Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Often referred to as the Jewel of the Cote Vermeille, Collioure is situated in the very south of France about 30 km from the Spanish border where the Pyrenees Mountains reach down to touch the Mediterranean Sea. This historic little village is one of the sunniest in all of France, boasting more than 300 days of sunshine annually. It is a vibrant town that dates back centuries and preserves much of its Catalan roots through its food, art and culture.

Collioure

Collioure preserves its heritage and sense of community well. Start your day with a cup of steaming java at a neighbourhood café accompanied by a traditional fresh baguette. Spend your Wednesday or Sunday morning at the downtown market meandering amongst the stalls of fresh fruits and vegetables, exotic meats, fragrant cheeses and colourful Catalan crafts. Walk around the ancient streets of the old town, and admire the historical architecture. Visit with local artisans around every nook and cranny. End your day at a seaside bar sipping one of the many Collioure vintages, feasting on the local cuisine while listening to the enchanting melodies from local street musicians, as the sun sets dramatically over the Mediterranean at your feet.

“Lovelly villa with character in beautiful town”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2016

Situated in an excellent position in the beautiful seaside town of Collioure the Chateau de Rocasse is comfortable and well equipped with genuine French character . Restaurants in the town are excellent and the views around the bays and surrounding hills are amazing. The location is very good for trips into the Pyrenees and the coast road into mainland Spain is wonderful.

“This is the perfect apartment if you are planning to visit Collioure.”

We stayed at Chateau de la Rocasse for six and a half weeks in February and March 2016. Firstly, the location is perfect. Located in the old town, you are steps from everything - in the centre of the action during the day but quiet at night. We were able to walk a few blocks to the butcher, the baker, the supermarket and our favourite cafes and restaurants. We had originally planned to rent a car but the train and bus service are such that we were able to do without. Secondly, you will seldom find an apartment with so much usable space. The pictures do not do it justice. Two separate bedrooms in different areas, a very usable kitchen, a shower/tub room and a seperate toilet room are very convenient for a family or two couples. The living room is spacious and comfortable. We have rented many places in France and Kim and Denis are the most gracious and helpful hosts we have encountered. She was readily available by email, to answer all questions.

“Perfect apartment for a family or friends getaway”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2015

Collioure is a fantastic town to visit even in Christmas. The "Cour de Noël" in the Castle (Château Royal) is really stunning. The apartment is rustic but really charming. All amenities (tv, dvd, wifi) were updated, and the location is the most remarkable. In less than a minut from the beach, in the middle of downtown, really beaty spot. So I rated it whith 5/5

“Spacious apartment containing everything you need located on the beach surrounded by fabulous restaurants and shops.”

Chateau de la Rocasse is a spacious two bedroom apartment complete with everything you need to enjoy your stay at Collioure. The furnishings are comfortable and appear to be relatively new. There is a desk in the living room perfect for keeping travel documents and electronics handy. WiFi is included which consistenly provides a strong signal. While we preferred to eat out to enjoy the multitude of fabulous restaurants (all within a few steps or short walk from the apartment), the kitchen contains everything you need to cook a meal or prepare snacks. Since there is a modern laundry washer/dryer unit, you don't need to pack additional clothes. The local bus costs only 1 Euro which we took often to visit the other towns in the area. You can even get back on the bus for no additional cost if you ride within 2 hours of purchasing your ticket. There is plenty to do during your stay such as exploring the outdoor market, enjoying freshly roasted sardines or tasting locals wines. All of this is just a few minutes from the apartment. For a small fee, you can take the little train high up the hills for a spectacular view of the area or walk up to the Moulin Collioure, There are lots of other activities available depending upon your interests and physical abilities. I personally know the owners of this apartment who have put a lot of thought and consideration into their property to ensure each and every guest has the best vacation possible.

“Wonderful Stay!”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

Collouire is a beautiful little town and Chateau de la Rocasse is at its heart down on the harbor. The accomodation is in a renovated historical building. Tastefully decorated and very comfortable with all the conveniences of home. It's one of those places you don't want to leave and after four nights we felt we could have stayed longer. We travel a lot and Collouire itself is a precious little jewel with views from the harbor you will long remember. You must visit if in this part of France and Chateau de la Rocasse is the perfect place to unwind and explore the area during your stay.

“Wonderful stay by the Sea!”

Wake each morning to the sun coming up over the sea. Sit in the front courtyard with coffee and watch the waves. Walk around the historic church to a sandy beach or hike through vineyards to historic forts with panoramic views. No wonder Matisse and so many loved this beautiful natural port. The food, shopping, wine, sites and the apartment are all superb. Thanks to the Gervais'

“Lovely apartment in a fabulous location.”

Reviewed 1 Jan 2015

We really enjoyed our stay in this well maintained apartment which is in pretty much the most perfect position in Collioure that you could wish for; by the sea (50 metres from the port beach), 20 metres from the nearest restaurants and only 100 metres or so from the centre. Despite that it is quite quiet. A perfect base for exploring this jewel of a town and the beautiful countryside around it. We swam in the sea each morning before breakfast and each evening before walking to dinner. Fabulous! On top of that the owners are extremely responsive and very helpful; booking was a very easy and pleasant experience. The only slight downsides are that you cannot park close by to drop off your cases (though you can to pick them up in the morning) and that the second bedroom has no windows to the outside, but neither worried us unduly and the upsides more than compensated. We look forward to being able to visit again one day and thoroughly recommend it to others.

“A Gem in the South of France”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2014

Our family of 4 was heading through the south of France on our way to Barcelona. As we planned our route, we quite accidentally discovered Collioure! Everything went very smoothly with Kim from the beginning. She is fast to communicate with all the necessary information and answered all of our questions. The apartment is in a fabulous location - just steps to the beautiful Mediterranean. We could hear the waves coming into the shore in the evening...just loved it! Everything at the flat was ready to go the moment we arrived in the early afternoon. The beds were clean and comfortable, the family room well prepared for a relaxing evening or rainy day with DVDs and books, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to get started. There were also lovely personal touches which really added to our feeling of being relaxed and comfortable. Kim provided a binder with detailed information and recommendations for the town and surrounding area. It was very helpful in planning our stay and making the most of our holiday. In town we visited: The Church of Notre Dame des Anges (right outside the front door!), Collioure’s Royal Castle, and the Collioure Anchovie Factory. We also took the short walk up to the Moulin, and then made our way to the top of the hill to the Fortress of Saint Elme where we were rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the town and surrounding area. We also took the short 1-hour drive to Carcassonne to visit the medieval town and castle there, and were amazed at the quality of the conservation of the various sites…another recommendation from Kim! Overall, our stay in Collioure was amazing! We really want to thank Kim and Denis for providing us with a place that is in a great location, a beautiful and comfortable space and a real feeling of being at home while on the road! We would definitely go back again!

“APPARTEMENT IDEALEMENT SITUE”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

“Location, location”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2014

Amazing location in the beautiful town of Collioure. The owner was great to deal with, both with booking and troubleshooting. The apartment, on the doorstep of the Mediterranean, was well appointed and close to all facilities in the town. An amazing town to explore, and also a great base for exploring the wider area.
