“Wonderful hosts make for a grand holiday in beautiful Languedoc” We recently enjoyed two weeks in beautifully scenic Causses et Veyran and environs. Jane and Merv have a lovely, quiet setting with ready access to nearby market towns and fantastic countryside. They are knowledgeable about cycling and walking in the area and provided helpful information - we were there to cycle. There are many routes available, including a fabulous ride through hills and valleys with no traffic that was especially recommended by Merv. The village photo was taken on that route.
I was on my own for the first few days before my husband arrived and it was especially nice to have Jane and Merv nearby to assist, if needed. The gite is newly constructed and it is comfortable and well-equipped. In the warmer seasons, guests would be enjoying more time in the beautiful pool and garden. Even though we were there in the winter, when it was too cold for swimming, the weather was mostly cooperative and we were able to bicycle every day!
We also enjoyed two great meals with Jane and Merv - the best meals of the trip! (And nice not to have to drive home afterward - so we could enjoy some local wine.) I think they plan to offer meal options to guest, going forward, and I highly recommend "Chef Jane".
A great little apartment with lovely hosts and a nice pool.
We had a very relaxing albeit boiling hot week at Clos du Magnolia. Jane and Merv are lovely hosts who are available at all times for help or information but are not intrusive on your stay at all. It was exceptionally hot whilst we were there - 38 degrees most days with hot nights and sleeping was difficult without air con though. All rooms have ceiling fans though which helped cool us a bit. I must just add that the temperatures were extreme even for the south of France! The grounds outside include a gravel area with the table and chairs under the magnificent Magnolia tree and a vegetable garden. This area is reserved for those in the gite. The rest of the grounds are shared with the Chambre D'Hote guests including the pool and the loungers. So I would say you have your own area rather than a private area which wasn't a problem for us as we enjoyed watching the comings and goings! The pool was a godsend given the heat and we had it mostly to ourselves but again I can see at busier times with other guests wanting to use it a lot it could get a bit busy.
The location of the apartment was ideal for the area - just a short drive to Beziers and the Med coast but you had the peace and tranquility of the hills and villages inland. It is in the middle of the village adjacent the main road through so you will get some traffic noise during the day but in the evenings and nights it was very quiet. Merv is a cyclist and can give you no end of advice on routes in the nearby area. If that's your thing then this area is a must - even though I had to get up at 7am to beat the heat - the routes in the local area are definitively cycling nirvana - no traffic and stunning views!
All in all we had a great week - it was just a shame it was too hot to do much exploring. Jane is a great cook by the way and if you fancy a night off the cooking duties I can highly recommend her! …
