Description from owner

The cottage was completely refurbished in 2012 so everything is new
It is right in the heart of the Normandy countryside with views over open fields and the owners horses can be seen grazing.
The cottage is in a very quiet location with lots of lovely walks through woods, but there are three towns nearby.
The first is Broglie which is about 5k away which boasts a very good bakers and butcher. It also has a bar and cafe with seating outside on a decked area.
The next town of Orbec is about 7k and has good restaurants bars and good shops and a large supermarket.
The largest of the towns is Bernay which is a medieval town of great importance and has many shops and again good restaurants and bars and a cinema. It has a large train station where you can catch a train to Paris which takes about 1 hour 15mn.

“Perfect family getaway for the price”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2019

To be frank my wife and I blanched at the cost of flying to Greece - now we have two little ones - and wanted a place with a pool that was driveable and perfectly set up for a family. The Stables really delivered. Fabienne was always swift to respond in excellent English and left us a generous welcome gift of wine and chocolates on arrival - and was amenable to us turning up earlier than the listed arrival time. It was a three hour drive from Calais. The property is a former stables converted to a gite. It’s surrounded by pasture for horses and chickens. It’s not overlooked - except for a tack room that borders onto the parking area. However, even that was only used once a day by one person. The pool is perfect for splashing and cooling down but not much more if you’re a grown up - but it was perfected for our eldest to practice swimming in. The gite clean and tidy and has a lovely welcoming feel. The kitchen is well equipped with a decent finish and some nice touches - the Nespresso machine got heavily used; it was great to have extra bowls and cups for the kids; the dishwasher and microwave were in good working order but there’s no dryer - although there’s a useful drying rack for the patio. The living area worked well and the shaded table on the patio out front got well used, as did the little Weber barbecue. You’ll need to pick up charcoal. We didn’t use the telly but it was a decent size and had a Sky box set up with it. There’s a mini hifi with an enjoyably random collection of cds and games in the cupboard below. The bathroom is downstairs is perfectly serviceable. The two bedrooms and third twin landing bedroom area are upstairs. They can get a bit hot but there are fans for that. The cot was great for our smallest and thoughtfully set up for arrival. You might bang your head a bit but - first world problems. The place would also work really well for a group of mates getting away. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and the thoughtful touches about the place - posh candles to burn; a great library of English language novels and enough English language dvds to get through a rainy day. The only tiny negative I can think of is with so many horses nearby you’ll want to take some fly spray and citronella candles for the evening. Merci bien a vous Fabienne!
