Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Nestled in the heart of the Deux-Sevres region of Western France, known as one of France's 'Best Kept Secrets'.

The Deux-Sevres is the tranquil, laid back, unspoilt department of the Poitou-Charentes, the area has a mild micro-climate and is deemed to be the second sunniest region in France, benefitting from the warmth of the La Rochelle basin. It is filled with lazy winding rivers and is a region truly dedicated to relaxing. Beautiful countryside in all directions and traffic free roads to go and explore.

Deux-Sevres is bordered by Charente Maritime with its beautiful beaches - La Rochelle, Royan and the Ile d'Oleron and the Vendee with Sales d'Olonnes and many other seaside resorts dotted along the coastline.

The Marais Poitevin - Green Venice is a maze of waterways and luxuriant vegetation. There are many villages, tow paths and quay side. Coulon is cited as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Take a trip on a guided punt or be more adventurous and go it alone! (45 mins)

Puy du Fou - In a picturesque park of over 40 hectares, experience the invasion of a Viking camp, watch gladiators chariot racing in a roman amphitheatre. Enjoy breathtaking displays of falconry, jousting, horse riding acrobatics and much more. During July and August there is a spectacular open night show - not to be missed. (35 mins)

Futuroscope - A hi-tech experience with adventures on land, sea and in outer space using the latest projection system technology. The only leisure park of its kind in Europe with films in giant format, thrill-filled attractions, 3D rides with 4D effects, games, live shows and open air activities. (50 mins)

The Loire Valley - Famous for its chateaux and wines, the Loire Valley offers also some exceptional scenery. Some towns to visit are Saumur with the Cadre Noir (National School of Horsemanchip). Chinon and its medieval castle. Also the unique gardens of Villandry. (45 mins)

The area is steeped in history and offers unspoilt landscapes and some of Europe's most imposing Tumuli, Romanesque churches, chateaux and museums. The quiet roads willl lead you to unexpected places, rivers, lakes, forests, historic towns, small villages with colourful markets and during the summer months a range of festivals and events.

La Belle Echappee is situated 5 minutes walk from the picturesque village of Faye L'Abbesse with its very friendly locals. The village has a bar-restaurant, small supermarket, post office, pharmacy, boulangerie and hairdresser.

The nearest town of Bressuire is 10 km and is a very warm and friendly town with numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets, discos and bars and a twice weekly market. There is also an ancient Chateau (originating from the 11th Century) and a newer Chateau sitting side by side - both are set in a park with a children's play area and lovely walks along the river. In June the Chateau hosts the Highland Games and in July festivities to celebrate Bastile Day along with other events throughout the year.

There are lots to see and do in and around Bressuire. The 56m renaissance tower of the church of the Notre Dame rises high over the town and surrounding countryside. The town has a new theatre with plays, musicals and concerts, a new swimming pool complex, other activities include a bowling alley, tennis courts, golf and horse riding.

“Thanks for a lovely holiday again!”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2015

We all enjoyed another relaxing holiday at this lovely house; mainly relaxing around the pool but also bike rides through the countryside and a day out by train to Les Sables d’Olonne. Diana & Graham were great hosts as always; never intrusive but always ready with help and advice if needed.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for writing this great review for us following your third successive year here at La Belle Echappee, brilliant to see you all again and hope to see you again soon.

“Absolutely marvellous”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

We first stayed in this wonderful house in 2013 and so we were all looking forward to returning again this year. It really was just as impressive as it was on our first visit. Diana and Graham keep this large house very well maintained and the attention to detail is a credit to them both. The house is spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds and good quality bedding and towels. We particularly like the French style kitchen which has a wonderful view/vista that seems endless. The pool is magnificent with good quality sunbeds and the outside area is spacious and well planned. The photographs of this house do not do it justice as in reality it is so much grander and bigger. The lay out of the house is particularly good especially when you have a large family group. There is such a feeling of open space both inside and out. Diana and Graham are very good hosts, extremely kind and helpful and never intrusive in any way. Again, our week flew by far too quickly.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for writing this wonderful review for us, it was lovely seeing you all again and catching up with all your news. We hope to welcome you again soon.

“Great holiday home”

We had a really Beautiful Escape at La Belle Echappee. Excellent facilities - beautiful pool, table-tennis, badminton, football, bikes, cricket.... and more. Very rural location which was perfect for us. We took our 4 kids (age 19 - 23) & there was loads of space for us all - we all loved it. Graham and Diana are lovely hosts and make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Very highly recommended. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write this excellent review for us, it was lovely meeting you all and hope to see you again.

“A wonderful large child friendly home with fantastic outside space”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Belle Echappee. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful and have created a home that is ideal for big families or even two families with large , comfortable and flexible space inside and tons to do outside. The children could happily have swum all day in the well heated large salt water pool, had it not been for all the other entertainment in the garden where practically every sport is catered for. The views are also beautiful. The owners live on sight but can be contacted as much or little as guests want and are extremely welcoming and helpful, we look forward to our next visit enormously. Will , Pat and the children

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for submitting such a wonderful review about La Belle Echappee. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday so much and look forward to you visiting again.

