This is a beautiful house which suited us down to the ground. The pool and outside areas were super with stunning views of the surrounding countryside - we especially enjoyed eating out of an evening. Supermarkets were a short drive away and the English TV was useful to keep up-to-date with the world athletic championships!
The hosts - Beverley and Tom - were very hospitable.
We enjoyed an afternoon in Rochefoucauld and would definitely recommend a meal at Chez Steph.
All in all a very comfortable house in a quiet and peaceful location - would recommend to others. …
Jasmine Cottage French Cottage on Charente lake
Fantastic Welcome, Woeful Wi-Fi
The best welcome ever from Anna: kisses on both cheeks, French-style, and a welcome pack I have never seen bettered in many years of renting self-catering properties. The apartment is spacious and beautiful, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful and peaceful. The only problem we had was the wi-fi. We both run our own businesses, and I had explained when I booked that the wi-fi was the essential feature for us. Anna had replied that the wi-fi is available for all guests, which it is - but only *outside* the property. So every morning, instead of sitting on the comfy sofa, I had to sit in our car for an hour or so to deal with my emails. Luckily the weather wasn't great... also the bandwidth was small, such that I couldn't download emails with attachments of any size, and if people from either of the other properties on site were using the internet at the same time, it was almost impossible to do anything online. Apparently there had been no wi-fi at all on site the previous week; if that had been the case when we arrived, we would not have been able to stay. As it was, we had to go out to find cafe wi-fi several times, and in the end we decided to leave a day early, because the weather was about to improve and it would have been too hot to sit in the car and too bright to see the screen outside. So I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone as long as they're not dependent on wi-fi. The hosts are very friendly, helpful, and almost always on site and available (at least, they were while we stayed), though I understand a change of ownership is imminent. Lots of really interesting things to see and do in the local area. I even managed a very pleasant swim in the small pool on the last day. Perfect for a peaceful digital detox. …
Wisteria Cottage, French Cottage on Charente Lake
The most restful holiday we've ever had!
Le Queroy is deep in the Charente countryside, hidden deep in the rural idyll, surrounded by wheeling buzzards and Limoges cattle. Rolling hills hide mystical chateaux and quaint weekend markets (vides grenier). However the best thing was the new friends we made. Our hosts were great company and nothing was too much trouble.
The house is clean and comfortable, spacious and private. When we wanted to socialise, we could, when we needed solitude, it was there. The pool is grand for cooling off in hot summer weather and the large log burner works well to ward off an evening chill, as does the great local produce.
It was everything we had hoped for, and more, and comes highly recommended if you want to charge the batteries. We were there for 5 1/2 weeks and it went in a flash. We will be back. Thank you J & A. …
Oak Tree Cottage, l'Age Bonnaud
Perfect in every way!
We LOVED our week at Oak Tree Cottage. Bev gave us such a warm welcome and was incredibly helpful throughout our trip, offering local tips on restaurants and days out. The house is wonderful - the photos don't do it justice. It is spacious and has everything you could need and want for a week away. Our favourite part was the outside space with a gorgeous pool. Perfect for relaxing in the sunshine! Great that we could bring our dog and the grounds are enclosed so he could run around without supervision while we played in the pool.
We've stayed in lots of holiday homes over the years and this is the best by far. We will be coming back for another family holiday at Oak Tree Cottage! …
