“Amazing, unique place to stay for those that love the outdoors alongside comforts of a modern home” My extended family of 8 stayed at the Bird House in Dec 2014 for six days. Our group consisted of my wife and I, our 2 children (ages 8 & 11), and our 4 parents. The house is a wonderful, unique experience for those looking for something very different from regular hotels. There is plenty of space, the full amenities of home (including very reliable wifi), and amazing decorations that had my wife (a graphic designer) buzzing with ideas. You truly can see the tops of ships on the canal from the deck and there really are birds everywhere. We didn’t catch sight of any monkeys around the property, but there were plenty along pipeline road (5 minute drive away), and there are agoutis and coatis hanging out in the park across the street. Look at the pictures on the site closely to understand how the house is laid out - the exterior walls on the main floors are giant, slatted, sliding panels with screens to keep the bugs out. This means the house feels almost more outdoors than indoors. Our group loved it, and we never felt like our privacy was impinged upon since there is a fair amount of distance to the neighbors, but if you are not an outdoors lover it may feel strange to you to have all the noises from the world around you in your living space. Obviously, there is also no air conditioning, but numerous fans throughout the house keep it quite pleasant. Chimene, the owner, is the perfect “remote host.” She helped us extensively with planning activities prior to our stay in Gamboa and also gave us advice for things to do in other parts of Panama. She had tremendous patience with me as I pinged her with loads of emails. Later in our trip we ended up staying at her treetop “beach platforms” in Rio Mar as well which was a whole other type of cool experience.

“Jaw dropping beautiful home!” We stayed at Casa Cieba for 6 days and I must say when we first saw the house my mouth dropped open! From the beautiful carved wooden doors to the spectacular lake and volcano views from every room in the house, this place is amazing! You can sit on the porch swing, drinking your morning coffee and listen to all the birds, or sit in the hot tub in the evening and witness some of the best sunsets I've ever seen! We were fortunate enough to see toucans, green parrots, coatis and white faced monkeys along with a host of other birds right from the house. You have to do Sky Trek which is just down the road. I would recommend not only doing the zip lines but also the guided hanging bridges tour. We also did several excursions using Desafio and got a 10% discount for booking multiple tours. These included waterfall rapelling, caving and white water rafting! We didn't get a chance to hike up Cerro Chato volcano as it rained the day we planned on going but this gave us a chance to relax and enjoy the house! Be sure to check out the Eco Zoo right in El Castillo and ask the neighbour alan about the hidden waterfall hike, it's an easy walk but fun and beautiful. We spent 3 hours at Baldi hot springs and could easily have stayed half a day! There were a few minor issues at the house in regards to using the washer and dryer and hot water but I let Jim know and he is fixing this. Jim was a great guy to deal with, very informative and always answers your e-mail inquiries right away! The rooms have comfortable beds and each room has it's own balcony! There's wifi which is handy and a mobile phone to use for local calls. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need, other than a dishwasher lol. The hot tub takes a good hour to heat up so be sure to give yourself time before sunset! Our only regret was that we didn't book more time at Casa Cieba so we could kick back and enjoy the house more!

“Paradise at arenal Springs” From the first contact with Tom and Maria we knew we would be well looked after. Tom's response to our online inquiry was within 24 hours followed up by a phone call to our home in Canada. Maria was also instrumental in helping us get tours booked and arranging ground transportation to pick us up at the west coast and take us to arenal Springs. We continued to use Emily and Balo's shuttle service through the course of our week at arenal Springs. We arrived at arenal Springs later in the day to find that the grounds and the house were even more beautiful that the pictures depicted. The grounds were manicured and clean. There were many kinds of birds and the howler monkeys in the trees made for good entertainment. The pool was kept spotless and included a couple of lounge chairs and a table with benches so we spent a couple of afternoons lounging by the pool. Our group included two couples and we stayed at the Casa Primera house. The house had a good supply of dishes and cooking utensils which make meal prep easy. We were surprised to learn that we could drink the tap water so we didn't need to purchase bottled water. We got groceries in New arenal which was about a 15 minute drive. The bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds and a large bathroom ensuite. The house remained cool in the evenings in spite of the hot weather during the day. The maids came to change out the towels and clean the house every second day. On the front deck of the house was a table and chairs so we ate our breakfast outside most every day. Tom was very generous with his time. He came and chatted with us on a couple of occasions answering all our questions. He took us to look at some real estate and he even put us in contact with Daryl who took us out on a 1/2 day boat cruise on Lake arenal. We will definitely return to arenal Springs on our next trip to Costa Rica.

“Very nice cabin and friendly owner” We stayed 3 nights and the cabin is very nice and the garden also. You have a very nice view about the lake and the volcano arenal. Also the owner Kees Voogd is a very friendly man and he can help you a lot with the things you can do in this area. There are a lot of things to do and a stay of 5 days is also a good thing to see everything and to have a nice experience of Costa Rica.

“Private, Scenic, Perfect getaway in the Rainforest!” The casita has a well-equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed in the loft. We were fortunate that Bret, the kind and friendly owner, was here for part of our month-long stay. He was extremely helpful and saw to it that our needs were met. Marvin, the gardner/caretaker, was delightful and we loved the many conversations that we shared despite the language barrier. Henry, the property manager, was terrific and immediately responsive when we needed him. We enjoyed the abundant fresh fruit and the many trails around the property. The trip into Nuevo arenal on a very bumpy Costan Rican road, was managable in our 4 wheel drive vehicle. Many great restaurants in this lovely town. The lake is beautiful and the location is close to adventures including beaches and the Monteverde Cloud Forest. We loved our vist and hope to return.

