Welcome to the Hôpital Saint François, a historic building located in the centre of the picturesque village Aubeterre sur Dronne, known as one of the prettiest villages of France, on the border of the Dordogne and the Charente. The three apartments sleep 2, 4 and 6 people (possible to put up extra beds), and can also be rented together to suit a small group or three families, up to 12 people. Each apartment has a television with satellite reception and free internet.In the garden there is a lovely shared pool with a wooden terrace all around. There are tables, chairs and parasols for all guests and sunloungers to relax and enjoy the sun. There is a barbecue for each apartment. The authentic building has been restored with the utmost care to keep the original features. The wooden stairs, the floors with old tiles, stone walls and fireplaces give this house its special character.You can reach the Hôpital following the broad stone stairs that lead to the house. At the bottom of this stairs you can stop your car to unload luggage or groceries, after which you can park your car a bit further up the road on a small parking place on a square (free parking). Through the old wooden doors you enter the house, in which each apartement has its own entrance. Next to the Hôpital you will find the atmospheric restaurant La Tapazzeria with its nice terrace, which is well seperated with a wooden palisade to ensure your privacy. Here you can enjoy lovely tapas and delicious pizza's from the original stone oven, without having to go far!

SURROUNDINGSAubeterre sur Dronne is located in the Charente, on the border of the Charente and the Dordogne. This is the most southern department of the region Poitou-Charente and has not yet been discovered by masstourism. Also, the Charente has, next to the Meditarenée, the most hours of sun in France! The pleasent climate en the distance from the UK (possible to drive in one day) make it an attractive holiday destination. There is a lot to do, see and experience for all ages in this region. On this page you will find a summary of some of them.In the apartment you will also find a map with all sorts of touristic information of the area. And, the local tourist office in Aubeterre, just a short walk from the Hôpital, has all sorts of brochures and information. St Emillion (60 km.) needs no explanation. This lovely villige with its impressive square where it all happens, and where you can enjoy wonderful meals and great wines; some of the best in France! Brantome (50 km.) is known as the Venice of the Perigord, and is a pretty village. The river Dronne meanders all around its center. You can rent a canoe or visit the museum and monastery build in the rocks.Cognac (50 km.), situated on the river Charente. A historic city that owes its name to the world famous eau-de-vie and where a visit to one of the distilleries and vineyards is a real must.Perigueux (50 km.) is the capital city of the Dordogne. Originally a city build by the Romans about 100 before Christ, where you will find many museums showing the remains of Roman buildings and artefacts as well as an old historical museum.Bordeaux (80 km), world famous as the center of wine, but also because of its interesting architecture. The westcoast (200 km.) has enormous sandy beaches and elegant touristic beach resorts. The islands Ile de Ré and Oléron are worth paying a visit to discover its proces of growing oysters in the Marais Salants.And last, but not least, you can visit one of the 800 religieus Roman churches that can be found in this area (all on the Camino de Santiago de Compostella). City's and villages Aubeterre sur Dronne belongs to one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. It is build on the edges of excavations in the form of a Amphitheater and has a giant monolithic church and charming narrow winding streets with old houses and pavements. There are many restaurants, Hotel de France, a puppet theatre and a butterfly museum. Down at the bottom of the hill you will find a "beach" where you can swim and rent a canoe & kayak. Chalais (12 km.) is a quiet village, except on Monday; then there is a lively weekly market with all sorts of fresh produce and curiosa.Riberac (15 km.) is a bustling market-city where everybody goes each Friday morning to visit the enormous open-air market. Also, you will find here all the facilities you need; ATM, 4 supermarkets, 24 hours petrol, butchers & bakers. Angouleme (30 km.), city of comics, with a pretty old citycentre and narrow streets with lots of terraces to enjoy!Bergerac (60 km.) mostly famous for its delicious wines, but also, as the French say, for its tabac. Very interesting old city center.
