport, driving hints, weather info, what to wear, money and more. A second letter will tell you about renting a car and what kind of car to be sure to rent. A third letter will list many things to do and places to go, so you can plan your trip well before you arrive, and the final letter will give you nearby places to eat...all within a short drive...and one you can easily walk to if you wish.
The neighborhood
You will be able to do most anything this part of Costa Rica is famous for within a 30 to 40 minute drive. Zip Line...the best anywhere. Hanging Bridges...Amazing. Butterfly Conservancy, one of the only ones in the world that actually raises all of its butterflies. Hot Springs...perhaps the best in Costa Rica, and all within easy driving distance from here. Horse-back Riding...right up the hill. A local Art Gallery and vegan restaurant, right here. Hiking trails....close by, from very difficult to easy. Your choice. Kayaking on a lake...right here. Climb to a lake filled extinct volcano...right here. Tube a white water river...right here. Remember, you can walk to our private waterfall right from the house and be one of a very limited number of people in the world who have visited that particular one. The rivers that split into a "V" by the waterfall...these are the rivers that lull you to sleep from the apartment. There is so much to do you could spend a week and only dent the surface. Many birds are right here, you often hear both Howler Monkeys and Spider monkeys in the surrounding jungle.
We are in an area where only a few speak English, but somehow everyone gets by. We will tell you about great breakfast, lunch and dinner places, a nearby place to buy groceries so you can cook your own meals. In El Castillo about 10 minutes away, you will find a small grocery store, several restaurants, a church, a snake zoo, a butterfly conservancy, an art gallery/bakery and views as you drive up the mountain you can only imagine.

You will want a 4WD vehicle. The roads to our home are gravel and rock. When it rains there are potholes. You will be a lot happier with a small 4WD here and in most areas of Costa Rica.
Other things to note
From your rental you will be able to access our Tropical garden with banana trees, coffee, pineapples, mangoes, and many flowering shrubs and jungle plants. There is the Rio Trail to Walden Falls, our private waterfall here where guests see monkeys about 60% of the time.
