Perfect place as a base to travel around this beautiful area.
We had a lovely time in Cahors. Most days were spent visiting places along the river. We all enjoyed our time in this area and would recommend visiting this area to anyone. …
One of my two favourite places to holiday
My wife and I have holidayed in the villa 'Eire' in St. Medard approximately 6-7 times in the past 12 years or so - which, in itself, says a lot about how much we like it. We have mostly stayed in the upper of the two apartments because it is a little more private and has a balcony (with adjustable awning) around two sides of the building which provides beautiful views of the surrounding heavily wooded countryside. I have spent countless enjoyable hours on that balcony having long leisurely meals with a glass of chilled local white at my elbow, reading (ditto chilled local white) or reclining at night under the incredibly starry sky watching for shooting stars (ditto chilled local white).
St. Medard is a tiny village with neither a shop nor a bar so if you are looking for a vacation full of the high life it is probably not the place for you. If, on the other hand, you ache for an interlude of peace and quiet away from the madding crowd you could hardly do better. Although 'Eire' is close to other houses in the village the neighbours are anything but intrusive. When it is very warm the swimming pool provides cooling and gentle exercise. If you want to push your body a little more the local tourist organisation has information on a range of interesting local walks varying from the gentle to the (occasionally very) challenging. If you need to reconnect with the outside world the nearby village of Catus and town of Prayssac both have shops, restaurants, bars and very lively weekly markets. St. Medard is also well-placed for trips to a wide variety of beautiful and interesting tourist sites. There are also many first-class restaurants within easy driving distance and the Michelin-starred (but pretty expensive) 'Le Gindreau' is only five minutes walk from the front door of 'Eire' itself - a major advantage if you plan to carry out extensive comparative research on the local wines.
The facilities in the apartment are not, perhaps, what one would describe as luxury but will be more than adequate for all but the very fussy. We have really loved our time in St. Medard over the years. We are looking forward to being there again next summer, and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone seeking a beautiful tranquil retreat from the pressures of the everyday world. …
La Provençal - 2 bed rental with shared pool DISC 25% off 2nd week of 2wk bkg
A really nice memory
A stay that was great from the beginning to the end. The host, Virginia, and her daughter made everything so that we'd be comfortable. The house itself is very nice : comfortable, well furnished, clean. It is possible to eat outside in the shade, enjoying the nice view. You can also enjoy sunsets next to the pool, that's very well-kept. The fact that there is another house rented just next door wasn't too much of a problem since both houses are well separated. The location is nice as well, next door to Cahors and the Lot. …
An idyllic place to stay.
This is a stunning house in an amazing setting. The house has been beautifully renovated with great style and flair. All the bedrooms are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are amazing! There is a large and well equipped kitchen and the dining room down in the cellar, with an open fireplace, is a wonderfully atmospheric place to dine. It is very well equipped with everything one needs for a holiday.
The grounds are extensive and beautifully kept. There are plenty of places to sit and relax and the swimming pool is a real bonus.
There are some very good restaurants nearby and many interesting places to visit. …
Les Lavandes - 2 bed cottage with shared pool in hills near Cahors
Good location for adults or children
Located in the hills about seven miles north-east of Cahors on the edge of the village of Constans. Quiet and tranquil with expansive views to the east and west. Easy access to Cahors (about 15 minutes), the A20 motorway and main routes.
Property is restored farm building with small sun lounge, compact but well equipped kitchen leading to good sized dining room lounge containing large wood burner, exposed beams and uprights. Room is a little dark due to thick walls and small windows, although helps to maintain temperature balance. The large garden is shared with the other gite with large grassy area, and shaded children play area at one end with trampoline, swings, slide, sand-pit etc, and pool/lounger area at the other. There is a shaded out-door eating area with BBQ, secluded from the other gite by shrubs and bushes, also seats and tables to use depending on time of day.
We visited with our adult daughter and having stayed in Cahors for the last two years, found this to be an ideal location for exploring the area (including shopping in Montabaun. and Toulouse). There is very good walking nearby (although rugged). We specifically chose the property because it is one of the smaller ones with a pool, and really enjoyed this aspect, often returning late afternoon to spend a couple of hours in the pool/lounger area.
The internet is not as fast as high-speed broad band but was fine for emails and internet searches (weather train-times etc). An excellent location for adults or family with children who want to spend a mix of time visiting the area and staying on site. …
