The Austrian Alps region
A wonderful location for winter ski holidays, with the snow sure 360 days a year Kitzsteinhorn Glacier in Kaprun only 20 minutes away and many other great resorts locally. In the summer it is a great family holiday area with tons to do, or for the adreneline junkie, there are sports such as paragliding, white water rafting and canyoning. The locals are very friendly and prices are very competitive against other European mountain resorts. The airports of Innsbruck (1 and half hours) and Salzburg (1 hour 15 mins) serve the area and Vienna is about 3 hours away by train or car. An overnight trip to Venice using Chalet Anna as your base is possible as the Italian border is only 1 hour away and trains run to Venice in 3 hours. Croatia is only 5 hours by car, so an overnight to the beach is also possible.
If you need culture, visit Salzburg, for wow factor go to the ice caves at Eisriesenwelt in Werfen, for sports go walking, skiing, riding, wind surfing on Zeller lake, for relaxation go to the Tauern Spa Kaprun, for shopping and nightlife, go to Munich and for sparkles, visit the Swaroski crystal world in Wattens near Innsbruck.
Zell Am See
Zell am See is an historic town with a weekly farmers market in summer and regular events for ski tourists in winter. It lies on the Zeller lake which freezes enough in winter to walk across and buy a mulled wine from a stall in the middle! In the period of Advent, there is a winter Christmas market which is great for buying last minute Christmas gifts. The town is compact with a great atmosphere. Spoil yourself and have tea and cake on the terrace of the Grand Hotel, go ice skating or swimming in the leisure centre, take a trip on the Porsche boat on the lake or sunbathe on the lakeside beaches.
Having lived here since 2006 and having trained as a ski instructor, I know the slopes well and will be able to help you get the most from your ski holiday here by suggesting the best places to go. Local knowledge and being able to speak the language counts for alot when you are thinking about who to book your holiday with and this puts me in a good position to help you get the most from your holiday here summer or winter.
