Location description from manager

The Campania region

For sea lovers, but not of the chaos of the sea in summer, Villa Aquara is an excellent starting point. A few miles away there is Marina del Cantone, then lively and charming seaside resort of Marina Lobra, an ancient fishing village, then Cala Puolo, glamorous and exclusive, then coves and inlets with awkward access, but unique charm, as the Fjord Crapolla, Bagni of Queen Giovanna, La Conca Azzurra and the Bay of Jeranto, fully protected marine area.

The Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area was established by Decree of the Ministry of Environment December 12, 1997. Priority is given to the marine environment, a value that cannot be subordinated to any other interest. Punta Campanella is the beauty of a landscape with an ancient flavor, preserved in time, a site of excellent value, rich in history and archeology, perfectly placed in a context of considerable scientific importance. The Marine Area organizes educational activities of scientific importance.

For trekkers Massa Lubrense is an ideal starting point; there are, in fact, in its wide and wild territory, hundreds of trails that offer breathtaking views and silence, far from the noise of city life. From Sant'Agata you can descend to a small beach called Crapolla, located in the territory of Torca and reachable only by sea or via a long footpath marked by hundreds of steps. According to legend, the apostle Peter landed here in his difficult journey to Rome. A small church is dedicated to him, and it is venerated by the ancient fishing village, and built on the ruins of the temple of Apollo.

For centuries, the Sorrentino Peninsula is a destination for travelers from all around the world for its mild climate, the beautiful sea and the beauty of its coastline. More rarely, however, has been alluded to gastronomic treasures of the region that has always delighted the palates of visitors. Rediscovered these resources, the Sorrentino Peninsula is now positioned as a major step of the recipes. Another good reason, therefore, to stay in the Peninsula. We find renowned restaurants, but also family-run restaurants, both along the coast and in the suburbs of Mons Lactarius, where you can taste typical products and traditional recipes of Sorrento, but also of the whole Neapolitan cuisine.

The origins and successes of the gastronomy and hotel tradition of Sant'agata sui due golfi (the closest town to Villa Aqaura) are back to the early twentieth century thanks to two great connoisseurs of good living and good food: the Neapolitan poet Salvatore Di Giacomo and the English writer George Norman Douglas, who with his “Siren Land” made famous Capri, Sorrento and Sant'Agata worldwide.

Acquara

The little village of Acquara close to Sant' Agata sui Due Golfi (390 m. above sea level) is situated on a ridge above the Bay of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. The Neapolitans love this place, because you can enjoy a wonderful panorama view of the surrounding hills and the sea. Since the mid-19th century, the village is popular with travellers for its healthy climate, beautiful landscape, and the hospitality of its residents.

Sant' Agata sui Due Golfi is situated between the Sorrento Coast and the Amalfi Coast and is a good starting point for trips and hikes into the scenic surroundings. Worth visiting is the Benedictine monastery San Paolo al Deserto where you have a great panorama view of the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno.

Sorrento is only 9 km away and can be reached on foot in about half an hour via several different beautiful trails. In only 20 minutes minutes by car you reach the typical small fishing village of Nerano, where you can try fresh fish dishes and rent boats. There are also beaches and lidos open to the public. The fishing village Massa Lubrense with its small harbour isn't far away either. And it is also easy to take trips to the Amalfi Coast with its towns Positano (14 km) and Amalfi (30 km).
