Description

The Villa is an old country residence settled on an estate of 26,000 sqm, a large and secret garden paradise containing groves of olive, and many others trees. It is located about just 6 km from the historic centre of the charming, age-old Norman town of Cefalu, and combines the natural scenic beauty and peacefulness of the countryside with direct access to the sea.

The Villa is very quiet and peaceful for most of the year, although in the summertime the beach attracts many visitors for its natural beauty, its soft sands and its safe bathing: this is Salinelle beach, among the most scenically beautiful of Cefalu. The area offers markets, pizzerias, restaurants, pubs, beach lidos, to mention just a few of the offerings available.

Location description from owner

The Sicily region

The special geographic position of Cefalu means that you have easy access to all the main areas of historical and cultural interest in Sicily, by going on excursions lasting no more than 2 hours.

Mount Etna, Taormina, Acireale and Catania and Siracusa (Unisco World Heritage Site), are about 2 hours away; the stunning and famous Greek temple and theatre at Segesta, and the Roman Villa of Casale at Piazza Armerina (also a World Heritage Site) are just 1.5 hours away; the artistic and archaeological treasures of Palermo, Monreale, Tindari are less than an hour away; the Madonne mountain range, a natural asset jealously guarded by Sicilians, with its dramatic hilltop villages like Castelbuono, Isnello and Gratteri are just half an hours distance.

And you will be surprised to discover that each year brings widespread snow, and you can ski at Piano Battaglia, located further inland in the Madonie.

Cefalu

But the real pearl is Cefalu, with its fabulous scenic panoramas and the town itself, which arose out of fishing and navigation, with which divinities, kings and adventurers all fell in love, from the ancient Goddess Diana to the Norman King Roger, and for you also it is certain to be an experience of love at first sight!

Charming and romantic restaurants abound, both here and in the neighbouring towns and villages, offering the finest traditional Sicilian food and wine, both of high quality and value.

During the high summer season the area – which attracts many visitors as do all of the fine beaches of Cefalu, offers a full array of enjoyable recreational activities, and the low season is a time to appreciate the peace and quiet of the countryside, which you will have all to yourselves.

Within easy reach are a variety of sports facilities such as tennis, golf, horse-riding etc, located under 5 km away. At a large nearby hotel you can avail of a waterpark and a wellness centre.

On the beach you can take on the more energetic sports of kite surfing or windsurfing, or you can take a short trip in a sailing boat like the Fly Junior or the Laser1, available to residents, or if you prefer there is the more relaxing option of a canoe trip to scout out the beautiful Cefalu coast.

“The perfect holiday”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2012

A great villa to stay with friends and family, close to the beach, independent and well equipped, safe and great for the kids and young children. In a beautiful garden and only a 2min walk to the beach! In the middle of nature but only a 5min drive to the cute Cefalù town centre, easy park in front of the house, what else do you need? Nothing!

“Heavenly spot - loved every moment!”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2011

La Piana is set on a few acres of pure, unspoilt nature, right beside the sea and about 7km from a bustling little town. Our cottage was basic but spotlessly clean and complete with everything we needed. The owner was incredibly good to us, he couldn't do enough to help make our stay perfect. Incredibly friendly people all round (we were even invited to a local pizza evening!) but they are very relaxed and leave you alone to enjoy the place by yourself. It's about a 7 min walk to the train that passes for Palermo every hour or so, so we did a day trip to visit the cathedrals, magnificent! We rented a car the rest of the time and got around easily, parked in the SIDAS supermarket in Cefalu and did our walk around the beautiful historic centre before picking up a few groceries (really fresh fruit and veg) and going back to our haven beside the water and lemon trees. Took a trip up to the gorgeous Castlebuono and did a walk in the madonie another day. We left early and got back for a swim by the time it was too warm. This is an excellent place for people who want to relax to the max but swim and explore the surrounds in their own time - it's different type of holiday to being in the centre of a town, much more laid back - especially if you have wheels to go out to the people whenever you want. One week isn't enough though (we stayed ten days). I couldn't recommend the place highly enough, we have already booked again for next year, this time for two and a half weeks - can't wait!

“attractive, quiet cottage by the sea immersed in greenery”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2011

The Gelso cottage is a lovely quiet cottage immersed in pines, Mulberry, and other trees and vegetation, situated about 60m from the beach. The spacious land, which contains several cottages and one villa, is sandwiched between sea and mountain, quite a dramatic vista from the beach. The cottage is well-kept and clean, all utilities work reliably. My wife and I came here last May 2011 for several weeks, and while it took us about a week to wind down, we were completely de-stressed after a fortnight. There is an easy-going atmosphere here, helped by the owner who is cordial and helpful, and on hand during the day. There are other cottages on the land too, which we have stayed in during previous years. The Gelso cottage is 3 mins walk from a pizzeria and 4 mins walk from an elegant beach bar with great food, cocktails and staff. Definitely recommend to anyone as a good place to chill out for a week or two. Or four...
