“Amazing Lake and Volcano Views” My 2 sons (18 and 20) and I spent 4 days at allan Rudick's Birdsong Villa. What a wonderful experience. The incredible lake and volcano views are just that. When you wake in the morning, if lying on your back in bed, as you open your eyes you are looking right at arenal volcano through the huge glass windows. Roll your head left and you are overlooking the lake. You will not get this in La Fortuna. Bed is very comfortable too. No a/c necessary, lake and mountains keep it cool.Allan's genuine consideration for his guests and Odelies cooking (love the bananas at breakfast)are the X-factor. He makes you right at home from the moment you shake his hand. Its like you have traveled to stay with a family member. He will give you as much privacy as you want or hang out with you like a friend staying in his house. He is great for advice and will help you with whatever you need. It is probably best to have a car if staying here if you wish to tour. If you need rides, Bernardo was very accomidating - Allan will hook you up. Visit Pizza John's once and chat with him. Horse back riding/waterfall hike with Charlie (5 minute walk from birdsong) was alot of fun.
There is also a hike right out the front door to a very private and romantic 15 ft waterfall with a swimming hole. The pictures are a little old. The walkways are all lined with beautiful flowers and butterfly bushes. Butterflies every day. We saw monkeys twice and one morning there were 6 toucans in the trees. There is also a volcano/wildlife observation deck at the base of the property where I had my morning coffee in search animal life. The view from Birdsong is nothing but nature and very peaceful. Allan also likes to call his guests before arival so his communication is excellent.
“Perfectly enchanting!” We stayed here for three nights in February 2013 as part of a 12-day trip to Costa Rica. It was the first leg of our journey, and it was fabulous. Located at the top of a mountain, in a secluded setting, the hacienda has beautiful landscaping and wonderful patio areas where you can sit in the evening, enjoy a beverage and listen to the sounds of the jungle. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was very nice and the kitchen was fine, but it was those patio areas around the home that we enjoyed most. And we also enjoyed the resident cats, who spent their evenings on our laps. At Nita's recommendation, we did a horseback riding trip to a private waterfall with Lelander, a local man who raises apaloosas. The ride and the swim were spectacular. We also got connected with Miguel, a Venice native who lives in the village and took us on a hike in the rainforest. And for dinner, we dined twice at Pizza Johns. The pizza is fabulous, but even better, we got to sit and talk and drink with Pizza John, who was delightful. If we make it back to Costa Rica, we'll definitely be staying here again. Note: you will need a SUV to get to the hacienda. It's at the top of a mountain with a very steep and rough road.
