Great gite, lovely position, nice and quiet, very relaxing.
Cathy and Howard were great hosts. Although there were 6 gites on the site we still felt very private. Lovely quiet area, easy distance to beaches and towns such as St Gilles. The observatory at Olonne Sur Mer is definitely worth a visit. It was great to see green woodpeckers and especially hoopoe in the garden. Would certainly stay there again. …
Stone Cottage, Dolphin Gîtes, Vendée
Peaceful and plenty to do
This property offers excellent location ideal for accessing numerous different beaches easily, we found some were better for rock pooling, others for surfing or sand castles and a beach monitored by life guards. As you have to get into the car to drive to the beach, it’s great to have easy access to a variety depending on tides and the weather. It is also ideally suited for accessing inland attractions and supermarkets (the ones on the coast do get very busy with holiday makers). We loved the tranquillity of these gites, some days we spent all day around the pool often having it all to ourselves. It is kept beautiful clean. The close proximity to the gites means stress free if you want to nip back for a drink, book or lunch. The only disadvantage is there is very little shade at the pool. The gite had its own garden with patio furniture and BBQ ideal for alfresco eating or taking it easy out of the mid-day sun.
The gite itself is very comfortable, with plenty of room to eat and relax, I don't particularly like the combination/microwave oven - but with the hob and BBQ, salads and eating out we didn't find this too much of an issue. The dishwasher was a fantastic bonus, as was the washing machine. Sky TV meant we could keep up with the Olympics but otherwise we wouldn't have had it on!
The whole property area is well maintained there were always table tennis bats and balls and the children are allowed to play ball games in the back garden. There is a tennis court in the village which was not locked last year and we could pitch up and play pretty much whenever we wanted. Only once did we find anyone playing on the court.
One disadvantage to this property is that you cannot walk to a local restaurant. You can get to a small spar shop and get a pretty tasty take away Pizza.
Howard and Cathy are very friendly and helpful; they helped us find a particular restaurant via the internet and made the booking for us …