“Clean, Comfortable, Quiet, Self Contained Accommodation” We stayed a week here and loved every minute of it. Barbara and Lawrence are very friendly and so very helpful. They helped us a great deal to get settled in with everything that we would need for a fabulous stress free vacation in Costa Rica. “Great vacation home on beautiful property” Our family of six greatly enjoyed our two weeks at this beautiful property. The house is large and modern and four bedrooms. The TV room is far from the living and bed rooms, which is nice since some of the family could watch TV without waking others who were sleeping. The property is amazing--miles of paths to walk on, ranging from paved driveways to hidden jungle trails that we didn't find until several days into our trip. There is lots of wildlife and many nice views. We enjoyed picking fresh fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden (which saved us a lot on groceries). The house is a couple kilometers from the town of Nuevo Arenal, which is very pleasant and has everything you need--groceries, bank, gas, etc. Previous commenters complained about the rough road, but it is actively being repaired and about a quarter of the length was completely graded and re-stoned during our stay. The manager was very helpful in arranging housecleaning, a nanny, Spanish lessons, and cooking--the entire staff was excellent, including the gardener who arranged horseback riding on the property. I highly recommend this property.

“Beautiful home in lovely setting.” This home had all the amenities to make our family comfortable. We loved sitting on the patio in the morning watching hummingbirds and listening to howler monkeys in the distance. The extensive DVD collection was a hit with our kids during some of our down time. The location near the town of Nuevo arenal was nice for short trips to the grocery store and many restaurants.

“Awesome Condo” We loved our Maleku Condo. The condo was exactly as advertised and the view of Lake Arenal is simply spectacular. I could look at the view all day long. I especially love the floor to ceiling windows throughout the condo and the granite/stainless steel kitchen is beautiful. The exotic wood floors are gorgeous as well. The condo was super clean. Note: there is no room cleaning service included. We were windsurfing at Lake Arenal and it was a short drive to the lake and a short drive to the small town of Tilaran where there is a bank, grocery stores and some restaurants.

“Four Days Just Wasn't Enough!” I just wanted you all to know what a great place Encantada Guest House is! My wife and I recently left our home in Newtown Connecticut to visit Costa Rica and we had a wonderful trip. The Hacienda is in an absolutely gorgeous setting, with beautiful views of the nearby volcano, the jungle below, and the mountains above. It is a pleasure just to sit in the yard and soak in nature. And their new future B&B; /main home is coming along very nicely. They had just put the roof on, when we got there. You travel about 10 kilometers on a wide gravel road to reach Hacienda Encantada, so at first we thought it was very remote. And sure enough when you reach the village, there are farms and lots of nature everywhere. But once we settled in, we began to realize that much is available within 5 to 10 minutes of the Guest House, including spectacular zip lines (wow!), great restaurants, hot springs, pool slides, butterfly gardens, hiking trails with Indiana Jones- like suspended bridges over the jungle, an animal park, and the best horseback riding we have ever done. The area is amazing! Marty and Nita are wonderful hosts. Kudos to them for having the spunk to carve out this home in Costa Rica!

“Cristobal says Me Gusta Villa Encantada Mucho!!!” Everything that you can think of is there. The property is exquisite and the amenities are top notch. I could have stayed the entire 8 days on the property without any qualms of leaving. There are plenty of things to do nearby though. Thoroughly enjoyed the slide and pools fed by the natural spring water. The hiking through the property was an adventure every single time I went. From frogs, mushrooms, flowers, and waterfalls you couldn't turn your head and not see something awesome. Highly recommend using Glenn's chef Natalie, she prepared things that she both grew and raised from her farm. Meals were absolutely world class. Glenn was amazing. He made sure everything we needed was taken care of. From getting groceries delivered to making sure we had taxis, Glenn truly cared. This place would be awesome for a romantic getaway for 2, a large family, or a corporate retreat. Definitely plan on going back!

“Memorable Vacation!” Immediately upon my arrival at the Red Sunset, I knew I was going to have a great time. I traveled with my two grown kids and my husband. The house is spectacular. The pictures on the internet do not do it justice. It is majestic yet it has a homey feeling. The service that Patrick, the owner, rendered was impeccable. He took care of us like if we were family. At times, we were a handful and he handled every situation with patience, ease and kindness. I can sincerely say that it is the first vacation that I had nothing to worry about. The property itself is wonderfully decorated in a rustic style. The breakfast cooked by Maria was amazing and Maria was amazing. She always had a smile and treated us like her own. Every morning we knew what we were going to do and what time breakfast would be served. In addition to all of this, Patrick even programmed our GPS so we would not continue to get lost. Elisa, Patrick's wife, was also wonderful in helping Maria with the meals. This is not your average bed and breakfast, it was truly an experience that I hope to experience again. My family and I hope that we can return with our extended family for a holiday vacation. Thank you Patrick, Elisa and Maria for wonderful memories. I recommend this property wholeheartedly to anyone.

“Get away from it all, yet be one with nature” When we arrived we were literally greeted by about a dozen white-faced/capuchin monkeys as they made their way through the property! This was a beautiful and serene home base for our family (3 kids, 12 and under) to explore the Osa peninsula. You feel as though you are living outdoors in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, yet you feel completely safe, secure and comfortable (A/C in bedrooms was key!). Walking distance to the beach, center of Puerto Jimenez, bars, restaurants and a grocery store. We all loved the outdoor living and lounging in the hammock -- the TV/DVD player were no match for the awesomeness of the environment. The kids roamed the safe grounds of la Choza del Manglar looking for monkeys, macaws and all the wildlife. Great communication with very friendly and helpful staff/owners who organized our excursions and gave us great insights about what to explore--all of which was spot on...and beyond. We will miss sipping our coffee on the the rooftop terrace looking. English is spoken. If you are looking for a home base to explore all that the peninsula has to offer and be one with nature...then this is the place for you.
