Houses in Bauge and Apartments – Holiday Lettings - Holiday Rentals Bauge
My wife and I stayed at this lovely Mill house for six nights in July 2018.
Le Moulin at Montpollin is an absolute delight with stacks of character, charm and the ideal peaceful retreat. Inside the downstairs drawing room is much larger than we imagined from the photos online and, when you walk in, it feels like a family home. With comfortable sofas, fireplace, tables for playing games, traditional French furniture, pictures and ornaments including a surprising number of ducks (we discovered Helene loves ducks!), it was also the perfect place to escape the afternoon heat for a siesta. We also loved the kitchen which had everything we needed for cooking and we could have happily fed a huge family if needed with the generous amounts of crockery and cooking equipment. The downstairs bed was fine (although we would have preferred a larger bed because I am pretty tall). No matter. The little upstairs bathroom was a duck delight with lots of little blue duck tiles on the walls.
But the property really comes into its own when you are sitting outside next to the mill pond. We ate outside under a parasol, read books and I drew some pastels and acrylics (not very good art from me). We also took our binoculars and had the best time watching the many ducks, moorhens and frogs. Plus a beautiful kingfisher and we also spotted a large coypu with long whiskers that was building a nest – pretty cute – although in France these are treated as vermin! We followed the progress of the ducks and their flotillas of ducklings with great interest every hour/day.
The pool is in the owner’s garden but it is only a 2 minute drive away. This really was not a problem for us. It’s a beautiful pool in a stunning setting with the owner’s chateau as the backdrop.
On the rare occasions we managed to tear ourselves away we explored the pretty town of Baugé (good wifi in the tourist office) and also found a fabulous little restaurant in the village of Fourgeré (La Petite Folie Gourmande). The lambs’ kidneys in mustard were superb…
However, the best thing about the Moulin at Montpollin is the owner – Helene and her family, so welcoming and so kind. When we arrived late and exhausted on a Sunday (no supermarkets open), she gave us wine, milk and a collection of bread and other essentials for us to make our own light supper. Thank you Helene for all your hospitality and providing us with the perfect place to unwind! We will aim to return and see you again. …

Excellent gite in lovely setting, well equipped and comfortable
Spent a week here in a beautiful gite, very well equipped they had thought of everything. Lovely garden with swimming pool and outside covered area including barbeque.
Great weather so used the pool and enjoyed relaxing in the peaceful countryside. Bikes available.
Margaret and Roger were on hand to advise on trips out, very helpful and friendly but not intrusive. Took us on a wine tasting, great fun!
All in all a great holiday in a very good property in a great area of France. …
What an absolutely outstanding house which has everything you could possibly need for your holiday. The setting is superb, the view over the meadow and the lake is just breathtaking. Nicely positioned to walk into the village for the bakery, supermarket and bar with restaurant. Fantastic places to visit in the locality. We went to Samaur and visited the trolodyte caves, La Fleche for an authentic French market and Le Lude to the chateau. Long evenings spent outside on the sun deck sampling the local wine and just enjoying the tranquillity of La Butte whilst the men folk caught fish after fish in the lake. We could not find fault with our holiday and have already re booked!!!!! …
