A magical location, in the heart of the countryside.

My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in this gite. One of four, on the edge of a wood and a short walk through owners' land to a private lake. The gite itself was tastefully furnished, clean, well equipped and renovated to a high standard. Very spacious lounge and kitchen diner with two large bedrooms.A collection of restored farm houses "Les"Rivieres" is set in a beautiful location, with a large pool in the pretty, mature, garden beyond fruit trees: cherry, plum and apple. Completely private, each gite has its own secluded eating and leisure area outside. Only the tree frogs permeate the air on a summer's evening! There are several facilities on site: small gym, table tennis, A unique rustic experience, close by car to a small village and perfectly situated to explore the beauty of the french countryside and the villages and towns of the region .Richard and Nicky were very welcoming, informative and generally helpful. The Rivers-Lidoire
An blissfully idyllic week, relaxing with family at Les Rivieres-Lidoire

Although the weather wasn't the best, we managed to fit in lots of sightseeing and did all that we had wanted to and more. Right from the first day Nicky was on hand to give us useful tips about supermarkets and places to visit/eat as well as lending us her map! Richard was busy going backwards and forwards to the UK to visit his ailing father but somehow still managed to find the time to sit and talk with us around sunset each day and made my dream come true, taking my boys to fish and sitting so patiently with them (Mum and Dad just kept getting their lines tangled up!). We loved the old monastery carved out of the rock-face and the float down river in canoes at Brantome. Spent hours wandering around the market at St. Mathieu and splashed around happily with FREE canoes at the beautiful lakeside beach of St. Estephe (both recommended by Richard). You definitely need to rent a car to take in the sights but don't have to venture too far from the pool to take in the constant backdrop of sunflowers and chateaux. On our last day we rented para-motors and climbed 800 feet over the impressive village of Villebois-Lavalette....having spent the morning before deep underground, exploring caves! … see more
Les Rivieres- Martrieux
Welcoming hosts, peaceful location, happy kids = perfect holiday!

We are a large family with 4 children aged 17,10,8 and 3! Martrieux is one of four gites - set in quiet peaceful countryside. There are plenty of quiet lanes to explore on bikes - great for runners too! Also lovely woods to explore - plenty of walking, lots of wildlife. The fishing lake was a huge hit with my son too! Sharing the outdoor facilities with 3 other gites was excellent as kids made friends and enjoyed playing in the games room and in the pool together. The gite was extremely well appointed, with everything you could need. The WiFi was better than at home! The beds were the most comfortable that we have ever slept on. Nicky and Richard were superb hosts, helping us when we needed a doctor, advising on local markets, wines, places to visit etc We would highly recommend!!!!! … see more
Les Rivieres- Beuronne
An excellent place to explore the real heart of France

We have visited a number of areas of France but this is outstanding. Les Rivieres lies in a small wooded hamlet in the North West corner of the Dordogne, far enough off the tourist track to give you the feeling of being somewhere very special but close enough to visit hotspots such as Brantome, the "Venice of the Dordogne" and the wine growing area of Bergerac. The local wildlife, particularly birds and deer, is outstanding.
