Whether you're looking for a one night business stopover, a couple of nights to attend a wedding at the Brig O'Doon, or a one or two week self catering holiday break, Doonbank Bothy offers an exclusive, flexible and private accommodation base for you.

Doonbank Bothy is a beautifully presented two storey, one bedroomed detached house. It is very spacious, quiet and peaceful and set within Doonbank Cottage's four and a half acres of secluded private woodland garden.

The bothy sleeps two adults. We also have a free cot for under 2s and (on request) a separate single fold-a-way bed for an under 10 year old. As well as having access to the woodland and river, it also has it's own private and enclosed back garden and seated patio area to relax in.

Situated in the picturesque village of historic Alloway in Ayrshire, a 10 minute walk to the world famous Brig O'Doon, Burns National Heritage Centre, the Brig O' Doon Hotel and Burns Cottage, and on the edge of the main town of Ayr on the west coast of Scotland, the Bothy has glorious views over the idyllic River Doon, which runs for half a mile as the property's eastern boundary, offering excellent opportunities for bird watching and riverside walks after a busy day.

Getting around

To benefit fully from the surrounding area and atractions, you do really need a car. However, we have had a number of guests in the past who have been hikers using the Ayrshire Coastal Path and public transport.

Interaction with guest

Chris and Susan will be delighted to welcome you and provide you with a tour of the property and keys. If we can provide any additional advice or help with your planning, then please shout. As well as providing a welcome pack, we will also have some freshly made scones ready for the oven on your arrival. We do have our own free range chickens along with 2 Ayesbury ducks - and you're welcome to collect your own free eggs for breakfast If you are attending a wedding at the Brig O'Doon, we will also give you a lift to the hotel and then pick you up again at the end of the night, allowing you to toast the bride and groom as Scotland has extremely rigid drinking laws - just ask.

We allow one dog or pet. Dogs should be kept on a lead around the immediate curtliage of the Bothy and around the chickens. Dogs are also not allowed on the beds.

This Bothy has excellent reviews and you will realise how exceptional this accommodation is if you book it. Everything has a ring of quality about it. The hosts are genuinely kind people. If you like animals there are friendly ducks and hens roaming around.

We stayed at Doonbank Bothy whilst visiting family at Christmas. The Bothy has everything we needed and was really comfortable. Chris provides us with a travel cot and high chair for our toddler which was great, and our dog loved exploring the garden. The Bothy was spotless and fresh eggs and milk had thoughtfully been provided for us on arrival. The location was perfect. Near to the Burns Museum but tucked away down a long private driveway so it was very quiet. We will definitely be staying here again next time we visit Ayr. Thanks Chris.

This "bothy" is larger than it appears, and is so very comfortable and loaded with all one(or two) could need for 1 or more nights' stay. Truly lovely riverfront setting, quiet and secluded, yet near owners thatched home-gorgeous! Sweet chickens who lay eggs for your breakfast, a patio for a perfect wine or morning coffee break, and the river at your actual door step for walking or getting into the village area-Burns memorial, restaurant, pubs, etc.. Wish we had more than just one night stay. Owner was so very sincere and welcoming as well. Would definitely recommend this over any common hotel, or accommodation, in the area. Thank you Chris!!

How do damage deposits work?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Chris (the owner) a message.

If Chris (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
