Charming house in a lovely small French village

The house is a terraced refurbished 3 story building which has had a lot of care and attention put into it by Rolland and Andrea. Plenty of storage space, well equipped kitchen and lovely area outside to relax and listen to the swallows overhead. Situated right in the middle of the village with an easy stroll in the morning to the boulangerie and local spar shop. Local restaurant La Table Du Pareur is a must, for some excellent French cuisine, sit outside in the company of the owners 2 friendly cats. Ideal area for the early morning 5k walk, country roads very quite, just the odd farmer tending to his vines. Day trips to the castle in Carcassonne, Olanzac for the market on Tuesday, Minerve...lovely little twisty town in the hills, with a big bridge over the gorge.....try the chocolate cafe for great bruschetta and nice chocky bits with your coffee...very friendly owner....also nice arty shops in the town. And of course the best bit is that you are right in the middle of one of the best wine areas of France.....stick to buying bottles with the Minervois label and you won't go wrong, some lovely 13/14% reds...all under 10 euro. Domaine de Cantalauze
An impressive place for a large group of friends/family

A total of nineteen of us (aged between 20-55) enjoyed an amazing two week holiday at Domaine De Cantalauze. Thomas (the owner) was always quick at responding to queries and made us very welcome on our arrival even though it was way after midnight. While we were there Thomas would check everything was going well but also left us to our own privacy. We hired the two houses, which were very clean (linen and towels changed after a week), spacious and the beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of room for personal space, if needed. Both kitchens had everything you needed to cater for a large group. WiFi available in the main rooms but not everywhere due to the very solid walls of the beautifully restored houses. The large pool and surrounding area had plenty of beds and trees for shade from the sun. The pièce de résistance was the massive pool house, where we spent many a night eating, drinking and playing games. It especially came in handy when we had a major storm but could all still sit together and watch the amazing lightning. It comprised of an indoor BBQ, sink, fridge freezer and a toilet. Also a table tennis table added to the entertainment. One evening Thomas invited all of us to tour his vineyards, the barn where he actually makes the wine and finally the tasting room to sample his delicious wine. A fabulous and very informative evening. We walked down to Trèbes through the vineyards and along the canal (-30 mins) to enjoy Tapas and the few restaurants by the canal. Carcassonne is a 20 minute drive away or a 45 minute scenic cycle down the canal (cycle hire available in Trèbes) and we ate there a few times too and visited the magnificent twin walled old Cité Médiévale. There are plenty of supermarkets within a 4 mile radius We all now have lots of happy memories of our holiday at Cantalauze, fun by the pool, cycling down the canal, visiting Lac de la Cavayère for our own version of the TV game Wipeout, to star gazing by the pool in the evening; oh and lots of good wine! Carcassonne Penthouse in the heart of Bastide
Amazing house!

We stayed here for 3 nights, not long enough! the apartment was really nice. We where 3 adults and 3 children, and there was plenty of room. There was excellent cross ventilation and it was right in the center of town. Carcassonne is also very interesting as it is in the center of Cathar Country. Lots to do and see. … see more

Charming accommodation in a great location

This is a lovely property- it is well located for accessing the main sites and exploring the local area, with local shops, bars & resturants on the doorstep. The owner, Jason, was really helpful before our arrival providing information and answering questions I had, putting me at ease regarding my first trip abroad with a child. He also dropped me back at the airport (including an additional trip due to me being a little forgetful), which was above and beyond. The property itself is clean and provides everything you need for a break including a fully equipped kitchen which we made the most of during our stay. Residence Saint-Brès
Fabulous stay

We were greeted by the owners Patrice and Catherine who showed us comprehensively around the property before leaving us to settle in. This is a superb property, built in 1875 it exudes French charm. The village of Trausse is quaint and quiet, there is ample internal garage parking for 4/5 cars. There is a tennis court and table tennis available on the plot next door. The bedrooms are all a good size and en suite, with extra shower facilities downstairs and by the pool. The pool itself is large and cleaned regularly, the outdoor eating options are also great as is the outdoor kitchen. Beautifully maintained vineyards populate the area and if you are a keen cyclist (as one of our group was) the Pic de Nore is within distance. The beaches of the Med are 50-60 minutes away and the UNESCO site of Carcassonne is wonderful and only 30 minutes away. We would also recommend a trip to Minerve, the approach road is along a stunning gorge and the town has great little restaurants and many great views. Head down to the river bed below the town and explore the cave that runs beneath..... We can't leave out the Canal du midi which runs through the area, offering boating adventures, cycling and walks. Supermarkets are within 5-10 mins by car (larger shops in Carcassonne) but there are local bakers and grocery shops in surrounding villages. We spent two fantastic weeks here as four families and had more than enough space - there is still much we didn't do and we would love to make a return visit to explore further. … see more
