The Province of Leinster region

Less than an hours drive from Ireland's two major cities, Carlingford nestles between Slieve Foy, Carlingford Lough and the Mourne mountains. A unique blend of natural beauty, spectacular panoramas, myths & legends combine with a modern day cultural infrastructure.

This medieval village offers something for everyone, trekking and adventure activities, water sports, golf, fishing, walking, cycling and horseriding. Its restaurants are recognised for their quality and the variety of food on offer particularly local fare which include the world famous Carlingford oysters.

Carlingford is 1 hour from Belfast's two airports and ferries on the M1/A1 and 1 hour 15 from Dublin Airport straight up the M1 and is well serviced by trains and bus's via Newry and Dundalk.

Carlingford

Carlingford is situated at the tip of the Cooley peninsula in a sheltered cove within Carllingford Lough. The region also has a number of important pre-historic and medieval sites, especially within the confines of Carlingford itself. For instance, the village itself is dominated by the remains of King Johns Castle, the first major construction in Carlingford's history built in the twelfth century. Other fine examples of religious and secular buildings dating from the twelfth century onwards can also be seen in the village.

Carlingford has a deserved reputation for hospitality, with some of the finest restaurants and friendliest pubs in Ireland, it also offers a wonderful array of finest quality accommodation from hostels to hotels and a multitude of different things to do.
