Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Segonzac is in the heart of the cognac grape growing region. There is a small supermarket (open on a Sunday morning) in the town, 2.5km from the property). Larger hypermarkets can be found on the outskirts of Cognac. The surrounding area is undulating and ideal for walks through the vines. Cognac houses abound throughout the area and visits can be arranged should you wish to sample, and possibly purchase, some of the excellent cognac produced in the area. Cognac old town is delightful. There are narrow, winding, cobbled streets to stroll around, perhaps finishing the tour with a picnic on the riverside. The Charente passes through Jarnac, just ten minutes away, where you can hire canoes or take a leisurely trip down the river. The coast is about an hour's drive away, as is Aubeterre with its amazing monolithic church and the vineyards of St Emilion are about 90 minutes away. Summer days are usually long and hot as the region has its own micro climate.

Cognac

There are many festivals which take place in the area, throughout the year. During the summer months there is a host of musical events, together with local flea markets. Cognac is home to the famous 'Blues Passion' in July and musical events take place throughout the town during that period.

“Comfortable Tasteful Gite with every you would need for a great holiday”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2013

We stayed with Yvonne and John, the English owners in January 2013 and were very impressed with their Gite. It is very well furnished with everything you would need for a great holiday. The pool was fantastic although we did not use it as it was in January so a little cold. The gardens are beautiful and the Zen garden was a lovely private area to sit and read and enjoy the sun. The Charente is extremely pretty with rolling hills and many Vineyards. We will certainly be visiting this lovely Gite again. Thank you for a lovely stay.
