Description from owner

Description

Le Point is a small charming and comfortable artist's house in the unspoilt village of Cucuron which lies inside the Luberon Nature Park in the Provence region of the south of France, 35Km north of Aix-en-Provence.

Cucuron has many original medieval features to explore and a traditional market on Tuesdays around the bassin (large carp pond) and square which is shaded by towering, 200-year-old plane trees. The village includes a cooperative wine cellar where local wines can be tasted and where a walking trail starts and you can discover the wine-growing activity around the area from a historical standpoint.

It is located half way between Avignon and Aix and makes an ideal base for exploring Provence or just to relax and unwind at any time of the year. There is riding or hiking from the village up into the Luberon and scenic lake swimming at the nearby Etang de la Bonde. In the summer there are numerous festivals and cultural events to enjoy nearby.

The house is ideal for a couple or small family but please note that the ancient stone stairs to the first floor are quite steep so it would not be suitable if you have issues with mobility.

Location description from owner

The Luberon region

Part of Provence, the Luberon is truly beautiful and notable for its fascinating perched hill-top villages (Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lourmarin, Gordes etc), outstanding natural produce, vineyards, lavender and orchards, arts and crafts and the light of Van Gogh and Cezanne. It is also known for its markets which are popular with locals and tourists, and most of them are year-round, adding colour and vitality to every village. They tend to be larger in the summer. Combining a morning at the market with lunch in a favourite restaurant is a great way to spend a half-day.

Cucuron

Cucuron is a small unspoilt village situated at the foot of the southern slopes of the Luberon range.

It is still almost entirely agricultural, and is surrounded by some fields of wheat and fruit trees, but increasingly with the advent of the appellation for Côtes du Luberon, by vineyards.

A special feature of the village is the old carp pond surrounded by plane trees where the weekly market is held on Tuesdays. It was featured in the 2005 film 'A Good Year in Provence'.

The local tourist office in Cucuron has good information and maps of walks and mountain bike routes on the Luberon. The Etang de la Bonde three miles away is a popular bathing lake, suitable for adults and small children, and there is an excellent swimming pool open in the summer at the nearby town of Pertuis (divided into a shallow pool for children and a larger adult pool.)

The most interesting villages near Cucuron are Ansouis, where the chateau is open for visits and Lourmarin, where the chateau hold art exhibitions. Further afield is the small town of Apt on the other side of the Luberon, with an ancient cathedral and good shops for Provencal materials and pottery, and the antique dealers Isle sur la Sorgue near Cavaillon. Roman Provence is accessible by car, (St Rémy, Arles, Nimes and the Pont du Gard to the south, Orange and Vaison la Romaine to the North) as is the Camargue, with the crusader port of Aigues Mortes, and further inland, the fortified village of Les Baux.