“Well equipped house and large garden”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2014

We arrived in the middle of the night to a warm welcome from Diane. Our welcome pack meant we could immediately make hot drinks of tea and coffee and when our toddlers woke up early next morning we had fresh eggs, bread and Graham's homemade jam for breakfast. And then the fun started! Such an enormous garden to play and relax in with all the games, equipment and toys anybody might want. The pool (with easy to use safety cover) was always warm and had wide steps at the shallow end so we could walk in for our tiny baby's first swim. Our 10 days passed all too quickly - popping in to Bressuire for chateau, local market and supermarket shopping and to Parthenay for medieval architecture and family restaurant meal. But most of the time we walked and ran around in the garden, we picked blackberries, fed the chickens, quail and guinea fowl and collected eggs. Cooking was easy in the fully equipped indoor and outdoor kitchens or on the gas or charcoal BBQ. Our toddlers both learned to swim and the adults in our party could relax on the sun loungers or swim serious lengths of the pool. We were lucky to have glorious hot sunshine every day enjoyed by us and all the geckos, butterflies, bees and stick insects we could see in the garden. Diana and Graham were friendly neighbours to us and made sure we knew what was available in the village where we walked up to the square for the boulangerie and pizza restaurant. They supplied lots of information sheets for outings but we were more than happy to enjoy the amenities on offer at La Belle Echappee and went home feeling really relaxed and refreshed.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for writing this wonderful, very detailed review for us which gives future guests a great insight. We are so pleased that you had such a relaxing family holiday and enjoyed all that La Belle Echappee has to offer. It was lovely to meet you all and we hope you will visit us again.

“Everything you could want - excellent”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2014

We had a fantastic week at La Belle Echappee - the house is large and spacious, the pool is fabulous and the garden is huge. With several small children in our party, it met all of our needs. Fully equipped with games, pool equipment, etc, this is a fabulous venue for a large group. Graham and Diana, the owners, were extremely friendly and helpful, and delighted the kids by letting them feed the chickens and quails all week. Overall - highly recommended.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for writing this excellent review for us. We are really pleased that you enjoyed the house, pool and gardens. It was a pleasure meeting you all and we hope you will visit again. The chickens and quails were certainly spoilt by the extra attention and treats that the children loved giving them.

Perfection is the only way to describe La Belle Echappee. It would be impossible to list all the wonderful aspects of the accommodation . The luxurious bedrooms so beautifully decorated, the lounge/dining room breathtaking, the kitchen with every appliance you could wish for. The massive garden is amazing, a barbecue with outside kitchen and a large covered dining area which we used every day. The childrens play area was very popular with the little ones as was the chance to feed the chickens. There were so many games and activities provided for both adults and children but of course the star was the beautiful salt water pool which was in constant use even at night when the area is lit up. There is everything here that a family could wish for. We met up with our son, his wife and our three grandchildren who were visiting from Vancouver and we all had a fabulous holiday. The surrounding area is beautiful with many places to visit within close range, lots of information within the house. Graham and Diana were fantastic hosts, never intrusive but friendly, entertaining and great company. Nothing was too much trouble and they did everything to ensure our stay was perfect. The only downside? The end of our holiday and having to leave which none of us wanted to do. Thank you Graham and Diana.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for taking time to write such a wonderful, glowing review. We are delighted that your holiday with your son and his family, who live in Vancouver, was enjoyed so much. It was our pleasure meeting you all and we look forward to seeing you again.

“Already counting down to next year's return holiday....”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2014

We returned, once again, to spend an extremely pleasant and relaxing holiday at La Belle Echappee. The house and grounds are spacious with plenty to amuse all; although the pool was the main focus of our holiday. As before, Diana & Graham were the perfect 'hosts' - never intrusive but always on hand to help out or offer advice. Would we go back? - we've already booked!

Owner's reply: Thank you once again for taking time to write this great review following your second holiday here at La Belle Echappee. We are delighted that you have now booked again for next year and really look forward to welcoming and seeing you all then.

“A perfect relaxing holiday”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2013

The welcome we received from Graham & Diana was so warm & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The house was very clean & luxuriously furnished. The kitchen was well equipped. The beds were comfortable & the linen perfect. The swimming pool & surrounding area were really clean & well maintained, (plenty for children to do) & the outside eating areas were spacious with ample seating for dining & relaxing. The local restaurants recommended in Bressuire & Airvault were very good (Fa-ngam in Bressuire our favourite), A family day out to Puy du Fou is highly recommened, we had a great time. An overall excellent holiday in a beautiful house.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this brilliant review for us. It's great to know that you were so happy here and enjoyed your holiday, the local restaurants and also your day at Puy du Fou. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

“Wow. What a house. Where to begin?”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2013

La Belle Echappee was magical from start to finish. The house was enormous with lots of room to mix in groups or have some quiet time by yourself. The land extended itself beyond the eye could see and provided plenty of room for the children to run around and play. Most of the holiday was spent poolside soaking in the sizzling sun working on our tans. Personally I found it easy to lose myself in a book whilst the kids entertained themselves in the pool. Diana and Graham were exceptional hosts. We have returned from our holiday and are now experiencing severe holiday blues.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for giving us such a wonderful review and account of what you found so good about your holiday here at La Belle Echappee. It is so satisfying when we know that the facilities we offer are appreciated so much. We really hope that we will see you again - it was a delight to meet you all.
