A car is recommended during your stay. There are many interesting and pretty places to visit nearby by car. We recommend taking the train to Edinburgh or Glasgow to avoid parking in the city centre. Parking is easily available at our local train stations which are 8 miles from the property.

“Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings”

The cottage at Ampherlaw Farm was a true delight. Very comfortable and well equipped. The welcome hamper of groceries was lovely. We especially enjoyed the very local eggs. The cat was very friendly as well, came out to greet us and be fussed a couple of times. When we has a problem with our car the owners were very helpful, loaning a piece of equipment to help us inflate the tyres. Carnwath village is not impressive but there are lots of other places nearby which are lovely and the cottage was truly lovely.

I had just what I wanted a fabulous setting, set up for Xmas, near to family and friends and a wonderful location. I will definitely be coming back - many times I hope.

“What a find!”

The facilities and welcome from Cass at Ampherlaw Farmhouse were outstanding. We stayed in six self-contained cottages during our recent visit to UK and they ranged from 'good' to 'excellent'. Ampherlaw was tops! Let's be honest - Carnwath itself is nothing to write home about. But there are such beautiful places to visit in the area, Biggar, New Lanark and Peebles being outstanding examples. Do remember though, you MUST have a car.

Yes, a car is a must living 3 miles from the nearest town, although there are train links available close by to get to Edinburgh and Glasgow for those who prefer not to drive into the cities. We simply loved our time at the farm house. Cass and Charlie are excellent hosts. The accommodation is simply beautiful. The local towns make an interesting visit and the shopping centre at Livingstone is enough to satisfy any retail junkie! We would love to return and stay again.
